RnBass do I need to learn how to play the piano to make beats cuz I wanna start making beats... or can teach myself
Ron. G Use the piano roll or just use samples for the melody/chords
Ya'll hear that? It took this man 30 something hours to make this beat. Dude didn't make this beat in 10 or 15 minutes or even a hour. 30 something hours son. To make ill beats you gotta spend some time. Yeah some beats you can make fast, but some beats might take you a long time. This man gonna be eating off this song for a long time.
30hrs seem long to a modern day fuck boy... That's not a big deal. Unless you was born in the 2000's #GTFOH
I am schocked that everyone here is schocked that it takes time to produce a beat.. other genre's it's like 30 hours minimum.
30 hours if your a beginner.
Put it a full decade and and you can do it in 4.
Noobs believe anything
So just let em believe shit its their choice
This Deputy guy seems like a cool dude. Refreshing to hear him say "yeah this took me like 30 hours" instead of the BS you hear someone like DJ Mustard say - yeah breh breh, created this tune in like 5.5 minutes, naww mean??
Spend time on yo' craft.
facts! cats be lying on time.
if mustard even actually produced it lmao
you should hear mustard's producing on rihanna - needed me. its really different from his other sounds
G Eazy If you check the single credits, DJ Mustard is not listed as the only producer. There's also Twice as Nice, Frank Dukes and Harrell. That's why it sounds so different as what you're hearing is probably just his clap and nothing else haha
When dudes say that they're usually referring to just the arrangement. You could open track after track and make a dope melody in minutes. It's going from the basic sequence to arranging and mixing that takes up all those other hours.
Add vocals and it gets even more complex.
songwriters must feel terrible man. Its like being a sidechick to a married nigga, FOREVER.
trueeeeeee ( 2chaninz voice )
And even if you are a massive producer, most people won't recognize you in the streets. So anonymity must be pretty cool too.
From start to finish.. one of the dopest pieces of production i've heard thus far. We gotta work !
Track listing made it seem like it was wondagurl, Travis Scott, and Kanye lol they literally added nothing
+b lol yea credits can be so misleading. Must be frustrating for the person who puts in the bulk of the work. Especially when they are a lesser known producer.
+b travis scott wrote most of it
No... Bebe Rhexa wrote it. Travis scott wasn't there.
+b Kanye suggested the bridge portion. That's where his credits come in.
+b how did travis scott produce this then? did he tweak the drums or write i don't understand why he is in the credits
Shit makes me want to delete all my flps bruh
+Yung Deeno lmao real
+Yung Deeno lmaoo
+Yung Deeno na keep going bro
#100
+Yung Deeno Why is that? It just takes a little trial and error to get better.
That was dope! A lot of people fail to realize there it much more to producing than just adding kicks and snares.
Ugh that piano part is so beautiful
@7:29 when he plays just the bass drum with the metallic percussion is awesome. hearing all the different 808 hits goes hard as fuck!!!
So what did Travis Scott, Kanye West, and Wondagirl do?
+Marvel Alexander That's what I was wondering... the beat is a lil different for the video clip though.. some switches here and there
Some people will pay for the name/title. Yup they can do that.
+Marvel Alexander From the homies I know that know them, Travis did drums, Kanye had something to do with the bridge and Wondagirl had something to do with the leads.
LMAO!!
@@franciscosalcido8951 he just said he did the lead. A lot of times ppl get or claim producer credit for simple suggestions or changes or even arrangement. It sucks but thats how it is. He pretty much did it all but slight changes that were made gave them all credit and Kuk Harrell got vocal production credit
I love hearing the behind the scenes. Props!
Them drums tho!!!!
Yo that piano at 5:30 sounds like the beginning of the Harry Potter theme..
#logicxgang !!!!

+Adel Ali Amen! We got some tutorials over here too ;)
+Adel Ali Logic X +1

c'mon, i don't need all that but 3:16
thx
Wow Rihanna really worked hard on this song
She's a performer.. that's her lane. ..it's not like she's ever trying to take credit for making the beats and writing the songs. So what's the problem?
That's how the music industry works. You think that an Al Pacino directs and writes the scripts of the roles he plays? Welcome to the real world.
onee actually, al Pacino had a lot of say while working on scar face
Well he's got you there guys...... shut your ass up.
She did tho, cause her voice make it amazing, BBHMM just the way she said it is dope
Crazy clippin in the DAW tho lol +17
Thought it was just me that noticed lol
+Chris Jayden well now the version is on 10.2 which is fixed and i didn't noticed much of it
+Chris Jayden hes just making sure its very very way more louder
+LilRD8718 clipping/loudness war!
+Chris Jayden dude must be doing something right though
So where tf did you give wondagurl, Kanye, and La flame credit?
I like the weirdness. It ads that unsettling feeling to the song. The beat gives if that predatory mood. It's nice.
Tbh that's how I feel when people owe me and just decide they gonna do as they please lol.
Doesn't have to be money either.
Damn that's crazy so Rihanna was really just there to say the already written words and take all the credit. Producers are the linemen of the music industry
Very cool. Lots of details I didn't catch
30 hours from start to finish... that's why it's dope... 5 minute beats are lazy.
You know what I DON'T like about these break down videos? These cats are just soloing tracks... The future producers aren't interested in hearing just the soloed tracks.
MAN!! EXPLAIN the the workflow, Talk about about the eq, compression, gate FX.. WHY are those elements in the track?? I come from an earlier time and the cats I mentor not only learn but get inspired by me showing them the way things were eq'd, sample edits etc... JUst food for thought... Track is dope a track period
Aka "Show me your process so I can copy it?"
Nah. That's why they do that. All that's gonna happen is people who don't explore their equipment are gonna just do what they saw these cats do. Another producer called me up RIGHT after he saw a video like this asking how he could replicate an entire signal chain he saw on screen.
These dudes bank on the little nuances that set them apart from the rest. You're basically asking them to give their shit away
LOL... bruh if you got that from my reaponse you may need to Google Me. I have over 22 Platinum Records among them Ice Cube's Death Certificate, the Friday Soundtrack, and many others! I am the Senior production / engineer at Viacom. I don't need to steal SHIT! I actually said what I said because young cats coming up NEED to understand the TECHNICAL SKILLS. Everyone is not gonna do a "Bitch Better Have My Money", but everyone WILL make records of some sort. How to Eq, how to compress, WHY certain elements are there isn't something to steal, its something to LEARN.
Rashad Coes
There are TONS of videos that break that down in detail. You've got guys out here doing 45 minute videos on just kick drums. The young dudes (overall) just aren't interested in those videos because they aren't interested in the art or the science of it. They just want that quick road map of how to get their beats banging good enough to get their ass out of having to put in any real work. I got cats every day asking me entry-level EQ and compression questions but somehow they've managed to get the entire Waves Bundle loaded up on their computers. lmao
Anyway, your mistake was you thought i was specifically citing YOU as the culprit of what I was describing; I'm speaking the overall scope of the production scene, and the music scene in general. The bulk of these dudes can't even differentiate beatmaking from production. I can't tell you how many times I've had guys ask "How can i do this like Kanye?" "Send me So and So's drums" etc etc. Learning what things are and what they do is the easy part....or I should say, the "easier" part....but these new cats barely wanna do that let alone let their creativity have them think outside the box. And i'm not that guy who's hating on the young cats....I just have a lack of respect for an intentional circumvention of knowledge. I'm rooting for the cats who REALLY want that knowledge...the ones who want to make their own sounds...separate themselves from the pack. I'll do without the ones just looking to be the next clone of whoever's hot today because they want some quick cash.
You replied to my comment so I assumed the comment was directed at me. IF that isn't the case my apologies.
But yes, I completely agree and understand how ignorant the new breed of beat maker / composer is. I have since adopted a policy of not mixing projects until they come to me properly edited and labelled.
The rest can't be taught.
Rashad Coes
Congrats on all success by the way. I'm all for that life.
Man thats craazy
All you music programmers or producers out there take notes on the individuality and creativity as it pertains to creating that sound. This guy hit his stride. ☆
You really get to appreciate the beat once you see the breakdown. Props man!!
I like when those meter get reds as hell…...
Thats y J Dilla had to make a song about that exact thing! "Yall niggas must be out of ur head if ur systems not turned up to the red!
that means shit is peaking and thats bad lmfao
Daniel F. exactly !!!! finally !
maybe you were being sarcastic, but i mean, i think its acceptable for beat to clip right there, because he aint mastered it yet
Daniel F. red = wrong = loosing info
I'm a bonafided "beat enthusiast", and this beat is one of my favorites in today's market (alone with Beyonce's Partition). However, it's crazy to me how some producers construct their beats with a SHIT LOAD of sounds, layers and elements - and then there are those other producers (like Jake One) who rarely use more than 6-7 sounds in his beats, yet he's an award winning producer. I know everyone has their own style of beatmaking, but I tend to be more impressed by those who create dope beats with less tracks because that kind of creativeness fuels me. This beat is track-heavy, but it's dope af... I still think Jake One would have made this same beat with 5 tracks though, LOL.
+ViXenBeats You make an interesting point here man.
+ViXenBeats JakeOne is the man.
CahlajWasHere I love JakeOne! Jake and S1 are my absolute favorites in the game today... those guys are THE Truth!!!
d
Daniel Mizrahi No, not in ALL his beats. I've seen quite a few of his beat making videos, and he has made some original beats (6-7 tracks total) using only his own creativeness - no sampling at all. I'm not knocking this or any other producers style of creating (IJS), "I" tend to be more impressed by those that use less. I still think this beat is dope though.
Dude look like a myPlayer in 2k.
Are we really suppose to listen for "that sound" in every beat ever made, from now on?
+love4music8 He's just saying that's his new tag. Like "Mikewillmadeit" or "Mustard on tha beat"
+love4music8
that sound of His can be done by 5 yo kid having Ableton in front of him with beat repeat loaded. nothing unique about it.
all in all you shouldn't trust a guy ever which's clipping like this on every track.
"I didn't want to do the trap hi hats" That's a trap ROLL, fam.
so many layers, yet doesnt sound too busy. A mark of a great producer
Lol, he making damn sure not to click on the track and show what kind of instrument it is. No one is going to steal your talent just because they know what kind of synth you used.
Thats why some talented person who creates his/her whole song doesn't get record deals nor get what they deserves. MUSIC INDUSTRY
Very impressive. It gives me hope for music's future having someone as thorough as this in the music industry. It still isn't matched by Rihanna in any way, but that is my fault! lol! I've always appreciated the endless hours of work that goes into a well rounded track more than the few takes a celebrity gives in between partying & dressing up!!
A lot of time goes into these tracks. You can just tell. The world needs to start appreciating producers of this kind. Not the ones who brag a hit in 5 minutes using presets & 0 creativity. But us produkes who live the sounds. And let me tell you.. I've been makin' music for over 10 years, & I never needed any recognition. I have barely 100 subs. But that doesn't mean I love the game any less.
People need to listen to the music, & decide for themselves. Rather than lettin' popularity & trend dictate whether a producer like myself deserves to live like a peasant so that he has more time for music, than money for a life. A family. A house. I gave it all up, for the love of music. Peace to the dreamers.
Like you lot are telling a producer his shit's clipping, sit down.
I think its funny
Tom Harvey lol he just made the beat hopefully he didn't mix and master 😂
Dope guy
Sonically, it's an amazing song. Great sounds throughout.
great great producer. I am very impressed.
I quite don't like that song... nor the beat... rubs on me the wrong way but that guy looks very cool and down to earth. Well done
Why comment ? Lol
+getmajor Cause i still had something positive to say.
+Alexis Roy what a great answer
+Eric Barnett II :) thanks
+Alexis Roy yeah I thought the same thing
Great producer and the track is awesome, His signature sound had me like WTF is that sound that shit is dope lol!
Gladiator vst - Fortune Wheel. Your welcome
definitely one of my favorite songs of 2015 and I´m not a huge rihanna fan ! great work man
He said 30 hours like that was a lot... Music has changed so much. *DOPE RECORD THOUGH*
Clipping like a mf
+Rafon doesn't sound distorted tho, obviously the final mix isn't running that far in the red
+Barney W Logic like most daws have +6db before you digitally distort.
+Rafon I think It's the way pro guys make their tracks so loud- they just clip the converter, they dont use limiters
clipping is tight
garageband just clips a whole lot period..hah sometimes i feel it's a bug. the sound is always alright though if mixed well and converted to a separate final mix.
It’s good to see the person behind this my favorite Rihanna song....I love how hard this song is. So much grit.
Nigga you get too different you'll loose the beat
30 hours bredren?!......ffffffFUCK ...sculpting sOunds, mixing, automation, plugin surfing, listening sessions?
basically yes. You see how many tracks were in there? Big jump from sequencing...which can take 15-30 min, to polishing the whole song, which can take hours, days, or even weeks.
you make music ?
Henri-michel Ochoumare yup
I think the industry itself has all of us confused.. where producers has made us believe that 5 minute beats and 30 minute beats have made hits.. this adds relief to me.. making beats in just about the same hours.. dividing it into a number of days
Had to come back to this. The record was big but the beat sounds huuuuuuge. 🔥
🔥
so what exactly did wondagirl do
Pro Tools lol overrated DAW. Logic x, Cubase Pro and FL 12 is the shit
+Frisson why not ableton?
LilRD8718 don't talk to me about Ableton lol i can't stand that. even removed it from my mac. i don't like the interface, sounds, they way it is.. just not for me.
***** yeah i really like the new look on FL 12, just waiting for the final built for mac version, i don't like Ableton interface look.
***** i didn't like Studio one lol just not for me
Studio One. Nuff said!
Yooooo I want to work with u!! i was like who produced this shit! U killed this
dope. thanks for sharing
he didn't make this himself, Travis Scott, wondagurl helped aswell
Love original creative production and producers.. HATS OFF
wow! all this time i thought you were an affiliate producer for rihanna , but you are just spontaneous , but either way did GREAT! i first heard song on radio
love the steel drum sound with the 808 drum kit! One of my favourite songs. Im curious how many instruments did you use?
Your talented producer pushe is working on all new artist to make albums and singles like it artwork for beats
That sounds so X files and mysterious and boom the fucking hook drops 🔥
Fuck there so casual with there genius... Fucking so creative.
wow. so much talent. and its crazy because people think it's all noise and rah rah music but this is so unique
his phone blowing up thru the first part of the video
Ear candy, you feel it you don't really hear it. dope 6:34
4.31 TO 4.35
man i would delete this sound if had this on my computer but he used it !
thats why we call em !
SUPER PRODUCERS
I'MT IRED OF STUTTER BEATS.....THAT DRUM N BASS BULL...CRAP.
Dope, I know how hard it is to create a masterpiece, I commend you for your hard work efforts and being honest about the time you put into it!
6:41 mmarimba sound very very famous sound
INTRO MUSIC please ?
Called Tinashe Checks In
StateTrooper thank you mate
I wanna hear the reference track. someone please leak that shit
Great instrument for a child to start learning music. That steel drum does something for the soul.
that beat is too crazy
sound like main Godfather theme
what's the name of intro song?
+MinHyung Lee tinashe checks in by dj mustard
+MinHyung Lee Check's In by DJ Mustard, Produced by Deputy.
How he do that lol it’s so amazing great ears
Clipping as fuck, put a limiter in this shit mf haha
nice beat tho
How many hits you got homie? Yeah i'll wait.... You still in the basement with your perfect mixed crap beats. While this man is paid from a huge hit he made for Rhianna. Holla!!!
Is that all that matters these days? Getting paid? Its sad that we live in a world where commercial success is respected more than artistic success.
everybody on protools...Amma get cubase see wut I Do on dat
whats the back ground track called
Where is BB? Can I listen to her songs?
beats normally take me a week because i do not know what i'm doing , but takes me 1 day or less when i am making beat while watching tutorial
but good news: i do not want to pay attention to effects , strings , so-on i see in software tutorial , i only pay attention to if i hear all sounds clearly that i have in music i make
fl studio ram can distort when too much channels , effects are placed there
so as soon as i play music i make i save to wav file or mp3 then start brand new project then import mp3 or wav file i made , helps fl to not distort , then i do what ever else then follow same process then save as wav file or mp3 then start new project
👍
its funny that you don't hear a lot of it in the mix
I love weirdo musicians 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Why is his master clipping? :0
probably not the mixed version
It's probably just the kicks. A lot of producers don't put limiters on to keep the kicks clipping so they sound harder. it probably got mastered after Rihanna got on it though.
+Split BallaH kicks and other elements he wanted to tastefully clip lol
Eric R gritty and distorted bass can knock nicely when tastefully clipping lol
What program was used?
yeaahhhh sick! When I first heard it I thought this's something else
who is that girl where he focus on ? can i find her somewhere?...find her!!!
at 1:50
Does anyone create the piano melody before starting on drums?
I do I Like to find a cool melody before the drums
Yo this is truly some remarkable work from a song that I got tired of hearing because it played all the time but I can now appreciate it again.
THAT OUTRO! NOTHING LIKE IT ON THE RADIO! PROPS FOR DOING YOUR OWN THING AND NOT MIMICKING THESE SAUCELESS PEOPLE
What's the beat in the intro? Straight fire!!!!
That outro was so badass
🔥 make sure to subscribe
Fun is the magic, just having fun flowing and no thinking. Seems like all the cool song are made out of pure fun, flow and some random "coincidence, Love it 😊
guessing this is the unmastered version since his db meter is in red for most of the time
+Anon 0 everyone seems tobe getting pissed bout that on here lol
Make sure you hear him carefully. 30 hours for ONE beat...a masterpiece takes time to get just right.
whats the music or song playing at the beginning when he was talking?
idk if you ever found it but I'm trying to find it too. I know the song had eric bellinger in it but that's as much as I remember.
I do beats and I got some heat for Rihanna, too. And for Kendrick, and J. Cole... I do all kind of music.
I'm trying to get more exposure. I appreciate y'all for stopping by on my channel
🙏💯🔥🙏💯
Great insight. Thanks!
The guy makes a great musician but if this is the final version of the song on Logic Pro X the guy surely needs to learn some mixing and mastering jeez
What was the daw he said he used after logic.... heard something like ebertion???? idk
ableton www.ableton.com/en/
thx
