- I present to you my 20022 Crochet Along - the WHOOPA CAL has now officially started! The full pattern is now available on Ravelry and on my website and here is the fifth tutorial out of 10 daily video tutorials I'll be doing during the CAL - where I show you start to finish how to make the cardigan. Today I show you how we make the ribbing on the sleeves and how to sew the sides and sleeves together, including my invisible join trick for when joining the sleeves
In this year's Crochet Along we will crochet my big cozy Whoopa cardigan together, and don't you worry, I'll be with you every step of the way! it's a 10 day CAL and I'll be doing daily video tutorials, where I break this fun and easy cardigan down into 10 parts and I'll crochet the cardigan along with you from start to finish! ... no need to do it in 10 days, but that is non the less a very manageable speed, I usually make mine in less than a week!
Now I know many of you shy away from making wearables, but then this here is definitely the place to start! It's all made in one piece and it's done in bulky yarn and on a 7 mm hook, so it works up crazy quick!
ok, are you you ready! who's with me!!!!? I for one am super psyched to get started!!!
pattern available on Ravelry

Slip stitching the ribbing to the sleeve end is pure genius. It’s so NEAT!
Thank you and please continue to show where things don't go to plan as in reality that is what happens in real life to all of us
wow love the way you sew it. My Whoopa! was all ready to be joined but I knew I had to wait for you showing your ingenius way of joining. Glad to see though that you have to try out some things too before getting the best result 🤩🥰
Happy to hear it helped ❤️
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar I Don't Think We Would Ever Lose Hope In You Tinna... Some Of Us Think Of You As A Teacher, Some Of Us Think Of You Like A Friend. Both Of Those Relationships Have Forgiveness Built In. 😂 Besides, We're Right There With You. I Chained The Wrong Amount For The Second Sleeve On My First Whoopa, Even Though I Read It Twice & Watched You Do It. 🤣
Another AMAZING from you!! I hate sewing due to being horrible at it, but this was enjoyable. Looks great and Thank You!!!!
Thanks for showing the seaming in detail. It’s the thing I dread the most with garments.
I know, me too 😉😂❤️
I had to put my Whoopa in time out because I couldn't get my seam right. But I rewatched and tried again and SUCCESS!! Thank you. Thank you for this technique!
Your work is always so beautiful! 😍 I just adore that particular colour too! I cannot wait to make this! Thank you so much for doing CALs for us. It is too late for me to make for hubby for the holidays, but as his birthday is in March I can begin making it in the new year for him. I cannot wait! Thanks again Tinna, your work is always incredibly beautiful, your videos so helpful, and just inspiring! ❤
Thank you so much ☺️ looking forward to seeing your take on it in the new year 🥰
Hey There Girl, I Just Made This Sweater In 4 Days. You Could Certainly Make This Before The Holidays! Believe In Yourself!!!
@@StarfireReborn normally I could, but we are doing all homemade gifts this year with the family so I am flat out with projects for Yule and Christmas, as well as 3 December birthdays, and 2 new family members due to arrive just before Christmas.
That is great you got it done in 4 hours! Way to go! And thanks for the heads up as I will be able to enjoy an afternoon of making it as a quick project after the holidays. I am just finishing Hubby’s Yule gift, the Queen CAL blanket. He has admired it for a long time. I am just starting the double border to enclose all the ends. And because it is just a simple basic stitch, that will be finished by the end of the weekend (so long as the weather improves so he is outside doing various jobs as I am working on it in secret). He came up with the idea last week that he would like me to make an ornament to attach to each gift as decoration to make the wrapping pretty…the man is killing me! So I have smiled sweetly and said “Sure, sounds great” 🤦♀️lol
I hope the person you made the sweater for loves it! ❤️
Love, LOVE the invisible join. I'm doing a multi-colour Whoopa with some Lopi I bought at an estate sale so have to use a different colour to join, but still love it!!
I've believed you from the start about the sleeves. lol. it's like a recipe, I do it exactly per the original recipe the first time. only then do I try my experiments. Now to watch the rest of the video. love from Canada!
I was laughing so hard with the running guilt stitch! Really dislike sewing pieces together, especially under the arms + sides because no matter how many times I count the correct number of stitches + place stitch markers every millimeter, I always end up fudging the seams!!!! rather than a master class on seams, I believe I need a master class in counting. ugh. all my giggling at your wonderful comments will inspire me to get thru the seaming.
Haha I know, the dreaded sewing … I can’t ducking believe I thought I had one stitch off … only to realise it had been correct BEFORE me fudging the other way ‼️🤦🏻♀️😂😂😂🙈🤷🏻♀️ and thanks for listening with the sleeves ❤️ I obviously wasn’t going to release a pattern without testing it and trying first 😉❤️
Love this Tinna! I'm now at the stage of sewing up the sleeves and sides for BOTH of the Whoopas I'm doing - one for me and one for hubby, at the same time. Your joining tricks are AWESOME - love how neat and tidy this is and I'm really pleased with the results so far... one sleeve done, 3 more to go. Cheers & Thanks! Judith 💜💚
Thanks you for all those details 🥰 and for your mistakes too! 😂 we learn much with them too: « look and do your best! « 😅😂🥰
I love the way you teach! You are so knowledgeable and I just love your laugh! You enjoy life and it shows! Thank you
😉😅😘
I skipped ahead to watch this to calm myself down about the sleeves (because I’m at the end of the first video and they look way too short for my dad…) and I’m so glad I did! I will stick to the pattern and trust you!
Hahahaha hallelujah!! Like this approach!! 😉❤️☺️🙌🏽💯
You Make Me Feel Like The Little Engine That Could 🚂 I think I can... I think I can... I think I can. You're the best Tinna ❤😎
Ahaha LOVE that!! And yes you can!!!! 😉🤸🏻♀️❤️❤️😘
Fantastic, that you engineered an “imperfection” (that wasn’t actually an imperfection, after all), just to create a scenario to demonstrate *problem-solving!* 😉
Tinna, thank you so much for these crochet alongs. I am not there yet but it feels my heart with so much joy to know that these videos are there when my time comes to do it.. God bless yoy.
Thank you ☺️ hope you take the plunge one day! The videos will stay up! ❤️
I’m having a blast making this cardi & also watching your tuts - it’s such a hoot!
Tinna, I will “dance crochet” with you any day! Great tutorial! ✌️❣️🧶
Ahaha niiiice ‼️❤️😅🤸🏻♀️
What a nice join. I would not have thought of the invisible join down the sleeve. Whoopa!!!
Thank you ☺️
Oh my gosh I'm dying 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 That part with the long sleeves had me cracking up. Tinna you sounded like a turkey gobbling. 🤭❤️ I've got my first sleeve and side sewn up. Onto the other side. Trying to finish by tomorrow so I can wear this to a crochet group and brag about how Tinna is a wonderful teacher ❤️❤️❤️
I LOVE the invisible join for a seam! My arm join is far from perfect looking (the stitches were wonky along the arm's edge) but I must say my side seam is impeccable! I confess to laziness for not fetching a measuring tape & while I have no idea exactly how long a football field is, this is likely the length I estimated you were measuring out. Poor grandmothers rolling over in their graves.
🙈🤣🤣🤣 poor grandmothers 🙈🤣🤣🤣 … nah but I think they’re proud of us though ❤️ making beautiful crochet pieces, I know mine are and I always feel them watching over me and are with me when I crochet and knot ❤️
Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Your designing detail amazes
Me! Thank you.
Thank you so much ❤️
Perfecto ❤️
🤩🤩🤩🤩 Ilike Thank you for the pattern very nice
I’m going forth and conquering this joining! I had to put on Seinfeld to do this. I was watching something else, but it took too much of my attention so I figured I better do what you do! Thanks for making this such a fun CAL!!!
Haha love this! ❤️
I trust you Tina. Great recipe.
Thank you ☺️
Lazy woman’s thread! Lol. WWGS?! What would Granny say? Lol.
🙈😂😂😂 … the big guilt thread 😂😂
Need MORE YARN!!! Thank you :)
Ellerini yıkamayı unutmusun🎉
Yeah🎉❤ Lol😂 I made mine 32 long on the sleeve, but my husband is extra tall and has long arms, hopefully it works out. 💕 Hoping to do the ribbing in a different color, your thoughts?
🙈😂 …. Yup, I made that first one for my husband, he’s 1.90 and it’s still too long for him. But let’s hope for the best! ❤️ I think different color ribbing will be very pretty ❤️
So exciting!!
This is a fun part! ❤️
I am not a fan of crochet ribbing (despite being a 50 year crocheter and a poor knitter). Has this pattern been tried with a knit rib?
Ah, now I learned i did it almost correctly.. i did the backloops but went back and forth instead of going from back to front every time.. o well.. it is joined and I am happy enough. Next time i will know… 😅
You can back and forth too!! It’s really a point of preference ❤️ that’s why I take care to say that this is just the way I do it, no one right way ❤️😘
@@TinnaThorudottirThorvaldar I know theres multiple ways that lead to Rome. Love your way and will certainly try next time
How should I adjust to make the cuff fit tighter?
Jhoehoeeee💃
Now I'm scared about the sleeves 😳...I made the long sleeves, and I'm 161cm...
😂😂😂 well, i made a specific point of noting that the sleeves are purposely short, in writing and in the videos! 🤷🏻♀️ … worst case you can gift it ❤️ or fold them up ❤️
I Made Longer Sleeves Because I Want That Drapey Sleeve Effect, And A Slimmer Body... But I Did Keep It To The 28 Rows Because My Inner Adult Won That Argument 😅
🧶❤️😍🥰😘👏👏👏👍
