This is Down Under humor at it's finest -- Dame Edna , i salute you , and i was fortunate to see you live on stage, i will never forget , one of the best nights i have had going to the theatre . I always appreciate a good Wit , when i first saw Dame Edna in the late 80's i was hooked and became a loyal fan ..... One of her "Possums" !!!
@@larsedik Yes. They have to realise that once they invite Dame Edna on as guest, they are relinquishing their entire show over to her. She does not need any help, she takes over completely. We've seen this on many occasions, The View, Parkinson, etc etc.
So awkward that the American hosts (like most over there, except in Northern California where techie Brits have introduced them to our crude but hilarious humor) do not realise they have been had. Sausage. Pineapple ring. Oil. Priceless! Love you Dame Edna! xx
These news casters don’t seem to understand that Dame Edna is not the guest of the show, when she shows up it’s now her show. Interrupting her with comments slows the pace of her delivery which throws off the performance.
She’s a performer, not an interviewee. Let her do her thing, don’t try to be part of the routine. It’s akin to heckling a stand up comic to interrupt her.
Strewth mate - too right you are! Aussie humour, highly peppered by our unique slang, can only be appreciated by OZ’s First Fleet Royalty and their equally bawdy offspring who have made cherished icons like Dame Edna our National Treasure! Goodonya Barry - you are sorely missed! RIP!
Comedically this guy was up there with the best there's ever been. The younger generations are only just discovering Dame Edna and also realizing how funny he is.
There is no way I could have gotten through that! I would have been hysterically laughing so hard that I would've had to leave the stage. Thanks for posting this! By the way, I am from the States and I have the humor to love this!
TV hosts need to be schooled on how to deal with the Dame. Basically they need to be told to KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE and let Dame Edna do her thing. No one is interested in what the hosts have to say. They're only interested in Dame Edna.
A UK audience would have laughed so much more!! The Americans don't really get her humor like we do but I still think she's fabulous with a capital "F".
WTF, do you expect the audience to do??? They were f*cking laughing. You Brits always have your heads up your asses. I think all that bad dental hygiene has done something to your brains.
@@artsed08 I see, instead of calling it like it really is, you have to use the race card on this one too, I'm going to tell you right now, if you decide to categorize a society, I'm going to hand it right back to you. Even though you didn't write the comment, you support it.
That was Spencer Christian the old weatherman from Good Morning America from the 1990's.. Saw Dame Edna at the Post St Theater when I was living in San Francisco and she was hilarious
Commenters taking potshots at the bewildered “Yanks” haven’t watched enough of these old clips. Witless TV hosts are a global affliction. (Though that yammering Spencer surely takes the prize.)
You're not wrong. This clown was a weatherman at GMA when they did a segment on the set of "Star Trek: The Next Generation" & Patrick Stewart stormed off when Spencer came out making lame Klingon jokes during the weather segment- WEARING HIS COSTUME/UNIFORM! Stewart & Paramount execs had a huge fight afterwards. I wonder if Barry Humphries or his reps had any words after this segment, because Edna was on a roll & Spencer wouldn't shut up & Lizzie was absolutely clueless about what this really was. Despite those f'idiots, Edna gave a masterclass comedy performance. At least the studio audience was on-board & having fits of laughter.
I thought that Edna’s people probably coached tv hosts on how it works and to give Edna her space for her routine since most of them do that. These people either didn’t read the memo or are compulsive talkers.
You must be sure to purchase the pineapples with the hole already drilled in them. Also, i don't think you're supposed to actually make this mound of crap 😂
Great for edna- but really: a host really should do their homework.... There is one thing, being surprised in an unexpected situation - but this is just horrendously bad 'journalsim'
of course dame edna came first, she has been doing her comedy routine since the 1950s, she used to have her bridesmaid on stage with her...madge..and gave the poor old dear a hard time which was very funny. mrs doubtfire was in the 80s
This dish reminds me of my partners mothers dish...I called it penis surprise...bannanas propped up on a plate withn2 red cherries at the base and wait...a dab of mayo on the tip... She claimed she saw it in a betty crocker cookbook...😆😆😆🤣🤣
@honeythistle I think it would be hard to ruin Dame Edna's act, but I see your point. The fact that they are so out of touch gives her more room to move.
Female host really was not into this insanely funny skit. No sense a huma. The guy was cool and coulda shoulda done the bit without his frigid sidekick.
The hosts are awful! I don’t want to hear them interrupt Dame Edna. If I want their opinion I’ll beat t out of them. I’m only here because of Dame Edna, and I now know I never want to watch whatever this show is.
The American hosts were super cringe 😬 Spencer was constantly interrupting while Lizzie just couldn't get her head around Barry's style of satire, camp and double entendres.

These hosts were completely out of their league here. Dame Edna is such a legend.
And the male host (whatever his name was - I've forgotten already) was particularly annoying the way he tried to talk over Dame Edna.

Never interrupt Dame Edna! Rarely you have something to add.
I know! There's no competing with her, so just let her roll. No morning show host is going to come close as a sparring partner.
This was the funniest thing that I have seen in YEARS!!!
These news casters don’t seem to understand that Dame Edna is not the guest of the show, when she shows up it’s now her show. Interrupting her with comments slows the pace of her delivery which throws off the performance.
Dame Edna at her finest, pulling the wool right over the eyes of the hosts.
Pathetic hosts don’t know they’re dealing with an international treasure
She’s a performer, not an interviewee. Let her do her thing, don’t try to be part of the routine. It’s akin to heckling a stand up comic to interrupt her.
@@tjwash2 exactly right
I'm crying from laughing so hard. Dame Edna is a comedic genius!
Bloody hilarious. As an Aussie watching the Yanks' response to Barry is priceless.
Ditto mate😆

Edna always said talk shows where a monologue interrupted by strangers. Wonderful.

That was Spencer Christian the old weatherman from Good Morning America from the 1990's.. Saw Dame Edna at the Post St Theater when I was living in San Francisco and she was hilarious
I can just see the look on my family's faces if I were to serve that dish to them on christmas morning. lmao. you go girl Dame Edns Rules!!!!!
Hilarious. We do get it. Loved Dame Edna for years
I’m Australian and pineapple and sausage surprise is a surprise to me.
I love how Spencer got right into the spirit of it all. It was a laugh and was what it was meant to be.
RIP to a legend
That was hilarious!!
"As you know, the little bit on the end is what counts :) " goddamn, you can tell Barry is trying his best not to crack up too
Dame Edna is the best and the host should allow her free rein to carry the moment.
still howling at this
We Yanks love Dame Edna- I think this show wasn't the right fit for her. Daytime shows aren't geared toward her special talents :)
I love Dame Edna. I saw her show at the Post Street theater on the day after Christmas.
Boxing Day?
They don't have Boxing Day in the USA... another thing I didn't know till I lived there.

Dame Edna, my hero.
this makes me so happy
Dead set Aussie legend! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺👍
She is BRILLIANT.
the presenters are the phoniest people ever.. dame edna is a genius..
I watched her show when it was on yrs. ago she's the best
that guy talked way too much >=/
Lizzie either didn't understand the humour, or was too stuffy to succumb to it. Edna had her work cut out with those two.............
Yes, I wish they would have shut up and allowed the brilliance of Dame Edna to shine.
I think Lizzie is a typical TV Airhead. The bloke with her just loves the sound of his own voice even though he has nothing to say.
I think they had no idea. But why?
I thought that Edna’s people probably coached tv hosts on how it works and to give Edna her space for her routine since most of them do that. These people either didn’t read the memo or are compulsive talkers.
Neither of those clockwork airheads had a darn clue. Without autocue and the director barking in their ears they would be even worse
Rings on the gloves 🧤!
Like Auntie Mame
this audience is having the best time!!! LOL hahaha
That would have been much funnier if the presenters had stopped yapping.
Vale Barry Humphries.
Onya Bazz!
Oprah's diet dish! LMFAO!
Genius. Thats all you can say.
everyone gets it...funny as 😂
Wise are they who shut their mouths and let the Dame speak.
🔹️ I don't like Pineapple ( too sweet) but Barry Humphries cracked me up 🤣❗🔹️
You must be sure to purchase the pineapples with the hole already drilled in them. Also, i don't think you're supposed to actually make this mound of crap 😂
😂
The host's need to shut up and let Dame Edna do her thing! They are out of the depth with the Comic Genius that is Dame Edna!
This was epic.❤️❤️❤️🌈
@RandomX856
Heavens dear, Edna dates back to 1956 - some decades before Mrs Doubtfire!
bahaha, the yanks just don't get it, they are taking it so seriously, oh dear. lol
Gees that guy needs to shut up and let Dame Edna do her thing
I should have known the moment I heard the word “sausage”!
I love being addressed as "possum"
They just needed to step aside and let Dame Edna do her thing...
She`s great hilarious lol
Luv her she's so funny
Brilliant
The hosts talk over each other and the Dame all the time. It's annoying.
There was no one like her
I never knew there was so much inuendo when it came to cooking.
Look up "Todd's Tips LIfe Support" for more cooking naughtiness.
A little bit on the end that counts...lol
worst hosts ever.
What a lousy director. Even when TOLD to he didn't give a close up!
A pineapple and sausage surprise..............priceless.
From which year is this? Who knows?
There's nothing 'ordinary' about Dame Edna Everage! Much of his quickfire brand of humour seems to go over the heads of his hosts...
Ha ha ha Americans take themselves so seriously, its so funy to watch this, Dame Edna just takes the piss, great!
The hosts were trying their best not to burst laughing
Who came first... Dame Edna or Mrs. Doubtfire? They are the same character...with a different look
Dame Edna been around for over 40 years!
why is there no close-up???
love you
O
Dame Edna is naughty.lol
Dame fighting for freedom of speech on this one lol
Great for edna- but really: a host really should do their homework....

*90's
My mother's cousin actually helped shape the Dame in the beginning. He acted in stage shows with Barry in the fifties.
This dish reminds me of my partners mothers dish...I called it penis surprise...bannanas propped up on a plate withn2 red cherries at the base and wait...a dab of mayo on the tip... She claimed she saw it in a betty crocker cookbook...😆😆😆🤣🤣
Wrong show for her. She's too funny for them. 😅🤣😅🤣😅🤣
To be fair, Dame Edna has a very flamboyant personality, it tends to dumb down the personalities of those around her.
Those two were in way over their heads.
The lady host is so uncomfy!
She is 😂😂😂
good heavens ! I would have three days diarrhoe if I would eat this
The female host being initially quietly appalled with the sausage demo then starting to find it funny & smiling made this.
"Pineapple and sausage surprise". We never sausage a meal.
Those hosts are robots. What dullards.
@honeythistle I think it would be hard to ruin Dame Edna's act, but I see your point. The fact that they are so out of touch gives her more room to move.
Naughty Dame.
5:18 I sense there is a sexual reference here but I don't get it - does anyone know please ?
Female host really was not into this insanely funny skit. No sense a huma. The guy was cool and coulda shoulda done the bit without his frigid sidekick.
Nervous laughter at 0:52 over Kwanzaa.. He claims it was over Hanukkah. NOT.
That little woman was no fun.

So much fear, so little time
Shut up hosts...but that's already been said.
Prudish American network wouldn’t show a closeup
The American hosts were super cringe 😬 Spencer was constantly interrupting while Lizzie just couldn't get her head around Barry's style of satire, camp and double entendres.
Don’t provoke her you fools
dee was too quick for those hosts
Oh, let's let's be fare Edna isn't exactly hysterically funny here.
The 'sausage surprise' has already appeared on another show.
