I'm in my mid-40's and I've been gainfully employed as a software engineer for one year as of today. It's the best thing I've ever done for myself. Thank you, sir.

    Thank you for being transparent. You have helped so many of us get into tech, I remember when I was watching your videos back in 2021 non-stop. I really feel like getting into tech was "best" before 2017. It's obviously never too late but this year particularly has been very tough for Software Engineers and aspiring Software Engineers. For those watching this video, know that Clement's story is very inspirational but he isn't the norm. As you can tell, the guy is really smart, eloquent, and business savvy. He also attributes some of his success to "luck". He worked hard to get that luck but nonetheless, he was lucky in many ways. Clement, do you think of how things would've been had you gone to REPL or Lyft?

    • @clem
      @clem  Рік тому +4

      It’s very hard to say, but my guess is they would have been quite different, particularly if I had gone to work at Replit. Because, in that case, I likely would have never gotten so “into” coding interviews, and I wouldn’t have had the Google catalyst to really push AlgoExpert.
      It would have been a different universe! Who knows where I’d be now? 😅

    I only graduated college 6 years ago as a computer scientist and its wild to think how your career progressed compared to mine by taking risks and working for the likes of Google. I work at Dell but not in the states, and my career really hasn't matured at all. Scraping just over 55k euro, have a family, mortgage under the belt and it's a real struggle. Dell rarely promote anyone and its incredibly frustrating when you give so much time and effor to the work, but that's the kind of company they are. On my team literally every single person is long over due a promotion to senior or principle developer. One thing I've learned is that loyalty punishes you financially. I dream daily of starting my own company, but just need to figure out what!
