As someone who has studied children’s literature, it is so refreshing to hear someone tell the actual ending of the original “The Little Mermaid.” Although mermaids turning into seafoam is a part of the lore, the Little Mermaid does not actually have this happen to her. Well done! Newly subscribed, and so excited to watch your other videos!
Even though people argue that Ariel is giving up a part of herself, it's easy to forget that her voice is seen as phenomenal by everyone. I wish more emphasis was put on that so that Ariel is willing to give it up because she's used to people only wanying her to sing, but not speak.
This video should have a million views. Excellent job! All too often I hear people say how all fairytales are just about weak women needing a prince. There is a special hate particularly for The Little Mermaid. You put into words why I always loved the story of The Little Mermaid. The symolism is beautifully and meaningful.
I sometimes imagine Ursula being maybe a matchmaker for Ariel and then maybe she wants tp relive the glory of falling in love, so maybe that's why she takes Ariel's voice. Or on the other hand, maybe Ursula also knows about the Prince and has seen him before and actually secretly likes him too, so it's all just a way for her to be with the Prince, I don't know. Anyway, it's very interesting to see your analysis, 'cause usually with the Disney movies, I just assume that they're not as consistent as the original fairy tales were, but it's still very good to hear your thoughts.
Have you heard of the Jungian analyst Marie-Louise von Franz? She has written many a book on the archetypal motifs and psychological meaning of fairytales. Very fascinating stuff. I think you would really enjoy her work. They actually just started releasing her collected works, the first couple of which are her analysis of many fairytales. I haven't gotten around to reading it yet, but I've read some of her other work on fairytales. Your analysis was very refreshing because almost no one looks at the deeper meaning behind these stories. THANK YOU.

Wow I loove symbolism in literature and movies and the little mermaid was my favorite movie when I was little, this is perfect 😊
Please make more videos, they are a very refreshing style for video essays
This was so interesting! I hadn’t thought about the symbols in that way and it makes the movie that much better!
