In this video I try to give a very simple explanation of what's going on inside of a vintage receiver.

A great help for beginners trying to do basic troubleshooting. Love your channel.

It's crazy how getting back to basics offers so much in education! Well done!

Great video!! This was very valuable to set the stage for troubleshooting a receiver. I would love to see a Part 2 which would cover more in depth troubleshooting methodology. Something fairly generic vs. just for one specific receiver model. Just an idea for a future video. (ie "How to troubleshoot a vintage receiver" now that we know how they work.)

Thanks so much for this simple explanation...I am about to TRY to repair a 1971 Sony receiver and I don't know anything 😅

Great video. I've been trying to understand and diagnose amps and receivers for a couple of years now, with no professional training. And this is the first time, I've ever seen an outline of a logical approach! Thanks!

thank you, this is what I needed to know. I was always paying attention to the path through
the am circuit/ and fm and all those circuits, they are the same radio path for
1930's or 40's till now .of coarse with transistors . Your the first I have come across to explain
the rest, So I have this 4 ch sansui qrx 5500 I think, I purchase it from somebody that didn't say it
was exposed to heat in a fire . it looks normall, but might not have nothing to do with it not working,
but one guy gave up on it , said he changed transistors a stuff that it must be the computer
he called it , and he checked ,they don't sell that part anymore no one does. he said. I wonder
if I could by pass that

Finally, a straight on explanation of the workings inside these magic boxes! This will help immensely with troubleshooting some issues my old Harman Kardons are having! Thanks for posting and I just subbed!

I love Harman kardon. Which ones did you get? I have more modern ones now but I am thinking of getting an older one too

@@stefanegger My original 330A (Dec '71) is on the bench at the moment. It went thru lots of heavy partying when young, two marriages, several kids and their friends and has been in storage for many years now. It was 'worked on' by a friend and I think it had more damage done to it than repair. Other units I've picked up lately are HK 230A, another 330A, 330C, a Nocturne Eight Twenty, and a Rotel RX-400A, which is very similar inside to a 300A. Recapping will probably be mandatory for some but I'll wait until I've purchased a scope and function generator and have learned how to use them better.

Thanks for explaining this. I wonder if you could explain the significance of the impedance? For instance, how permissible is it to mix and match different impendence for speakers? Can I do damage to my receiver or speakers?

    • @AHFixIt
      @AHFixIt  3 роки тому +1

I've been thinking of doing a video on this so I just might do it now! It's just a matter of understanding resistors in series and parallel, and ohm's law. Basically you don't want the amp to drive any impedance less than it's designed to drive.

@@AHFixIt I just purchase a vintage Sony receiver and on the back it says only 8 ohms or more for the speakers. I have a nice set of 8 ohm speakers and they sound great on this old Sony.
