Always knew there were Japanese schools in SG but never knew how it was like. Thanks for showing us Ghib!
Hope you enjoyed 😆
still got what others? i didn’t know got such schools here!
yup there's more! the most famous one is literally called - "The Japanese School". and ONLY affiliated expat japanese families can enrol. Their school is HUUUGE. With like big baseball fields etc.
Actually two Japanese schools
There are jp kindergartens too
Guys, if you'd like to experience what it's like inside the school, Waseda Shibuya Senior High holds a festival called "Seiransai" every year (if I'm not wrong, in Sep). In the past few years, it is usually held 1 month after Natsu Matsuri in Aug (at the Japanese Primary School). I've been to the festival a few times a few years ago and each class holds a themed room e.g. haunted house, cafe, etc. You get to learn a lot on Japanese culture, and also experience it!
Is it open to the public ?
@@bakkwa8705 i think need to buy tickets
@@bakkwa8705 yup need to buy tickets! Public can buy
japan also have the most best university in asia ,like tokyo university waseda university and more
@@c.rystalls Usually how much ah?
I have a very interesting story about this Shibuya 'Makuhari' (former name) High School back in the late 90s. I was a footballer and I used to study at ITE Dover. I had always wanted my school to play against Shibuya Makuhari. So one day, I went to Shibuya Makuhari and asked to meet the football team teacher in-charge. I told them I was sent over by my teacher (obviously I'm not!) and we wanted to challenge them to a friendly. As expected, the Japanese were just too nice; they accepted. After that, I went to my school team teacher in-charge, I told them the Japanese wanted to challenge us to a friendly! My teacher got hyped up, said, "alright, since they wanted, let's play them!" I could speak a little Japanese, so all translations came through me, nobody understood anything during that encounter. We played that friendly match in our school ITE Dover. Final score, 2-2. #FootballMemory #ShibuyaMakuhari
3:02: hahaha cracked me up! " do you really think I will go inside with my shoes? You may not realise but I'm Japanese."
penguinz0 is totally not about penguins
Thats why he is Ojisan
I've lived in the West for so long and I've always wondered since my school days how the Japanese high school looked like inside, thank you for sharing this precious experience. The classroom was totally Japanese, like how I've seen on dramas and anime! Their food look so healthy and good too.
Used to visit Waseda during 星蘭際 yearly. Very interesting. They transform their classroom into Haunted Houses, Maze, Maid Cafe, self made videos, etc for people to visit.
It's normal as they practice the same thing in Japan and it's fun due to us public are able to experience it
Thanks for this eye opening visit. As Singaporeans we are always curious what's inside international schools in Singapore. Solid content!
the teacher following you guys around is so cute!
He's amazing!
Nice tour! thank you!
ive lived nearby all my life and have always wanted to sneak in to see inside so thanks!!
Dun sneak go in when they have an open festival
Very interesting video, enjoyed it a lot. Thank you!
Wow..like again..eye opener..thank you..
Wow, an eye opener, thanks for the enlightenment Ghib san. 👍🏻👏🏻💯🅰️⭐️
One of my favourite videos of yours, it’s super funny (in an authentic way) yet informative. Love it! 😄
Yay, thank you! Its comment like this that keeps me driving!
Went to the seiransai few years ago. Quite a good experience there, very helpful students too.
What a lovely school! Also the canteen food looks so delicious and nutritious!! Thanks Ghib for showing us around :D
My pleasure!!
Great video. Never knew the school is that big. Wish the video is longer. Can u do other International schools? Like the CIS and the UWC etc
Nice video. If it's possible, look into home-stays and private dormitory life of Japanese students in Singapore. I used to be in the student accommodation industry. It's openly known, home-stay parents or private student dormitory operators usually prefer host Japanese students over other student nationalities. They've great reputation as superb student guests here. Thanks for this interesting video.
didn't even know such schools existed in Singapore thanks Ghib
omg their canteen food looks so amazing!! but also so expensive!! in my time i a meal cost less than $3 in school, but they're just basic local food
I live down the street n pass by the school almost daily for over 10 yrs but this is my first time seeing the school grounds, so thank you!
if you could do The Japanese School tour @ Upper Changi that would be amazing too!! I’ve always wondered what it’s like inside as well :) Thanks for this video Ghib! Definitely learnt a lot more as a Singaporean ☺️
More videos please ❤❤❤❤
so cool and cozy
Kinokuniya is the place in Singapore with the most Japanese books!!!
Very cute and interesting. Enjoy it.
Your campus is WOW !
I went for their school fair! Really amazing - the haunted house especially was incredible
Ohh haunted house is a must!!
They have a school fair!?
I mean, that's to be expected, but when?!
@@Wolfedge75 another person mentioned in september... he mentioned haunted house so imma assume its the same
@@Wolfedge75 seiransai . it's usually around sept period if my memory doesn't fails me. the open house on Sunday is open for public. don't try going on Saturdays unless you are in their community or their invited guests, you will be turned away.
I went to their school as and it technician and all of them were good and polite people
Went there for seiransai once but damn it looks so fun!!!!
Would love to experience their school life, wish I can film videos like this too hahaha
新鮮!面白かった!シンガポールにあるのは知ってたけど、本当にそのまま日本なんですね。こんな学生生活送れるなんて、羨ましい!頑張れ、海外の日本人!☺️
Really a good video !!! Have an increased knowledge how is it like in a Japanese school...
Another interesting episode by Ghib-san, our Singapore son-in-law👍
Omg i realy wanng go there!!! Finally i can see how the interior looks like!!!!
Omg! I’ve been here when I was in high school. Thy were having a Halloween party during my visit. I remembered the Japanese student were having difficult times showing us ard taking in English ..but we were patiently listened to them and be more understanding 😅 I love their uniform and those cute shoes! ❤ Didn’t see it here ~ anyways it was a fun experience❤
Lol. I think I just spotted my mom behind the canteen counter in the coffee break segment. 😅
i remember seeing the japanese school on the map, kinda wanted to see the inside. thannks for this video
I have mentioned to you about this school, and you finally get to visit it. 😊 I live opposite the school, and visited once when they have a ‘Singaporean Day’ event, interesting to speak to the students and see their curriculum.
I've been to their 星蘭際 once many years ago, and I was very amazed by them!!
so cool!!
WOW I literally live right beside this school. Didn’t know that it’s one of the top schools in Japan. 😮😮😮
Wow this was cool
I really 😂when I heard him say “Wah jippun lang!”
28yrs ago i went with my poly mates to this school for Bon Odori. Its nice to see the familiar stairs and railings.
Love that Ghib doesn't give chance and keeps teasing them 😂
Hi Ghib,, wow what a nice place to study,, really its like they are in japan,, 楽しいそ, oh later will tell my family about the suntory product,, thks Ghib,Huat Ah,, 👍😬
Udon always bring me back to my ohenro days in Kagawa, Takamatsu and Shodoshima.
nice, i did an exchange program for the students a long time ago.
haha, eating udon with rice is so Japanese!!! Double carbs; I always get so surprised. It's so cool that everyone is keeping Japanese traditions and culture in Singapore!
Their tradition and culture is good but not the working lifestyles the working lifestyles might overwork you if you can't get used to it
Oh that's near my house, I cycle past it sometimes.
Some of their students are my neighbors.
Different block but within 400 metres
Ghib, thanks for the awesome school tour!! Are all the classes taught in japanese?
i believe most are, except for the English classes!
3:32 I like this moment 😊
I visited Waseda many years ago with my Secondary school friends many years ago during their event/open house to the public. They have food shop open and live band that sing Japanese anime song. I still remembered talking to one Japanese girl in English regarding the theme they are presenting, but was ignored cutely. First rejection ever 😅
Either doesn’t speak english or didn’t find you cute enough 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Nice video
学費は予想通りの高額でしたが😅、日本の学校そのままでびっくりしました!
学食のメニューもおしゃれすぎるし、うどんや小鉢が羨ましいです。😂
Waseshibu!!!!! A lot of my teachers used to work there
Never knew we have such a school here in Singapore. :D
This video popped up randomly in my recommended. Am I the only non-Japanese and Singaporean watching this? The school looks nice and the food looks amazing.
Are there a lot of International Schools in Singapore?
12:08 The way that girl look at the guy seems like she was thinking ‘Really meh? Don’t wayang cause Ghib knows everything’😆
Very very interesting indeed..
"When you turn 30, you need those (escalator)" i didnt know i would get attack while watching a seemingly harmless youtube video :')
you should go to their seiransai!
Planning to!😁
Opposite my relative hse, located with all the landed at west coast side right. Beautiful sch
that young man is really interesting XD
Their school fees are a lot lower than top international schools but comparable with the average ones.
really toto!
I went to Qifa Primary which was close to the Singapore Japanese School (down the road from this school). We could see the baseball (clay?) type sports field from where we were and one of my most enduring childhood memories was seeing a lightning strike on the field during a particularly angry storm. I could feel the intense blinding energy from the flash of lightning arcing through the air, and the crack of the thunder was the loudest thing I’d ever heard. Scared the shoite out of me. Next day you could actually see a hole in the ground where the lighting struck (they put a little cone and tape cordon around it).
Since then I’ve had a healthy fear of walking long distances under overcast skies in relatively open areas that don’t have too many tall buildings around. I’ve had to chance it once or twice and could feel my hairs stand on end each time. One of the most foreboding feelings of impending doom. It’s right up there with tornadoes as the meteorological phenomena that causes the most primal fear.
$400 per month is quite hard since they have to buy breakfast, lunch and dinner themselves. Can they cook? The cheapest filling food in Singapore neighborhood is usually around $3.50. That would be $315 monthly. Since they have to eat lunch at school, it would cost more. Also, Set A for $8.50 is quite expensive for a school food
You need to consider that most international students are of the higher middle income bracket with parents working as expats. It is not a public school. International schools are like that
I thought so too! $400 per month means $13.33 per day if 100% spent on food (which is not realistic) and if lunch is already $8.50, Okashi-kun only has $4.83 for dinner & breakfast? Unless breakfast and dinner are provided by the dormitory.
Haha, as a Singaporean who took Japanese as third language in O and A levels, I also always wanted to go to Keio University. for exchange, but too bad NUS school terms and Japan school terms are not in sync.
interesting i always pass by and wonder what it's like inside
@3:00 LOL @ the "You may not know it but I am Japanese"
was going to say at first that $400 seemed like a pretty high allowance.. but those lunch prices are p steep!!
the toto! 😂😂😂 you got my LoL for real
they speak english very well
11:48 it was at this moment ghib finally realizes that he's old lol
Don’t call me old!!😬😬
Ah look so beautiful and cool school
👍🌷🤍❤️
Really nice campus! That guy following you around and filming was a little creepy 😂
I've been there a couple of times i love the environment too its really totally like im in japan ... hahahah... Loved the Japanese culture
Ghib San, u uncle already lah, how to compare your energy & speed with young students.
There needs to be a comparison, can you compare the costs of a International High School in Japan for non-Japanese?
I am surprised that Waseda Senior High School students need not wear school uniform in school. I saw one student who was even dressed in shorts. So, there is liberty despite uniformity to some extent for the students. On a seperate note, there is no need to teach them Singlish as they are not interacting with Singaporeans on a daily basis. The students are paying good money to learn proper English. Learning or speaking Singlish would dilute that value.
yeah they only wear uniforms in special occasions like the entrance ceremony etc
❤
wauu amazing singapore also a home of thousand malaysia people working cause they payment and salary so good laa so rich ,and if i hear in singapore have japan school ,and import from japan 100% i will surely living in there next year maybe if wanna sponsor ,let me know its hard to find kind people like that even i have big dream to living in japan one day cause japan is amazing ,they have they knowledge and polite culture so suitable for me as from malaysia ,also we country have good relation japan help use so much and we interest about them ,yaaa the power of culture maybe and i also like when look they style they life even not better like europe in asia is more good they have nice view montain view
Hey Ghib at 34 you are considered young and youth.
Just realised my son primary school also got japanese.
Take calcium and can help with bone density.
Cool
Tbh I lived in the west since I was born, I didn't know about this place 😂
I was expecting to change shoe at the entrance before entering like any schools in Japan
yep, they're quite localised!
Why do the kids attend Japanese school, is it cuz when they go back to Japan they can resume the regular Japanese curriculum? Or can you attend Japanese school and still get into US speaking universities?
Not easy for foreigners to enter public schools, and probably for the reasons you give.
Video say it is connected to a well known private university in Japan, grad from here high chance get into that Uni
someone please enlighten me. Why would international students live in a dorm if they are, very likely, in Singapore with their parents?
Students living in the dormitory lives alone in SG. Parents send them here cos Singapore is extremely safe and has a global environment, good for education 😁
maybe the parents in japan,,, or, if the parents in singapore, maybe they live far from the university,, thats why its convenient for the student to stay in d dorm,,
Most of the time, dormers will have parents in a third country (not Singapore and not Japan). I had a friend who's parents were based in a not so safe country.
@@tocino4 Exactly. When we were based in Penang for work, one of our Japanese friend's child was studying at Waseda High School in Singapore.
@@GhibOjisan I am a Singaporean living in the US. Ghib don’t be duped by the false propaganda their illusions of the fake safety generated by the SG government. The propaganda about education system is the biggest load of hyped croak ever. One day if you are free I can tell you in person. I’ll give you all the lowdown on the propaganda SG generates. It’s not only communist countries that produce propaganda that grip the boomers of SG. SG itself also produces propaganda !! It is understandable, as it’s a small tiny country and its survival depends on foreign investments. But sorry we quitters don’t want to ever be interviewed on camera
All hail our great leader Tamara Tetsuo
I wonder those staying in dom, what they do for dinner?
Canteen provides dinner! But weekends, they need to buy their own
@@GhibOjisan Thank you Ghib Ojisan for answering. You cleared a huge question mark for me that I don’t have to keep wondering 🤔 💭 ありがとう ❤️
be real being trending is so real 😭😭
The teaching staff behind holding with a camera follow quietly was hilarious 😆 he remind me of the secret police when I visited North Korea back in 2016.
hey i live in the condo near that
Im singaporean and i didnt even know abt this school 😭😭
35K per year is no joke. Company paid ?
Can u go to the one in the east? At upp changi north
That one I think primary school. Saw only small kids.
