Weird but several years ago I met him in the men’s restroom during his gig at Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles. As I’m washing my hands I see in mirror that He comes out of the stall and waits behind me. I was about to shake his hand, and, he, realizing we are in restroom, does a fist bump instead. As I was leaving I asked if he could play “Master and a Hound.” He said “I’ll see what I can do.” Later he played it and it was my first time hearing that song live. This song permeates every fiber of my being. One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs I’ve ever heard.
After falling in love with Gregory years ago...and this song...I can imagine nothing more artistic and beautiful than receiving a snow globe from San Francisco. He’s literally the best thing that ever happened to me.
One of the top 5 greatest songs ever written in any genre. He understates the song by saying it’s a song about a snow globe. It’s really a song about coming to terms with the relationship his father as he was dying.
I wept tears of joy and sadness seeing him perform this at the now defunct Woods venue in Portland circa 2010. You could hear a pin drop. The venue was an old funeral parlor with creaky wood.
@@LordCumquat oh nooo, he had his first Australian tour in March this year. He went to every city, and tho I doubt he'll be around Aus soon again, be sure not to miss it for his next album. It was amazing..
Where were you when I was still kind Just a water treader Waiting on the line Just a dry gin drinker Master and a hound Turned a circus swinger Look, he's coming down... Down Can you shake it up Just once for me Your little globe just so we can see The snow blowing round your hands And the wing-nut turned The song that we both know Sent us flying round the carnival You can throw all your lucky coins on me On me

Brilliant
Your last two sentences are "The Stable Song" to me.
"This song permeates every fiber of my being" - always feel the same with most of his songs. He makes magical music.
Imagine hearing this song for the first time live in that audience? A life changer.
Absolutely.
It’s crazy how his voice just as amazing off-record. a voice like that is hard to find.

Where were you when I was still kind
Just a water treader
Waiting on the line
Just a dry gin drinker
Master and a hound
Turned a circus swinger
Look, he's coming down...
Down
Can you shake it up
Just once for me
Your little globe just so we can see
The snow blowing round your hands
And the wing-nut turned
The song that we both know
Sent us flying round the carnival
You can throw all your lucky coins on me
On me
That single clap at the end
