Hey Naomi and everyone else! I just wanted to say that those jeans at 9:40 are originally from a online shop called "Racer worldwide", just in case someone was interested ✌️
$119 for a pair of jeans is probably why people buy fast fashion in the first place. Majority of people all over the world make minimum wage or less - unless they were born with a silver spoon, got lucky getting a good job, or work for themselves. Fast fashion isn’t ethical of course not but charging over $100 for a pair of jeans with a rather simple design is absurd. After bills, rent or mortgage, groceries and gas- how much money would the average person have left for leisurely things? Therefore, forcing people to find cheaper alternatives that best suits their budget. I don’t shame nor blame anyone who buys from fast fashion apps. Brands would get alot more profit if their products would be widely accessible to everyone regardless of their salary. This isn’t directed at you btw.
@@no-cz7js I agree to point, I definitely can’t afford to buy $119 dollar jeans, but when things are made sustainably this price isn’t really unrealistic. I think the overconsumption of our society has kind of brainwashed us to this idea that we need to have a ton of different clothes, when in reality we don’t. And if we only bought what we needed instead of a bunch of pieces every time a new trend came then I think sustainability could be affordable. I will say though in terms of fast fashion i don’t judge, except for people who shop at shein. Shein makes way more clothing than other fast fashion sites and the awful stuff that has come out about them I don’t think is excusable just because people want cute clothing.
@@no-cz7js Sorry but I think $119 is pretty resonable, especially since they're independent and small designers, they also have to make their money. I see a lot of bigger brands who charge the same money or more for normal jeans without any designs and awful quality, those are the ones who deserve the blame.
@stella4320, thank you so much for sharing!!! @no-cz7js, $100 is worth a pair of jeans that will last years. Fast Fashion kills the desire of the masses to own a pair of jeans that will last 3-7 years because "it isn't a trendy style anymore" in less than a year. Companies are jumping on trends (to be competitive and opportunistic), and since people want to be trendy, they only "need" a pair that will last a few months. Quality and cost are reduced as a result, creating more product and a greater push to sell fast, therein, more waste. Our desires to be up-to-date on the "coolest stuff of right now" is wasteful and leads to companies working employees harder in order to push product faster. Then people get mad when something rips or seams come out on a new thing they bought, and blame the workers for doing "a bad job" when those workers went from needing to sew, say, 2 items in a day, to now being told to sew 40 items in a day for the same paycheck while the ever-increasing threat of being replaced by someone who is willing to cut corners on some sewing techniques to make 50 items. Those corners being cut is overlooked by companies pushing product because they know the items don't have to last and the consumers are expected to think "oh well it didn't really matter that it came ripped cause it was only $5", and throw it out rather than go through the hoops and loops of getting that $5 back. And then here you are complaining that when the companies that do not support Fast Fashion end up showing that they support their employees and treat them fairly, not create excess and add to waste, by asking for a price that keeps the company's income sustained. As a collective, we can address this and help change the Fast Fashion mindset by reducing the shifts in trendsetting. Enjoying our clothing for longer, respecting the designs that sustain the products for longer, not cutting corners on manufacturing techniques or overhead cost, and not being wasteful. Remember, WE are the masses. WE as a collective are capable of setting trends by valuing things for longer periods of time.
@@no-cz7js i'd rather pay more for something that isnt going to fall apart in 3 months + doesnt contain lead + wasn't made with child labour. $119 for a pair of original design jeans is actually pretty reasonable. It's more economically efficient to buy something that will last than something that will fall apart and need replacing pretty soon. Also I personally haven't seen many low income people in my life ordering off shein and temu, the people I know usually thrift or buy clothes from affordable local stores (like $5 for a shirt). When it comes to the giant fast-fashion hauls however, it's usually the people you're referring to who were born w a silver spoon doing those.
Naomi thank you for declining this sponsorship. You’re the only creator I’ve seen doing so and while I understand they are just trying to make a living, companies like these are hurtful for their employees, the environment, and the consumers.

It just gives me the "why am I even trying" feeling when it comes to trying to reduce my plastic usage and living more resourceful.

@@iamnizhani But you don't need to buy 10 or more new clothing items every month to "look cute". It's once again the human trait of being insatiable. Honestly I find it so interesting how people are out here defending Temu with their heart and soul and using the defense of “temu is like Amazon”. Like we all know Temu is using unethical business practices and we know Amazon is too! Amazon, temu, wish, shein, Ali express, are all awful places that we shouldn’t buy from. However, no one is attacking you for buying shit from those places, we know how these shops purposely target people of lower economic status with their low prices. Just bc you buy from their doesn’t make you a bad person but that doesn’t mean we can’t criticize Temu.
All this whataboutism is why nothing will change. Things could if we all agreed whatever products sold here should be safe for consumers and change the legal amounts for heavy metals, etc to 0 . There's not much we can do about ethics, but we can have more transparency. I wish more documentaries were made about the fashion industry like the one Canada marketplace and another I saw about factories collapsing in India. As well as suspicious things happening in the US. I see a lot of hidden sewing factories and I'm worried about the people working in them. Also, also that workers could be exposed to dangerous things like lead. I think that's a worldwide crisis. I get that a lot is made in china which could cause political issues, but what if imports get randomly tested or companies get tested like in the canada marketplace documentary? Anyway. I'm disappointed in everyone for turning on each other (mainly those defending these companies) rather than standing together. And for continuing to buy crap that just ends up in the garbage for its quality and also despite funds being stolen from customers. Where are your standards or self-respect? They're putting you at risk, taking your money and you're here smiling with your products like it's all okay.- This has been weighing on me a lot and I felt comforted seeing your comment.
People are definitely attacking other people for where they buy from. And I personally really haven’t seen anyone defending temu… just explaining that a company’s method of operation is not like another website just because they’re both Chinese. People are criticizing a website not because they understand how it works but because they saw someone else give incorrect information, and that’s kind of messed up. Like they couldn’t even tell you who the Uyghur people are I could not care less about where you shop at but don’t spread misinformation just because you don’t like something… we’re all better than that. Do research. Do more research.
@@Mystery880 The direct-to-purchaser Chinese imports aren’t tested because of the way our import system works. Which became other people just assuming that they aren’t adhering to the act, mostly because they don’t understand the business model

Why don't people understand that Asian skin literally is that shade and Asian trend is to actually use an even lighter foundation than their natural skin. Out of ALL the stuff about temu the fucking foundation shade is not the issue.
I think it’s mainly because temu facilities are in Asian countries where light skin colors are held at unbelievably high standards and anything darker than pure white is ugly. They’re very racist in that way. I’m not using this as an excuse, but it’s how the society has always been. Vo Tino did those alien nails, unfortunately sites like that steal his pictures/designs all the time 😢
Hey Naomi and everyone else!
Even Ann from HTCT took a sponsorship from them. A UA-camr who was known for calling out shady stuff like content farms and such. I was so disappointed seeing her give in to such a clearly shady company.

Most stuff from amazon is from China, the same products just more expensive.
same. I was looking for enamel pins on etsy and then out of curiosity I found them on temu for 1/10th the price. I refused to purchase from either platform. its just gross. plus they (temu) blatantly steal true artists designs and make shit inferior landfill equivalents. so gross.
And amazon is owned by a a sketchy multi millionaire which needs to be boycotted
Amazon prices always overpriced, such nonsense
Because that's literally what drop shippers do, which is like most of Amazon sellers. Amazon is just a more expensive wish. I would never buy something there that isn't from a brand I like. Amazon is not cheap either. I advice everyone to look for other places to buy their stuff
my boyfriend has the jeans at 9:30 (the original ones, not the rip off). if anyone is interested, the brand is called Racer Worldwide :)
I’ve seen multiple people claim that their card details were stolen and they had money taken out of their bank accounts after shopping from Temu. We need to start thinking critically before shopping what is obviously too good to be true - not even touching on the ethics of mass produced trash made by people paid a dollar per day…

Omg the way a TEMU ad played right before this video started😅😭😂
Seriously, to me Temu is such a set back when it comes to living more environmentally friendly. It has finally become more popular again to recycle, reuse and repair things before throwing them out and now we get *another* website that is bombarding us with cheap "fast fashion" like products that aren't produced environmentally friendly *or* ethically. It just gives me the "why am I even trying" feeling when it comes to trying to reduce my plastic usage and living more resourceful.
People have no money
So until they make fashion (not just thrifting; if you are in a place with no style you’re not going to have good options) easy to reuse and recycle, things like Temu of Shein will be very successful
People want to be able to eat and live and look cute at the same time
@@iamnizhani But you don't need to buy 10 or more new clothing items every month to "look cute". It's once again the human trait of being insatiable. Fast fashion isn't only a problem because it doesn't last as long (even though I have some old clothes that one could consider fast fashion that still hold up after years) but also because it's so cheap that people get unnecessarily many clothes.
@@Blubableful I have not had that experience needing to buy more to look cute. And I am in positions to be able to both thrift and make my own clothes
I think you may be coming from a place of privilege that maybe can’t conceptualise them difference in price and use for fast vs slow fashion
Privileged much to afford ethical expensive things.
Dont feel bad girly, companies try to make us feel guilty about our plastic usage when we really aren't the problem here. Also to anyone saying they can't afford to buy ethical stuff - I totally get that, but since I started shopping on Vinted, I haven't needed to buy anything fast fashion, second hand sites like this are the best :)
It's funny, I watched a video this morning about an other UA-camr who said Temu kept emailing him too.
Instead of collaborating with them he decided to make a video explaining why it's not a good website and why this website is shady (which honestly, I kinda liked).

Naomi, that smell and itch is from formaldehyde. That's how these places prevent mold and such on the clothes. If you ever open a clothing package and it's somewhat damp feeling, it's formaldehyde.

It is the same chemical that is used in American hair relaxers which are now being banned because of its common pattern with causing cancer in black women (i say black women because they are the main users and targeted audience on hair relaxers, especially little girls.)
A safer alternative to permanent hair straightening is Japanese hair straightening (thermal reconditioning) this process is naturally formaldehyde-free meaning no cancer in exchange for straight hair. Yay! (or just rock natural hair if that's what you want to do also)

I think one of my biggest issues with it is seeing older people buy stuff from there. These are people who aren't entirely aware of these types of websites and compare it to Amazon. And while Amazon does sell these cheap drop shipping items, they also sell from reputable brands. It's kind of just a scam for people who aren't entirely technology or internet literate. Just don't buy electronics from them, that's my biggest warning I think lol they are NOT real products.

I would love to see you purchase from the Kardashian/Jenner closet! I think it would be so fun and their clothes would fit your body shape nicely! Love you btw 🩷
@@amandak.4246 dude everything you buy that has a "made in China" label on it was made using child labour.
Like they couldn’t even tell you who the Uyghur people are
I could not care less about where you shop at but don’t spread misinformation just because you don’t like something… we’re all better than that. Do research. Do more research.
@@Mystery880 The direct-to-purchaser Chinese imports aren’t tested because of the way our import system works. It's not the whitest of white, it's beigeish. It's a standard "asian" shade in coverage products that only come in a shade or two. They have an actual white color as you've seen in the video. It's called ivory white. It might surprise you but these, usually chinese okay to shadyish companies aren't losing sleep over dark skinned people or worrying about phrasing in english which is a foreign language to them. Everyone around them is around that shade, maybe a little darker? It's getting called natural.
