I can confirm the "Pingo" story - not being a Frogman myself, but having been deployed with the Danish special forces I actually met the Frogman who had initiated the purchase by the Corps of these watches. The REAL story is that the watch was being trialled by the Frogmen Corps (Frømandskorpset) at the same time when Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark was an aspirant to be a Frogman (he later progressed to be a fully fledged member of the Corps) and since the "Frog-name" that was given to him when he passed the trials was "Pingo" and he was seen wearing the watch on a number of press release photos, the watch was in the Danish watch-afficionado community given the affectionate name, "Citizen Pingo" 🙂 Incidentally the reason Crown Prince Frederik was given the "frog-name", "Pingo" was probably not that he waddled as a penguin, but rather that he was associated with being dressed in formal dinner jackets at royal dinners etc. - a dress commonly being seen as a caricature of a penguin (at least that is what I was told). The real Frogmen Corps issued Citizen watches (still being worn today by some of the members) have an engraving on the back with the issue numbers and if they were ever to be released into the market, they would be highly collectible - however I doubt that they will ever be. I have the same watch myself, which I bought in the PX in MOB Price, Helmand, in 2010 when I was deployed there with the Danish Battle group. Later in 2012, I was deployed to Lashkar Gah with the Danish Task Force 7, who was primarily manned by the Frogmen Corps and the other Danish SOF Corps, Jægerkorpset (the Jaeger Corps) and it was there I met the afore mentioned SOF who initiated the purchase of the watches by the Frogmen Corps and was told the story over a cup of coffee 🙂

Totally agree. The full analog Aqualand with Eco-Drive is too bulky and all the analog hands are difficult to read. I wish a new Aqualand can keep the JP-2000 analog-digital, adding eco-drive, reduce the thickness and reduce the lug width slightly. Adding a back light is good. Then it is the perfect dive watch.
Best thing Citizen did with this was to get rid of the old three battery setup - three chances to dissolve the circuitry into sticky green sludge. Had one of the old ones back in the late 1980's, took everything thrown at it.
"N.D. Limits" is "No Decompression Limits" actually, and yes I believe they were the first to include it on a watch strap. Interestingly, they used the US Navy tables for that data. PADI and NAUI wouldn't become much more common with recreational/sport divers until later in the decade of the 1990s.

@@thetimebombardier excuse me again but on watchobsession only normal nato or zulu type, none Paratrooper Strap Navy like yours in this video…..i’m so sad 😔
Nice work man
cheers dude and welcome to the channel :)
Hi - Nice Review - Got the original with my first pay pack back in Oz in 1989. Replaced it over the years with the newer JP's - only watch for my wrist till I drop. Have a question - I've had trouble getting these serviced now - Sent it to Citizen here in UK and got a reply saying they don't service these anymore.... any suggestion would be helpful.
Hey Iv - welcome to the channel and thanks for your comment - you're not the first mention that as it seems others have had the same issue 🤯🤯 really poor from citizen as they are not that long ago discontinued, any decent watch shops near you? (Not timpsons...)
We need the same with eco drive, saphir glass, and super titane ! And a smaller digital window like the original ones
Smaller date window? 😅🤣 please no my ageing eyes would give up lol
@@thetimebombardier who is watching the digital window anyway ahaha. We don’t care don’t we ?:) I am getting old too, so without my glasses in don’t see anything Ahaha but who cares. We don’t dive with these watches we just go to the beach :)
@@jeromef2001 yeah I say that often in my vids that i don't use date windows on my autos, but yes on my digis :)
how is that elastic nato working out for you ? I always though of picking one up....
hi thanks for stopping by :D and yeah really happy with it, it's more pliable than the eirkas, but the buckle on this model is quite chunky :D
Hey brother, great vid on this, my all time fav! I got mine at the PX directly after they came on scene. It was the only piece of kit that stayed with me through several yrs of special forces duty in the mid east and else-ware. Now, after all these yrs the hands started slowing down and stopping. I sent it out to a shop in Ohio, they came back w/ a quote of 650! WTF? Huge sentimental value, but I can't find anyone reputable to tune it up for me. Any thoughts?
Hey AHLC how goes it? Yup these are solid little watches!! Citizen here in the uk ain't great on these either despite them releasin some new colour variant 🤯🤯 what did they say was wrong with it? If it's just circuit boards or the movement might be cheaper just to replace the innards 😎😎 let me know how you get on 👍👍
I bought this beautiful watch back in 1999. I bought it for the aesthetics more than anything else, it lasted 22 years until it died, time to get another one, thankyou for the review, cheers
Hey Dilligaf thanks bud and i used to have a dilligaf sticker pn my car 😅😅 yup these aqualands seem to have been reborn, they've released the blue and brown and green dialers recently and think i need to get one in for review 😎✌️👍
@@thetimebombardier sounds great buddy. Cheers from sydney
A truly fantastic video. I’m in the market for one now. I’m really torn between the OG black dial or the LE green. New subscriber. 👊🏼👍
Hey Brummy thanks bud and welcome to the channel 😎👍 the new dial colours are cool and i was gonna get one but like you torn between the green or the blue 😅 still haven't decided LOL
Doesn't that big sensor at 9 o´clock make it really uncomfortable? Looks cool though....
if you wear it on your right wrist then yeah it might get in the way but don't you wear yours on your left? :D
I would really like to know who makes that band!
Hi JJ thanks for stopping by the channel and the band is an Erika's original :)
How many years will the CR2016 last this hour if I do not use its functions, depth gauge, stopwatch, alarm?
Hey Otto thanks and welcome to the channel mate 😎👍 i've been using this one on what i'd say normal and use and battery still solid after 3 years now 👍👍
Mine one year, with dephtgauge
Hi, what is the type nr of the an/digi one right above the JP with the digi part on the bottom of the dial ? Looks awesome.
Hey dude sorry not sure i get the question?
@@thetimebombardier Hi, I meant on the picture in the background, the watch with the digital display on the bottom of the dial, above the JP2000. You have the model number of that one ? Thanks.
@@flat4- thanks dude and sorry I lost that picture in a house move recently, really annoying as it was super vintage that I'd had for ages...!!!
Can you tell me what brand is the green strap? A copy of MN?
hey MR thanks bud and it's a hawkrigger strap and yes a sort of copy of the marine but with softer stretch, it's a fraction of the price of the erika's original but doesn't have the fixed fit of the erika, cheers
I really want to get this but does the depth gauge dig into your arm when you bend your wrist? It's the only thing stopping me from getting this watch, thanks in advance for any advice
Hey bud thanks for your comment and welcome tonthe channel 😎👍 i wear mine on my left wrist and have never had any dig in issues, the strap i use lifts the casebody up a fraction so that helps also 👍👍 best advice would be to try one in store or buy online to try it on wrist as you can still return if you're not convinced 👍😎
Where did you buy your strap to the citizen i cant find anyone anywhere :)
Hey Zindrax thanks for your comment and welcome to the channel bud, the strap is an erica's original 😎👍
Can you tell me the size of the rubber strao for the jp2000? Thanks
hey bud yup these are 24mils, cheers
Which Is the model of this type of nato? Thanks
Hey IG, welcome to the channel mate and the strap is an erica's original 😊🤙😎
I have one in need of repair. Is there ANYBODY who repairs the circuit boards on these? Enormous sentimental value to me.
Hi Tony, thanks for your comment and yes I can well imagine the value, I assume you've tried Citizen directly; where they able to help? also whereabouts in the world are you?
@macaco mack thanks Mack, have you dropped Tony a direct message? cheers
@macaco mack roger that :D thanks for stopping by the channel also!!

Why no eco drive?
hey sox I think when they released the orginal model that movement wasn't used that much by citizen, so they stuck to the original design with the re-release of this :D but yeah would be good if they had used it, i just bought the new Fugu and reviewed it and said the same thing why didn't they use the ecodrive!!! thanks for your view mate
hello where can i buy it;;;;;
hey spyros, you can try ebay or chrono24 or a simple google search will show several stores that still stock them :)
Where did u buy your strap?
Hey Zindrax thanks for stopping by the channel and that one is an erica's original 😎👍
Why is it so hard to find a citizen service center.....I need my aqualand looking at but not able to find a good service center
whereabouts in the world are you mate?
Pingo was just his code name
Cheers Jon, not heard that explanation before 👍😎 are you danish also?
어디서 구할수 있나요? 얼마인가요?
Sorry dude need that translated 😋😋
You can buy it on amazon , £330
It was a great watch with a terrible band. I replaced mine 5 times in 2 years.
cheers Patrick yup my marine nationale style strap is holding up way better also 😎
They should have made it solar
yup fair point, eco drive would have made it even better :)
How many years will the CR2016 last this hour if I do not use its functions, depth gauge, stopwatch, alarm?
Hey Otto thanks for your view and i've been using this now a few years without using dive functions and all good to date 😎👍
@@thetimebombardier Exactly how many years have you been using it?
@@ottohajnal2298 now 3 i think 😋👍
