you are the greatest man on earth to me right now. you saved my ass. i just for the life of me figure out how to use 2 limit switches in my dump bed build using a electric jack. and i cant believe how simple it was. your diagram will go on my board in the shop. thank you.

Thanks for the limit switch diagram. Your diagram should say Normally closed switches for those that look at it and think both switches are open

Thank you for explaining this so effectively. I plan to install a motor to a shortwave radio magnetic loop antenna for a 360 degree rotation & was wondering how to install limit switches to the design to stop the device twisting the connecting coax cable around the mounting mast.

Hi, I have built and completed a drive for my SIEG SX1LP HiTorque mini mill all as per your details, and it works fine except for one small problem. The motor used is a Hilitand DC 12V 200RPM Turbo Worm Geared Permanent Magnet Reduction Motor however I feel that it lacks sufficient power to drive the bed.
Could you kindly supply me with the full details of the DC unit that you used for your conversion please.
Thanking you in anticipation and many thanks for all the good tips you have shared.
Regards Roger David (Wales - UK)

How the NC wire connects to the DPDT switch is clear but how does the Common wire connect please?

On my tool and cutter grinder my limit switches are not immediately changing the direction of the motor . Causing the drive to push on the limit switch mounts . Can you help me by explaining what's causing the problems. I have a variable speed knob which I'm forced to run at low speed. Thank you for your advice. My name is Pete

I am running into a brick wall. I found another 6pin DPDT switch I can wire like your drawing. But it seems ALL the limit switches are rated for less than half an amp DC. I just got off the phone with TEMCo and even their 16a switches are only rated for .4amps in DC. There has got to be something I am missing.
I just got a clamp ammeter and my motor is drawing about 14amps DC at peak load.

Do you know the amperage flowing thru those limit switches? I can't find a limit switch rated for more than .4amps DC. There are dozens of limit switches available and at this point I'm tempted just to get one and put the stupid thing in the machine and see what happens.
How can it be limited to .4amps anyway? What kind of hair-thin contacts are they using???

i am not an electrician and understand very little, but here's what i want to do. I have a reversable 12V dc motor. What I want it to do is turn on automaticallly with a timer in one direction and shut off (with a limit switch?) after about 2 seconds. About 2 hours later I need the opposite action. Both actions automatic using a timer with DC power.

Would this work using a DPDT relay instead of the DPDT toggle? When I wire the relay up the same as the toggle it shorts out. What am I missing?

    • @rok1475
      @rok1475 3 роки тому

Rocker switch has neutral position (nothing is connected).
Relay is either on or off.
You would need to use 4 simple SPST relays to build an H bridge to reverse the polarity of the DC going to the motor.

It seems like I have a different sort of DPDT switch from your drawing. Mine has fixed 'crossbars' like an X. This is where (I think) you show the limit switches interrupting neg. Maybe I cannot put a limit switch on mine... because power would be cut in both directions.

Uggh, I'm trying to make it work but I'm having no luck. Apparently the contacts on a DPDT toggle switch are not the same as a DPDT relay. His wiring instructions are not working with the relay. Do you recall if you found instructions somewhere else or just trial and error???

@@kevinbooth8309 I found the answer by looking at how car door locks lock and unlock using the same switch.

Thankyou for posting this info. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
This is my first electrical project. I'm using an 18v drill motor/battery to drive a winch. The idea would be to limit _inward_ travel before it binds & pulls it's own anchor loose.
    - Would this work with a DPDT switch that has the built-in crossbars? I see some don't, and people make their own jumpers... which I don't see on your drawing.
    My DPDT switch...
