And from watching Daniel's Arms alpacas carry, it's so tough to visually know they are pregnant bc of how long their midsections are. It's all about how she feels , not how she looks. Normally they are tied from the back and front legs so they don't move and I love the way Jami approached her, gentle and singing. You did amazing Jami plus we found out she's carrying. It's not about win or lose but for the animals comfort. 🌟👍🌼💜🍀

Brings back memories from my days when I was a groomer. Had to de-shed and groom a huge German Shepherd once. I came out of that looking like Chewbacca. Grooming animals is a lot harder than it looks. Sometimes you can only do so much before the animal starts to really stress out. At least you got a good portion of Annie’s fiber off. I really hope we get to see a baby in the near future, how exciting! 😀

My fear is how will motherhood change the dynamics with the other animals. Will she become more agresive to all the other animals some of the other animal or she become more protective of all the animals. How will she handle agression from ringo towards others. And how will she react to people entering the enclosure. So many questions she was more or less a wild alpaca before she came to Ima will motherhood trigger to return to old feral mannerisms? Or will she become more docile?
She was alot calmer with Jaime putting the halter on her face than I'd expected. You guys are fantastic with these guys and we all know it's in their best interest. Keep up all the good work

I can't even imagine trying to give Annie her summertime haircut. I had a schnauzer that hated it when it was time for her new do. We battled and sometimes she ended up like Raggedy Ann too. How in the world you keep your dresses to stay down. There has to be a art to it. I'm so amaze.. Me. I'm always tuggy and pulling down. I grew up on the farm. My Mom always wore dresses but they came to the knees. Or just below. Us girls wore dresses too. Some times pants or jeans. To do farm work in. At first Dad didn't allow shorts. I remember one year he told us girls we were not were in shorts. I think Mom saw a different side. I'm 70. Back then girls only wore dresses. No shorts or pants unless winter and snow and very cold and pants under dresses and had to be taken off before school started and back on just before getting on the bus. Omgosh ppl.. Jaime did a fantastic job.. If any of you watched last year it was chaos.. This was much much more calmer.. Each time I believe it will get better an easier.. Pretty sure Jamie has done her research on shearing the alpacas.. Looks to me like she doesn't mind doing it an why have someone else do it when she wants to do it.. Her animals an she gets the experience.. She handled it just fine... Having outside ppl come an do it stresses the animals out more.. That's why this year they chose not to have anyone come an help an frankly it was a wise choice...it was alot calmer an Jamie is a champ.. Great job..

I think it might of been on one of Jakes videos where I commented that I had never seen Annie be one of the firsts to start eating. She had started eating almost immediately. She usually stands back and makes sure everyone else gets to eat and be safe before she starts to eat. I hadn't been thinking she was pregnant but it makes a lot of sense now. Lester, I was so scared when you stopped petting her head and she went kind of crazy. I was afraid she was going to stomp on you. Jami, I love how you sing to them. She really does trust you. I loved how at the end she went right back to dipping her feet and wanted her shower time with you. That was adorable! That just shows she loves and trusts you. No worries about the haircut at all. If she is protecting a baby then more power to her. I have a feeling she probably isn't the only Alpaca out there with hair on her legs and tummy if they are pregnant. Sure there might be others that have the professionals doing it but how stressed out did they get the poor Mama? You guys use your own best judgement and I would of done the same exact thing as you. You guys are a sanctuary and these animals and feather babies are living their best lives with you guys and the less stress the better. Just feel good about getting as much as you did off of her. OMGosh I really hope she is pregnant and you guys will have a baby running around soon. You and Lester both did a great job at handling her. I was also thinking, maybe Annie was finally able to get pregnant because of the lady Ostriches being there to help protect her babies in the sanctuary. Annie was on such high alert for all those years and maybe she was too stressed to get pregnant. I know they say that's a myth but I know the minute I had quit my stressful job and we had tried for 3 years doing everything and anything to get pregnant it wasn't until I actually quit when I found out two months later I was finally pregnant. Maybe Annie knows that the ladies are there to help and it was a great time to bring a baby into her world. I'm probably over thinking but...
Janis Ian’s “Belle of the Blues” iirc is the song I default to when attempting to calm animals. I’ve got a natural growl to my voice, and age has accentuated it. No idea why it works for me, but it does. Good job Jami! It’s a serviceable cut. That’s all that is required.
Annie is adorable no matter what Jami. You did the right thing in stopping and not stressing Annie out anymore. I know she always stressed in getting shaved but stopping is the right thing especially if she is having a baby. Super excited there could be a baby Alpca soon. thought she could be pregnant because Ernie wasn’t being frisky with her (seen in background of many videos lol) so she didn’t seem to be cycling. I really hope she is. There are some ladies in Texas that sheer Alpca, sheep and Lamas. I understand you not wanting to stress your babies out but these ladies seem to work very well with the most anxious animals and can sheer in less than 15 minutes. Maybe they can help for next time, even if you didn’t hire them maybe some of their tricks and tips could work for you.

I have learned a lot from Annie since you got her. I never knew nor had I ever really had anything to do with Llamas nor Alpaca only seen them in paddocks munching on grass. I had no idea they could go into total flight mode so fast and unpredictably from looking placid one second to full on the next. She will be much cooler like she is and besides Ernie wore his PJays all last year. LOL I was so sure she was pregnant the way she was eating more and looking that bit healthier rather than being the lean watchful lady she always was. I really hope and pray she is and has a beautiful healthy baby. You both did well with them this time, although Annie was still stirred up I think last year she was far worse.
I'm sure Annie feels a whole lot better though she'll never admit it! So excited if she is carrying a little one. Annie deserves to have her own little baby.

I grew up on the farm.
My Mom always wore dresses but they came to the knees. Or just below.
Us girls wore dresses too.
Some times pants or jeans.
To do farm work in.
At first Dad didn't allow shorts.
I remember one year he told us girls we were not were in shorts.
I think Mom saw a different side.
I'm 70. Back then girls only wore dresses. No shorts or pants unless winter and snow and very cold and pants under dresses and had to be taken off before school started and back on just before getting on the bus.
I'm glad you didn't have to fight Annie much. She's getting better getting her hair cut.

I think Annie is calmer with Jamie than Lester. Jamie doesn't seem to get as animated as Lester does, which in turn keeps Annie calmer.

Ernie really is that amazing sweet guy every gal wants. he's CONSTANTLY attracted to Annie, thinks she's the most beautiful woman ever, follows her everywhere, is at hand a foot well hoove and hoove, and is just so supportive. and my goodness Annie really was acting different this shear wasn't she?! I'm with ya, I think she's protecting a baby. you all are are BEST

Looks to me like she doesn't mind doing it an why have someone else do it when she wants to do it.. Her animals an she gets the experience.. She handled it just fine... Having outside ppl come an do it stresses the animals out more.. That's why this year they chose not to have anyone come an help an frankly it was a wise choice...it was alot calmer an Jamie is a champ.. Great job..

I think it might of been on one of Jakes videos where I commented that I had never seen Annie be one of the firsts to start eating. She had started eating almost immediately. She usually stands back and makes sure everyone else gets to eat and be safe before she starts to eat. I hadn't been thinking she was pregnant but it makes a lot of sense now. Lester, I was so scared when you stopped petting her head and she went kind of crazy. I was afraid she was going to stomp on you. Jami, I love how you sing to them. She really does trust you. I loved how at the end she went right back to dipping her feet and wanted her shower time with you. That was adorable! That just shows she loves and trusts you. No worries about the haircut at all. If she is protecting a baby then more power to her. I have a feeling she probably isn't the only Alpaca out there with hair on her legs and tummy if they are pregnant. Sure there might be others that have the professionals doing it but how stressed out did they get the poor Mama? You guys use your own best judgement and I would of done the same exact thing as you. You guys are a sanctuary and these animals and feather babies are living their best lives with you guys and the less stress the better. Just feel good about getting as much as you did off of her. OMGosh I really hope she is pregnant and you guys will have a baby running around soon. You and Lester both did a great job at handling her. I was also thinking, maybe Annie was finally able to get pregnant because of the lady Ostriches being there to help protect her babies in the sanctuary. Annie was on such high alert for all those years and maybe she was too stressed to get pregnant. I know they say that's a myth but I know the minute I had quit my stressful job and we had tried for 3 years doing everything and anything to get pregnant it wasn't until I actually quit when I found out two months later I was finally pregnant. Maybe Annie knows that the ladies are there to help and it was a great time to bring a baby into her world. I'm probably over thinking but...

Janis Ian’s “Belle of the Blues” iirc is the song I default to when attempting to calm animals. I’ve got a natural growl to my voice, and age has accentuated it. No idea why it works for me, but it does. Good job Jami! It’s a serviceable cut. That’s all that is required.

Annie is adorable no matter what Jami. You did the right thing in stopping and not stressing Annie out anymore. I know she always stressed in getting shaved but stopping is the right thing especially if she is having a baby. Super excited there could be a baby Alpca soon. thought she could be pregnant because Ernie wasn’t being frisky with her (seen in background of many videos lol) so she didn’t seem to be cycling. I really hope she is. There are some ladies in Texas that sheer Alpca, sheep and Lamas. I understand you not wanting to stress your babies out but these ladies seem to work very well with the most anxious animals and can sheer in less than 15 minutes. Maybe they can help for next time, even if you didn’t hire them maybe some of their tricks and tips could work for you.

I am so excited for all of you. Annie is going to be such a great mother. I agree about her laying down to protect herself. For so long I have been praying that Annie has a baby of her own. I know that it has not been confirmed by a vet, however, all of you are so great with your animals that I trust your judgement about figuring out that Annie seems to be carrying a baby.

I have learned a lot from Annie since you got her. I never knew nor had I ever really had anything to do with Llamas nor Alpaca only seen them in paddocks munching on grass. I had no idea they could go into total flight mode so fast and unpredictably from looking placid one second to full on the next.
She will be much cooler like she is and besides Ernie wore his PJays all last year. LOL
I was so sure she was pregnant the way she was eating more and looking that bit healthier rather than being the lean watchful lady she always was. I really hope and pray she is and has a beautiful healthy baby.
You both did well with them this time, although Annie was still stirred up I think last year she was far worse.
I'm sure Annie feels a whole lot better though she'll never admit it! So excited if she is carrying a little one. Annie deserves to have her own little baby.
