Keep in mind this was like 2-3 weeks before actual Christmas so it would be like getting presents twice 😂 Ofcourse the ICA said 10$ limit on gifts please (because kids would always open in front of each other) but parents usually didn't listen and spent more to one up the other parents ahahaha
For the holidays, my dad's company used to hold two separate parties (one for the younger kids and one for the older kids). The younger kids would have a party at this playpark in Vaughan called NeverNeverLand, while the older kids would have their party at this bowling alley (which was pretty cool). With regards to presents, the parents would buy them for us, wrap and label them, then give it to the company a few weeks before the party. The company would then distribute those gifts to the kids at the party. Overall, my immigrant holiday party experience was actually pretty good, until I became 12 (the max. age for the kids at Xmas parties). After that, I didnt get much presents.
I told my parents that an important part of celebrating Christmas is having Christmas tree inside the house with lots of decoration etc. Well i got roasted by my mom for an hour saying aint nobody wanna bring a nasty ass tree in the house.
One Christmas morning I heard these bells kind of noise thing ya feel and 4 year old me thought it was Santa woot woot so I ran down the stairs to find my mom doing a Pooja with the bell thingy that's when I remembered I was a Bhramin :(
