- Hello and welcome to another episode of Commodore 64 versus Amstrad CPC.
In this video, 8 games released in 1992 are shown running on both machines so you can see how different (or similar) they were.
Games like Addams Family, Potsworth & Co., Crystal Kingdom Dizzy and 5 others.
Thanks for watching and let me know in the comments section below who "wins".
And, of course, see you in the next RetroNoName episode - Ігри
Amstrad color,but C64,
music sound and scrolling.
except postman pat - c64 owners must have been fuming if they had cpc mates lol
Oh the irony of Turbo the Tortoise on the Amstrad!
Winner C64 for good scrooling, sound and fast. 👍👍
A good year for CPC games. Only one low effort Spectrum port!
Armstrad only looked good in the magazine stills.
The Amstrad had nice colours for the backgrounds and sometimes the sprites but the C64 sprites look better generally I like the look of the Amstrad graphics, they weren't that bad.
What kills the Amstrade for me is the frame rate. So so slow. Not all games, but a lot of these comparisons showcase very slow Amstrad ports.
Both The Adams Family and Postman Pat 3 are graphically better on Amstrad. Some of the others are pretty close. Smoother scrolling on C64. More vibrant colour on Amstrad
C64 was more popular by far and easier to code for, so it was always ahead of its competitors when it comes to performance. CPC had tough luck, it wasn’t that widespread and owners were getting bad ports most of the time, not taking advantage of the hardware, sometimes atrocious conversions from Speccy... but when skilled coders got to work, IMO this hardware could produce results which are not that far from A500.
But yeah, overall back then it was a minefield for owners of any home computer, not only when it comes to generally poor quality but also because the favt that companies were churning out games which were barely any fun to play. To the point in which Snake on Nokia 3310 is a masterpiece of gameplay.
Amstrad nails it!
👍👍
Addams family is better on CPC. The Dizzy game is also close. C64 wins all the rest however.
e ne vem zakak da je ko primer c64 li specija z amstracdom oz pr nas znanem kot chneider cpc se mi zdi,kar se grafike tiče da znagata c 64 ali spectrum donec comofore
I appreciate the videos, but you could play / practice playing g the games a bit more . Video short , you could show more game play. Video not technically difficult as you are playing from emulation.
I appreciate the comment and your constructive criticism - you are essentially right. I am clueless in some of the games I'm recording :)
But, in my defence, you need to keep in mind that this channel is a pure hobby of mine (not a job) - and it will always be only a hobby. So, many times I don't really have the time to master all the games I'm presenting. Even the comparison video like this one takes many hours to make (first find the games that match the release year for both machines, then playing them and recording them and after that I can create a video).
So, unfortunatelly, I won't ever be able to really master all the games on all machines I cover - especially not those that are really bad and almost unplayable (like Seymour for CPC in this video) ;)
But again, I appreciate your time for writing a feedback and thanks for watching the video!
Some of those games were presumably on the plus range- given that had hardware sprites and scrolling and was arguably more powerful than the c64 (except for sound), interesting how every single game looks like it plays slower and less smoothly than the c64 ones!
No Amstrad plus og GX4000 games were shown in this video
You are wrong … CPC had better colour palette. Actually more powerful than c64 if they know how to program (see Batman demo )

Pinball Dreams and the upcoming new Bomb Jack shows that the Amstrad CPC hardware is superior. The Amstrad plus range is even more so, but has little software support
