- Spathodea campanulata, the African Tulip Tree is indigenous to tropical Africa. It is found as an ornamental tree in parks and along streets of Bangalore, highly appreciated by a number of birds, which feed on the nectar of its „tulips“ as well as on insects trapped in those orange chalices. A sip of rainwater or dew from the flowers makes a welcome morning drink too. The tree’s soft wood makes it popular with cave breeders like Barbets and Woodpeckers.

It's a tropical tree, which needs high temperatures. So, unless you have visited tropical regions you're probably not familiar with it. It keeps blooming for at least 2 months and the big seed pods are favoured by squirrels and parkeets. Guten Morgen liebe Ma. Was für ein super schöner rotblühender Baum. Sowas liebe ich besonders. Bei uns gibt es sie eigentlich nicht. Vielleicht in botanischen Gärten aber in freier Natur oder Gärten habe ich noch keinen solchen Baum gesehen. Magnolien ähneln ihm, haben aber größere Blüten. Schöne Aufnahmen von den Blüten und den verschiedenen Vogelarten welche genüßlich am Nektar laben. Es grüßt dich der Walter.👍

Ornitho- und Streifenhörnologische Beobachtungen an einem Baum voller wunderschöner Tulpen. Hier wird ja die Magnolie auch gern als Tulpenbaum bezeichnet. Aber Deiner ist ja viel schöner .... lieben Gruß aus der beginnenden Kälte... LG
Ich liebe Magnolien (habe ein Foto davon an der Tür, um mir ewigen Frühling vorzugaukeln), von daher kann ich nicht "schöner" sagen. Aber größer ist dieser Tulpenbaum allemal (bis zu 25 Meter hoch), er blüht länger (von Ende August bis November/Dezember, je nach Witterung) und es ist mehr los in Geäst und Stamm. Der Baum und ich, wir mögen's warm und vogelig, da blühen wir auf... aber heute lassen wir bei 21° die triefnassen Blätter hängen. Kein Vogel in Sicht und ich könnte ohne Weiteres wieder unter die Bettdecke krabbeln. Ich wünsche dir mehr Sonnenschein und ein schönes Wochenende, lieber Naut!🧡💚Ma

Klar, wenn Insekten und Vögel es nicht mehr schaffen, die Blüten zu bestäuben, muss auch das Hörnchen mitarbeiten.

Genau: Insekten ersaufen in Kelchen und können nicht weiter zu welchen. Dienen auf diese Weise manchen Vögeln als Speise, die sich in Blüten versenken und nicht an Bestäubungen denken. Wie gut dass wir die Hörnchen haben, die sich an Tulpennektar laben! Und wie schön, dass es den lieben Tino gibt, der auf all das aufmerksam macht. Danke! und schönes Wochenende!💚Ma
