This is an awesome Betta *Crowd cheers* From Borneo and I'm gonna tell you about their habitat loss and destruction *sobbing, wailing, keening* All of these waterways are also used for palm oil plantation and logging barges right? From what I remember they were dredging out these smaller waterways to allow larger boats through and that was another big issue in Borneo.
My goodness, they are gorgeous! Love how different they are from other Bettas I've seen, let alone kept! I am really happy to hear that they seem to be possible to breed in captivity, both for the protection of the species and for us nerds! Maybe in a few years I can get my hands one them too - thank you so much for this awesome video!
100% lawerance kent travels the world for work, so he got 4 of them and all 4 survive the trip home, so i just lucked out that he had a pair to kindly give me. So im gonna do my best to spawn them...since the odds theyll exist in the wild within 10 years is very very slim.
@@Fishtory I'll be rooting for you! I am in Denmark, and I used to have great sources for all things labyrinth and L numbers fairly close by, but I've been out of the hobby for almost a decade, so I don't even know if they are still active. It's going to be interesting to get back into the swing of things. My first try at breeding this time around will be nothing like those, but the cute Microrasbora erythromicron. I really have a soft spot for them, and it looks doable with what I can offer them. Let's go!

A month ago we purchased a “baby Girl” betta from Petsmart for $2.99 She has freckles on her fins and resembles wild varieties.. she has one red eye and changes from pink to grey to blue depending on the light or her mood.. she look just like your male.
Very interesting. The only fish I kept that sucked snails right out of their shells was a breeding pair of Paradise Fish I had back around the turn of the century.
The more I learn about beta-the more I love ❤️ them. I only have one tiny baby blue elephant ear beta I purchased because he looked miserable in that cup. I love their grouchy face 🥰… I’m so excited to learn about the different variety’s but saddened to hear that they are failing to thrive in the wild because of “progress “ .. I’m trying to figure out how to add a beta fish to some of my community style tanks.. and also make a heavy planted sorority tank … I love betas❤
I've been working with channoides melak for a few years. Gorgeous, peaceful, easy breeding little water slugs. I let the males release their fry into a mat of floating riccia fluitans I check daily when they're holding. Breeding is amazing - the game they play with their eggs is incredible. I have some good clips of it if you're interested.
These guys are so interesting! I hope they will give you some offspring if that's what you're looking for. I'm so glad you refer to them as Bet--tah and not Bay-dah. I don't know why it bothers me so much when people say bay-dah! LOL
If you breed/sell any, I'm happy to purchase 😊. I have stable blonde endlers with "snake skin" like dorsal fins. Happy to send some over if you'd like. Great iridescent strain.
I have unimaculata ocellata from malinau region, they are awesome fish, mine spawned twice before I lost my female, they are excellent and accurate jumpers, if you ever come to around the Raliegh NC area, I would love to give you a few juveniles
@@Fishtory me too! I hope when I’m more experienced that I might play a small part in that. It would nice t9 be part of the so,union, to feel less hopeless.
I'm curious about both types of your tank stands, the flat steel and tubular steel. I'm paranoid and wouldn't trust the flat steel with the weight that some of these folks put on, especially the shearing of the pins. Now the tubular ones make me cautious as well due to all the weigh being held back by a 1/16th of an inch (or less) of plastic held in shallow grooves. I have had a collar slip on regular storage, not a dynamic load of water. Would a set of hose clamps even help if one or more of those plastic groves melt or deform? Interested in your observations and suggestions.
Yeah i just only put 20s, 10s and 5s on them...only on the front or 20L across the width...then i bought 1/2inch boat plywood that is soaked in 6 criss crossed graines of wood and apoxy... and tossed the crappy composit chip board shelfs it came with...also i ran a bolt diagonally across 2 corners alternating sides, so even if the little lip fails its sitting on a welded bolt on 2 corners
I have a video called "dont just cycle your tank, creating an ecosystem in your aquarium" ... it lays the ground work, but mostly it takes time and patience. Or getting healthy tank water from an old planted tank
If I got a pair eventually…want to successful first with my Sonoran tank, and bred them would it be appropriate to sell to our wonderful small not big box store? Very tentative in this, but I’d like to help.
How does a bette fish have a Latin name? Borneo is no where Europe, but it gets a Latin name even though it already had a name from the land which it came from
@@sharonkaczorowski8690 personally I don't think there are to many people I do think that we are to spread out and we are using our resources very un-efficiently if all humans lived in green cities and we all switched to a plant based diet things would be better for earth and its life

Was gonna say they reminded me of Channa a bit, then you mentioned the same. 😊 They have huge mouths. Very cool.
Right? They strike like a bass when theyre attacking live food. I was hoping they'd do it to the blood worms lol. But theyre pretty cool looking
Alex W, thanks for taking time for sharing your video. I've got so many amazing info and use it practically in my hobby.

You are so very welcome! Im just grateful you find my content of interest, like i do! Have an awesome week, my friend!
Well done, love how you dive deeper than preferred parameters and location and into the history and details of their ecosystem 🙌
Thanks my friend. It means a lot to me, that you enjoy that info also.
Very educational experience.
Thanks for sharing with us all.
Keep up the awesome work
Thank you kindly. Im glad you like the extra images and research ive been trying to represent visually in a lot of my videos
A very useful video! Thank you for sharing these fish with us.😊
Sure thing. Im glad you enjoyed it!
Noooooo this is so sad 😢 bettas have a special place in my heart 🌻
Whats sad though? Their little tank? Theyre just growing out in it
@@Fishtoryno not your tank, the tank looked great 👍 - I was bemoaning the decline of wild betta fish population 😂 apologies for the confusion

Cool. It could be a wild betta splendens, or betta mahachaiensis hynrid that got mixed up

Awesome information! I love these species information videos!
Keep a diary on these fish so you can go back to look at it from time to time, and lots of pics.
Then you can write a book about them.
Yeah honestly, there is very little about them online or in books. So even if i just wrote an article, i think it would be helpful
Top notch content... loved it😊😊😊

Question, do you have a video explaining pros & cons of having a gravel substrate?

I’m so upset…every animal I look at seems to be endangered. It’s heartbreaking. Well I hope the hobby can save these incredibly beautiful fish.
I know, i just hope that with fish, at least a lot of normal people can breed and keep them alive...unlike the larger animals or plants

Found a pair for $75 on wild exotic Bettas…
Totally
Thats a great deal!
Where the name of the Betta Unimaculata came from , the same black spot .
How big is your tank set up for them
Now they're in a 20 long
❤
They’re like tiny snake heads also can these species able to breed with other betta species
What pH is suitable for these wild Bettas
4-7.4 they love acidic soft water with tannins
Where can I purchase some of these
Maybe the wet spot in Portland or one of the black water botanical websites? It may be hard to find them though
What is the code for redfish bluefish?
No code sadly, just a trusted source of fish from europe
why no tannins with your wild bettas
Soo, can we buy some?
If they spawn, yes
😅
aint no way im getting rare fish market videos ☠️
How does a bette fish have a Latin name? Borneo is no where Europe, but it gets a Latin name even though it already had a name from the land which it came from
Betta IS its "latin genus name"
All animals are registered by a latin name and have been doing that since Carl von Linné started doing that back in the 1700’s.
Why on earth (or Borneo) do they want to move their capital into the jungle?
Good question... there's reasons...but theyre stupid.. 1 is traffic
Palm farming 🤬
Boycott!
And road building and farming of all kinds and too many people in Mother Earth and most all greed.
