  • Walking blind on a slackline is a great training to improve the balance skills - specially also for highlining and waterlining.

    I really like walking blind because it feels like a very different experience. I think that eyes work very quickly compared to pressure on feet and my inner ear. The slow senses initially caused a bit of disorientation and I tended to over-correct my position. I needed to relearn some of how I balance on a line.

    Nice explanation Sam. Thank you so much. I'll start trying this soon, mainly at midlines. In the same sence, could you me recommend some materials teaching about equalization and anchoring of highlines?

    It's tough to just stand on one foot on a soft pad/mattress (something that makes the ankle less effective) with eyes closed. Like its easy at first but if you set a timer for a few minutes, it takes some practice. Definitely trains the less dominant senses

    Hi Sam, great video and good explanation. thank you.
    can you please make a video about concentration and the "flow" on a line and how to train this mental strength on and off the line? I heard it plays a big role when you want to walk really long lines. ❤slacklife❤

      Hey Paul, alright, that's a challenging one! I'm not sure I'm the right Person for that but I'll think about it. If I do something in this direction then for sure not in the next couple of weeks, sorry! But thanks for the input!! :-)

    Really good content. It's like looking Sheldom's fun with flags, the way of explaining, jajaja, but in good way, ok, I do highline and I like a lot this vid.

    Hi Sam
    Great video as I have been training myself to walk blind for the past few weeks.
    I feel like I need a physical blindfold/facemask and start from the beginning (chongo, stand, walk etc). When I just close my eyes, I feel that I give up too quickly and open my eyes. I don't fight or really get that proprioception and inner ear balance. But because I use a physical blindfold, I'm doing it on short but saggy lines. I fear to walk/stand on longer lines blind because of the awkward falls.
    Would you recommend me not using a physical blindfold for longer lines, or does using a physical blindfold add to the challenge??

      For longer lines I do not recommend a physical blindfold - it is too dangerous for falling. However, on highlines where falling is less of a problem, you can for sure use physical blindfolds.

    A higher quality of slackline tutorials and information than a lot of the more "bling-bling" American-style tutorials. Thanks Swiss Team!

    Thank you! Can you make a video how walking on the line without using hands?

    • @SlacktivityCh
      @SlacktivityCh  6 років тому +2

      Thanks for the proposition - I will think about it. One important thing for that is to lift the chest high up to have the spine elongated and good movement freedom in the spine. Similar to Yoga exercises.

    wait. so has my line been to tight? Man. I been really cranking on the line to make it as tight as I could . . . come to find out that I should set up higher, and make the line looser and pliable. I have been doing it all wrong. I will have to set up a looser line such that the line is setup high, but the slack brings the line lower so I can easily stand on the line from a lowered height. I didn't know that the slack and the give of the line helps with balance. I will say, though, that i had some clues that this could have been true, as I found that when I bounced up and down on the line, even if it was a tight line, that I had a bit more balance at times. I think that is the same principle, sort of, using line movement and sway as a way to keep the balance.

      Happy you learned something from this video :) In the end it is not about right or wrong. To improve your balance and joint stability it is best to work with all different tensions and slackline lengths. But to walk blindfold, looser lines are clearly easier ;-)
