must be lovely sitting there with a glass of wine on a sunny day watching them all , i have 2 cockatiels and 2 love birds and i know how satisfying it is watching them do there own little things
This is the way birds should be kept, not in those puny little cages that pet stores sell. How do we make this the norm for all pet birds? That would be my wish!
I live in Utah. The hogle zoo has an indoor area with free flight birds. But... I suppose they are an AZA facility and they have millions that they can spend on that kind of thing.
I live in Ireland and I have a couple of heat lamps in the outdoor parts of my avairy which are only open to them on warm days, they choose to sit near the heat lamps on cold day's.i don't leave them go in it all the time as I don't want nest s built out there...even on a cold day I'll let them out only if I can stay with them for exercise, they love it ...do all you can for ur bird it's the least we can do..
W♥️W!!! Your aviary has everything. Do you throw grit in the dirt for them to get naturally? Where do the quail sleep since they aren't using their house on the ground? The thoughtfulness & way you notice what they like (such as the bird always looking for a higher roost) is extraordinary. I'm about to convert a giant parrot cage to an indoor aviary like this. I'll need a grow light. This makes birds so happy & that happiness is contagious to watch!
It looks quite clean, I see you are north enough to have kikikuyu and I think it grow copes well with the birds, it's regeneration means you have a plant can break down waste quickly, so it cannot become a breeding ground for disease.
What about rats and mice do you have a problem with them , I had to put sheet metal around my aviary to stop the mice from getting in , the little buggars can squeeze through the 10 mm square mesh and my dog killed a couple of rats in our yard don’t know where they came from but they have gone now , love your aviary a magnificent structure you could sit in there with a cup of coffee and just relax , all the best from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
Looks great! I've been wanting to build an aviary like this, where you let nature takes care of the bird droppings. I was wondering how you attached the walls to the ground? I am concerned with rodent invasion so I thought of applying wired mesh underground.
AWESOME!!! Does it ever get too cold for them? Or do you ever need to bring them all inside? I guess you can only do this if you live in a certain climate. Or can use only for summer. I wouldn't want a bird unless I could give them a huge enclosure like this.
Bridgette Ignatova They always stay outside. It doesn't get very cold here, it never snows or anything like that. The lowest daytime high we have ever had is 9°C and the lowest temp ever around 0°C, but the cold temps only last for an hour or 2. Thanks for watching.
Gael Fletcher Princess Parrots are beautiful creatures and I have thought about getting a pair before. I am currently building an aviary at the moment for a Galah. Thanks for watching.
Very nice aviary, do you worry about predators biting the legs from the birds when they are sitting on the wire? I have seen aviaries with double fencing for this reason. I have heard stories where the birds feet were biting off.
Thanks very much for your replies. If I may some more: I will be building something similar to yours and leaning towards a dirt floor for the same reason you mention, it is much more natural. I have however been advised to use a concrete slab and put a bit of dirt on their to avoid diseases and worms. I live in Brisbane where it is not as wet as NZ, speaking from experience :-0) Love to hear your thoughts. Thanks again. Bert
Not sure on that one... Australia has a lot more "nasty" things than NZ than could burrow into the cage, and a lot more parasites than NZ. Another method is to put down mesh under some dirt so you stop burrowing predators while keeping the natural soil systems functioning. Wish I could be more help, and good luck.
Brilliant Vid mate well impressed with your set up, and mixture of birds i live in the UK east coast, and get lots of problems with mice and rats, so have to have concrete base and traps, and 1.7 pellet gun, all the best to you from the UK and keep it going
I was hoping it would talk more about construction. How are the studs connected to the roof and what is the bottom of the walls relationship to the ground.
Sorry, I don't know how I missed this question. The aviary is approx 8m x 4m with a height ranging from around 2 to 2.5m. There are no snakes in New Zealand. Sorry again for the (super) late reply.
If you are going to have birds, I think this is the best way to do it if you can afford it. I think birds should be allowed to fly and be given room to do so.
TheForsakenSailor Yes I have, and hopefully one day I will get the time to do it. I have thought of many cool ways to do it, but I do have concerns about how I will keep it clean. Thanks for watching.
@@CockatielCompanion thats a BIG time job if you hav a pond. The water gets stagnated. No doubt it would b a BEAUTIFUL idea. A bathing area for all these loveables of yrs amongst all d greneery.... otherwise its very WONDERFUL the way it is now.
Hi, The size of the openings on our mesh are 19mm and the wire is 16gauge (I think), which is about 1.25mm or 0.050inch. I don't have any parrots as large as an Amazon, but I would definitely go for a larger gauge of at least 14, but preferably around 12 (2mm). Cheers.
Hi there , i liked your setup very much , i am making one for my self at rooftop a 14x30 feet area with 11 feet height , weather here is mostly sunny , anything you would recommend me to follow ?
Yes they are Ok over winter where I live, but they won't be in other climates. Today is the coldest day we have had this year. Light frost yesterday and today. It does not snow here.
hey!! it's so so sooooooo nice to have ur birds in such a great aviary. could u tell me what plants u used in the aviary coz I have many birds at my home tho they fly free, I am afraid to plant green at home as my birds eat whatsoever green they see. and also I am scared of bugs and other insects that in ground in green as they are hand breed lives idk if they will suit the insect and stuff it sort of freaks me out kindly help me with the list of plants that are okay with small parrots and can be used as garden decor plants also. plz I'm looking forward to ur reply! p.s. love your aviary!!
A lot of the plants in the aviary are palms, they don't seem to get destroyed by birds as much as most other plants. Where do you live? As that will determine which plants you can grow.
Caryotagigas Birds Animals Palms I live in India. and I own many many cockatiels. all are hand breed... kindly recommend what plants could I use for an open garden that won't harm my babies... thnks

best natural bird home i like it 👌👍
I love how you made it look natural. Having grass in the cage is good for the birds they eat it. Very cool ⭐
Surreal and sq ft, also height?
great job and video dear tennessa.I like aviary work.

Esther Kelly It is my wish too! Thanks for watching and spread the word about decent environment cages for birds.
Nice spot to chill
Beautiful aviary! I wish I lived in a climate where I could build an aviary like this for my cockatiels.
why dont you build one for temporary usage
use it in warmer summer months and bring the tiels inside during winter
just saying...
I live in Utah. The hogle zoo has an indoor area with free flight birds. But... I suppose they are an AZA facility and they have millions that they can spend on that kind of thing.
Liz T beautiful aviary? Are you not wearing your glasses or are you simply blind? What a hellhole! If I were a bird I would hate living there.

Depends on local pest animals and what types of birds you're planning to keep.
Mix birds , finches and small parrots ,budgies cocktails ,love birds and indian ringneck , java finch etc all together free flying
what kind of bird that i should put to help me clean the worms that possibly will live in there? ty before
Quail would be quite good.
