Thoroughly enjoyed this and am happy to see people covering african history. Good stuff.
Can't believe I am just now coming across this video... The Funj Sultanate has incredible history after the fall of Makuria...
this video is really enjoyably
you deserve more views
Great video, very informative on a rarely discussed topic!
Great video
Very informative. Was a video ever made on the Funj kings?
Nice video :) I often play as the Funj in EU4 :P
Nice video
amazing video I appreciate it
Thank You for making this video, being from the Abdllab tribe you only hear about the funj in stories. its interesting how the Muslim clergy came to power and how that can still be seen today in modern day sudan
Does your tribe still has legends about how they conquered Soba? Traditionally, the Abdallab claimed to have conquered the kingdom of Soba (Alwa) before the rise of the Funj, while the Funj claimed it were them who did it.
Great to hear half my family is from the funj
Great narration!... But the information is terribly inaccurate. All Nubian including Funj in ancient times, all mounted war elephants from the south. Mounted African war elephants are pivotal parts of African military and always have been and the Nubian lineages and Empires have always used elephants. Purchase a book called The Royal African war elephant... And The second book of the Ottomans expeditions of the Nile. Which documents the Funj sultanate with the most accurate history of war, elephants and descriptions of battles first hand accounts.
The Turkish book does not have illustrations of the war elephants which the royal African war elephant book will go hand in hand with literal actual illustrations of the regions that describe and depict the war elephants used by African empires.
The two books
The Royal African war elephant
Ottomans exploration of the Nile.
These are accurate historical publications that western nations did not translate and did not publicate the images are circulate the images widely and you will see why once you receive.
Great visuals though
Very good doco. Well narrated. Interesting most of the depictions are from European artists. Would have been nice to have the indigenous or at least African artworks identified. (Some Egyptian.)
sadly, higher Sudanese arts, including paintings, disappeared after the fall of Christianity
@@LinusLinothorax Thanks for the reply. I'm guessing that was the anti-imagery ideas of Islam.
There's always one obvious error in these kind of video. That makes me question all the research that was done. At which point it basically becomes fiction or made up fantasy.
Our tribe name is pronounced foong or founj not fanj, thank you
“Unknown ancestry” lmao
They were Black
