Bought the tape in 1983-4 when I was stationed at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Illinois. Kick ass group. Wish I could buy a CD now. Good times! Mabels had good acts then.
A roommate I had for a while back in college had done his undergrad at Champaign, and he knew this song and band well. I had heard the song on the radio, but would never have known who it was if he hadn't told me.
Oh God, how great to finally see the video after all these years! I remember numerous times seeing them at Mabel's and they even opened for U2 on the October tour at the Foellinger Auditorium!
If you want this song on CD, track down the compilation Living In Oblivion: the 80s Greatest Hits Volume 1. I believe that's the only time it ever appeared on a widely available disc.
THANK YOU, THANK yOU, THANK YOU!!!! From a yank in the mid-west!! Back when MV3, MUCHMUSIC, and MUSIQUE PLUS was GOOD!!!! (Unless NJN was 12-17 yrs old in 1980, he/she had NO IDEA when MTV was good...) lulz
0 Dislikes..why you ask? Simple, Cause the 80s were that amazing! Porsche 944, slant nose, big Cadillacs with tons of chrome, cigarettes, chest hair, gold jewelry, ray bans, big homes, Gordon Gekko, etc... lol
@BLS1313666 Before I wrote this comment, I saw a vid of an old Alphaville song that had been "sampled" by a rapper and it was pretty much the whole song with added grunting in it. Completely stolen. My comment was only slightly racist, deservingly so imho. In closing, watch your fucking mouth boy. Have a nice day.
I spent way too much time at Mabel's and saw much Combo Audio. It was a very special time for local music in Champaign... I miss it so it's nice to find this.
I did this rip 16 years ago. Can't believe no one's posted anything better. (I had real shit equipment at the time.) This was from MTV-2's overly-optimistic marathon in early 2000. Probably the first time they showed it since 1984. And the last. They screwed up the names of everybody's albums, as you can see for yourself.

Me again, to repeat: SUPERFANTASTIC!
I heard this first in the early 80s on my beloved WLIR 92.7 FM and loved it immediately.

Reo in the early 70's and Combo Audio in the early 80's Champaign IL rocks! I am so glad to say I was a part of it!

Echo those great Mabels shows. Combo Audio, the Vertebrats, B-Lovers...that music scene has aged pretty well...Mike N.

Awww, the good old days back at U of I.

Great Early 80's Champaign memories!! The crowd at Cochran's used to go nuts when we'd put on this song.
the most slept-on song of all time. A true masterpiece.
@mrbonk61 OMG -- Mabel's and Combo Audio -- Those days were so much fun! We tried to be there whenever they played too!!
Why this band was only a one hit wonder
Was messed up on mushrooms the night I seen them at a bar in Champaign Illinois
The single version of the song was far superior to this album version.
when mtv used to be MTV....
Many places, no kidding, started calling them "Combo Ego," and they were such jerks, that many bands refused to play with them...not kidding!
Thanks for posting!!! Takes me back to I-Beam in San Francisco!
