    Tunnels, like the mountain isn't there. I've been back and forth on I-80 any number of times and had no idea the canyon was even there. Thanks for stopping as you crossed Nevada.

    As a former trucker, that is a long boring drive from border to border. As a railfan, I had always wondered about that river and those rails, and wishing I was fishing! But you successfully answered my questions and offered awesome aerial views of this sometimes hidden gem.
    That canyon was great for train horns, but my favorites are still in the heavily forested areas of the PNW!🌲🌲😁👍🌲🌲
    Thanks Dan! Blessings 2U!

      Nice glad you could finally get a look then! One of the best pieces of railroad in the State of Nevada in my opinion. I actually love desert canyons like this most of all but currently taking advantage of the Fall foliage near my home in Western Oregon on UP's Cascade Line while I can so that will be something I post down the road. Thanks so much Steve!

    Thank you for another wonderful video, Dan! I enjoyed watching the Union Pacific trains winding their way through the beauty of Palisade Canyon in Nevada. Union Pacific runs some long trains through this trackage. Your shot of the manifest train coming out of Tunnel 40 at 20:41 was magnificent! You were in the right place at the right time to capture that moment for us.

    Thank you for the narration, length, direction of travel, number of power units and what the loads were. Now I must look up what a manifest train is. Looks like it is more than grain. Much appreciated. --- Manifest - Train made up of mixed rail cars (box cars, tank cars, piggyback cars, etc.). Bulk - Train made up of a single "bulk" commodity (other than coal) and car type. Bulk commodities include grain, soda ash and ore. Yes, what I thought.

    I always found areas like this to be interesting. How people moved to places like this to make a life for themselves and their families. Glad you stopped by and was able to film the area. Did you for interest sake, see where the Eureka & Palisade Railroad met up with the Southern Pacific. The old town site area and etc. I think this could be of interest for anyone that enjoys narrow gauge railroading.

Around the 19 mim mark the grain train's DPU passes over the site and it's eliminated river crossings. They even altered the river course! Note the old abudtment. Thanks, Dan!

    I lived in Elko NV for 14 years and in all that time I NEVER saw a eastbound on the old SP through Palisade canyon. It's possible things have changed since I left (2002) but I think that local you caught should be filed with your collection of hens teeth.
    The SD40-2s on the UP locals have been the same as long as I was there - Back before the merger SP would usually have a couple GPs on their local, but from time to time I'd see an SD-9.
    I remember paddling my canoe around the lake/flooded mine pit at Barth - your west end of the canyon spot. And catching crawdads in the river. ;)

    Another awesome video. That Mavic 3 Pro is looking good. I live in Southern Nevada and I had never heard of this place, but now I'm thinking of visiting the location in the future. Would you say that you need a truck if you visit the area? I ask because it sure looks like everything is gravel road by where you shot the video of the trains. Thanks for your time and I know that it costs money and you aren't that close, but are you planning on visiting Cajon Pass or Tehachapi anytime soon?

    • @TheRailfanDan

      Hey thanks a lot! I am pretty proud of this one. No pretty much everywhere I went in this video can be accessed by anyone in a normal sedan. I really do want to get back to Tehachapi and Cajon but I don't know when that will be. I think I will first be making my own maiden voyage to the Southern Transcon in Arizona before I head back there.

    I commented before, but now I'm out here. It seems like the tracks aren't the close together from Elko to Winnemucca. You ever catch any trains at Arnold Loop or over the Great Salt Lake? Is it fair to say that the tracks are close to another from Wells to Winnemucca? Do the two subs run trains in one direction? Sorry all of the questions, but not much information seems to be out there for this area. I'm looking forward to seeing Palisade Canyon on Saturday though.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  5 місяців тому +1

      Yeah they spend a little time together but are far apart for quite a bit of it. Have been out to Arnold but not caught a train. No on the Salt Lake. Tracks are close from Wells to Elko I would say but yes parallel each other at a distance all the way to Winnemucca where they really split apart. Yes for the most part it is directional running between the two lines.

    a click on the tumbs up is too little to show how I liked this video. I skipped the ground shots, they now seemed so boring with those amazing shots from the air. Is the "tracks crossing over each other" a location to shoot? Would love to see those lines cross each other from the sky.

    • @richardreid6377
      @richardreid6377 Рік тому

      The crossover is reachable if you have a vehicle with good ground clearance; at least in dry conditions. As I remember it wasn't a practical spot to shoot from the ground, but a drone would be a different story. Easier to reach from the Palisade end.

    • @TheRailfanDan
      @TheRailfanDan  Рік тому

      Thanks so much for that! I only like to add the ground shots so folks get a little bit of content with audio of the trains since it is a big part of the enjoyment for many including myself. But I definitely understand what you mean about it not being as exciting! Richard is correct as well. I would have liked to have tried to get into that location but I didn't have enough time planned here to do that this go around.
