First, a general suggestion: Hold the books you recommend right up to the camera so we can get a good, long close up look at the book. Say its name multiple times as you hold it up to the camera. You were breezing through everything so rapidly. Second: One of my favorite books on Orthodox Christianity is a book entitled Light from the Christian East. I forget who the author is, but it's a very concise and well organized introduction to Eastern Orthodoxy. Third: How about recommending UA-cam channels on Orthodox Christianity, like Trisagion Films, as well? Fourthly: It seems like you are suffering from nasal allergies. When I lived in Romania, an Orthodx country, in the springtime I would buy fresh Nettles at the open air market and cook them up with Lovage greens and green garlic. Not only were they delicious, but also nutritious and good for you - good for both arthritis and rheumatism as well as allergies, including nasal and respiratory allergies. You may not be able to find fresh Nettles where you live, but there are probably some herb stores that sell dried Nettle leaves - grind them up in an electric coffee grinder, take one to two teaspoons of the powder every day, and your allergies will decrease with time - it's also an herbal green superfood chock full of vintamins, minerals and other micro-nutrients.

What Orthodox Denomination would you recommend?

    • @SpencerSmithOrthodox

If you mean choosing a parish if your choices are between Greek, Orthodox Church in America, Antiochian, etc. I would recommend the one closest to you.

@@evan.5967 Orthodoxy doesn't have denominations. It has parishes.

@@eeaotly You are horribly mistaken, if not ignorant. While Orthodoxy is indeed characterized by its parishes, it's also important to acknowledge that within Orthodoxy there are various denominations or branches. These denominations, such as the Russian, Greek, Coptic, Ethiopian, Malanakra, and Syriac Orthodox Churches, represent different administrative jurisdictions with distinct traditions and practices.
Though, indeed, they all share a common belief in the Orthodox faith.

I bought most of these when I was Eastern Orthodox and still ended up leaving the Church for New Atheism.

That's unfortunate. What where you seeking from the Church? Where you attending a Church and consulting with a Spiritual Father? Forgive my questions but I can't tell from your statement.

Why do you need a prayer book?
Your pray needs to come from YOUR heart not from someone else's thoughts and in the Bible there are as well different prayers 🙏

    • @SpencerSmithOrthodox
      @SpencerSmithOrthodox  4 роки тому +27

The Book of Psalms is a prayer book. The fact that it's part of Bible seems to affirm that it's okay to use prayers written by others when you are having trouble finding the right words.

@@sssimplydave people that are mentally disabled need to hear the word of God and if they do believe the holy spirit will talk to them. Remember God didn't give people illness to suffer. Illness is a bloodline curs. To be honest I'm not Catholic nor Orthodox. I don't believe in they pagan ways. I'm a reborn Christian. In the Bible John baptized Jesus-
11 “I baptize you with[b] water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit and fire. 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”
Luke 3:16: "He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit…" Luke 3:22: "…and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove." ... Acts 1:4-5: …the Promise of the Father…"; …you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit…" Acts 2:1-4: "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages…"
For us we need to get baptize when we feel we (ready) close to God.
We will received the Holy Spirit that will gade us and then we will then starting speaking in tongues and some of us will have the power to heal people.

@@SpencerSmithOrthodox if you have trouble finding the right words you not contacted with God. Psalm 91 read that before you do your own prayer. Psalm 91 is a prayer on it's own, but you will feel more calm and believe me all the demonic spirits will leave your room. While you praying we all are under attack with demonic spirits. The devil doesn't want us to pray to God and he doesn't want our message to reach God.
You can also say before you do Bible study... Jesus protect me with your blood.
His blood is like a shield ♥️

Why do we need a prayer book or templated prayers?
James 4:3 (KJV) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
We might pray wrongly only by our words, that's all. That's why Church, The Body of Christ, teaches her flocks to pray, just like Christ teached His disciples how to pray.

When this guys wrote those books they was not just someone they were Saints in Christ, they had experiences with God, and with God wisdom they showed us ways to connect and come closer to Jesus, those are some valuable prays that Jesus havent found another guy like David, so thats why we respect a lot the Psalms of David, and we must read it everyday, because of how he was praising the Jesus, the way he was praying Jesus was surprised with David.
