I've been looking for this solution for hours. Never thought about it being this simple. Many thanks.
I have been working on a multi station lift and was having a problem installing the limit switches. Your post contained the answer. Thank you, well presented.
you are the greatest man on earth to me right now. you saved my ass. i just for the life of me figure out how to use 2 limit switches in my dump bed build using a electric jack. and i cant believe how simple it was. your diagram will go on my board in the shop. thank you.
thank you, very helpful.
Thanks for the limit switch diagram. Your diagram should say Normally closed switches for those that look at it and think both switches are open
Thank you for explaining this so effectively. I plan to install a motor to a shortwave radio magnetic loop antenna for a 360 degree rotation & was wondering how to install limit switches to the design to stop the device twisting the connecting coax cable around the mounting mast.
Moving data from one place to another is a risky business and often something gets lost Nice explanation.
Thanks for this!! Worked great to control the travel of my sawmill!
That's beautifully simple. Thank you very much!
Excellent video. Thank you for the wiring diagram for including the limit switches....well done.
Thanks for stopping by.
Hi just seen this video thanks .my next query is connecting a rapid or turbo button. Kind regards Paul
Will a limit switch like the one you used in the video support a motor of DC12v 120w 40A ?
So simple after you explained it.
thank you
Hi, I have built and completed a drive for my SIEG SX1LP HiTorque mini mill all as per your details, and it works fine except for one small problem. The motor used is a Hilitand DC 12V 200RPM Turbo Worm Geared Permanent Magnet Reduction Motor however I feel that it lacks sufficient power to drive the bed.
Could you kindly supply me with the full details of the DC unit that you used for your conversion please.
Thanking you in anticipation and many thanks for all the good tips you have shared.
Regards Roger David (Wales - UK)
This is so very helpful, thank you for posting!
Thank you for the great info. I'll be using it on my tractor snowblower chute.
Great info , Hope it helps the person out that asked ! Thumbs up ..
ShawnMrFixitlee I sure hope he/she sees this. Thanks for stopping by.
How the NC wire connects to the DPDT switch is clear but how does the Common wire connect please?
Stuck trying to fit my limit switches, any help gratefully received.
Thanks
Mitch
Need help here....12v system.... what I have- 1 dc motor wired into 2 spdt relays to mimic 1 dpdt relay to create a forward/reverse action. what im trying to do is tie in a riorand speed control, then add limit switches to the system. my issue is where to had in the speed control to make it work properly?
On my tool and cutter grinder my limit switches are not immediately changing the direction of the motor . Causing the drive to push on the limit switch mounts . Can you help me by explaining what's causing the problems. I have a variable speed knob which I'm forced to run at low speed. Thank you for your advice. My name is Pete
I am running into a brick wall. I found another 6pin DPDT switch I can wire like your drawing. But it seems ALL the limit switches are rated for less than half an amp DC. I just got off the phone with TEMCo and even their 16a switches are only rated for .4amps in DC. There has got to be something I am missing.
I just got a clamp ammeter and my motor is drawing about 14amps DC at peak load.
very clear drawing, please the drawing with limit switches where would you add a jog switch ?
good too the point and thank you for video..will put in my to do projects..those look like micro switches from a microwave...have a few of those on hand
thank you Sir!
Do you know the amperage flowing thru those limit switches? I can't find a limit switch rated for more than .4amps DC. There are dozens of limit switches available and at this point I'm tempted just to get one and put the stupid thing in the machine and see what happens.
How can it be limited to .4amps anyway? What kind of hair-thin contacts are they using???
Thanks for this. I’m doing something similar and need to include limit switches. What else does your control box do?
Excellent! Thank you
Great video
i am not an electrician and understand very little, but here's what i want to do. I have a reversable 12V dc motor. What I want it to do is turn on automaticallly with a timer in one direction and shut off (with a limit switch?) after about 2 seconds. About 2 hours later I need the opposite action. Both actions automatic using a timer with DC power.
Great explanation! Your videos are awesome! What is the size on the plastic box that houses the motor speed controller? Where can you purchase it?
thanks alot
Thanks. Very helpful.
Would this work using a DPDT relay instead of the DPDT toggle? When I wire the relay up the same as the toggle it shorts out. What am I missing?
Rocker switch has neutral position (nothing is connected).
Relay is either on or off.
You would need to use 4 simple SPST relays to build an H bridge to reverse the polarity of the DC going to the motor.
hello MrPragmaticLee I like to use limit switches on DTDP with timer will it work
I have been trying to get a semantic to run a. Linear Actuator 24v i want to run the system on a battery i have both. it has limit switches in the actuator. i would love to have it on a LDR Photo cell. And running of of a solar cell to charge the battery. this is ill know you will get a chuckle to open a chicken coop door. Have lost too many birds. just because i was a few min late getting home. any help wold be great and im sure you would hafe thanks from others that are in the same spot. thanks randy
Great video! I've been looking for this info !
Glad it was a help Thanks for stopping by
Worked for me ..thanks
Great information, thanks!
Thanks for stopping by.
Can you give more info on the model or specs of the limit switches and where to get them?
Never mind. Later in your video I was able to see the mfr. name and model in your close up. Easy to find on internet and cheap price.
what do i do if im using 1 switch to run 2 motors?
If you don't mind, I have a off topic question for you but rather than hijacking this thread is there another way I can send you a message?
Brandon Tscheschlog Sure, my email address is pragmaticlee@gmail.com
It seems like I have a different sort of DPDT switch from your drawing. Mine has fixed 'crossbars' like an X. This is where (I think) you show the limit switches interrupting neg. Maybe I cannot put a limit switch on mine... because power would be cut in both directions.

Sorry... didn't mean to post it twice. I deleted one.
great it helps
Still there?
Well DPDT Relay has eight pins not six?
Thank you.
There are 6 switch contacts. Two of the pins are for the coil, not the switch contacts.
@@EL34XYZ Did you ever make it work with a relay?
@@kevinbooth8309 Yes, but that was a year ago and I can't remember exactly what I did :)
Uggh, I'm trying to make it work but I'm having no luck. Apparently the contacts on a DPDT toggle switch are not the same as a DPDT relay. His wiring instructions are not working with the relay. Do you recall if you found instructions somewhere else or just trial and error???
@@kevinbooth8309 I found the answer by looking at how car door locks lock and unlock using the same switch.
Thankyou for posting this info. I have a couple of questions if you don't mind.
This is my first electrical project. I'm using an 18v drill motor/battery to drive a winch. The idea would be to limit _inward_ travel before it binds & pulls it's own anchor loose.
- Would this work with a DPDT switch that has the built-in crossbars? I see some don't, and people make their own jumpers... which I don't see on your drawing.
My DPDT switch...

Thanks for the video! It was useful for me in order to construct my "Bimbo V.1" device: ua-cam.com/video/vgfCYsiZAkE/v-deo.html By the way, what do you think it is actually good for?
Why are you telling us about how you lost something and how it bugs you? Not relevant.
