I loved my poison necro in d2r. I was pretty disappointed when d4 came out and there wasn't a poison spec in the tree. The closest thing I came to it is a double curse shadow sever build. Watching this makes me want to go back and play d2r again though.
As you should, there is a reason that they have not been able to capture the very magic that D2 gives people. It's not nostalgia, that's for sure or people wouldn't still be playing it 20+ years later.

I tried reading the article on maxroll but holy hell this is confusing... Would be awesome to have a video on the mechanics of poison damage and how it is viable in any build.
Wanted to say thanks for these Poison Necro play throughs as I was just creating a Necro. I am playing single player and have been switching between Poison and summon as needed. I have some decent Unique Daggers but nothing else. I was wondering why you didn't mention the value of having additional sources of 2 or 3 second Poison to help reduce poison time and increase Damage per second. Bringing poison down from 19 seconds down to something like 12 or 9 seems like a great idea.
I'm sure I'm not the first one to think of this but... do you think it'd add a touch of balance to the game if it were made so you can only equip one of any specific runeword at a time? If you took away the option for dual Spirit, dual Grief, dual Mosaic, dual Phoenix etc...
My poison nova necro is struggling through hell right now. Can't wait to see how you tackle it. Poison nova just doesn't scale that well compared to poison explosion, which is where your real damage comes from.
I remember sawing poison necro build like 6years ago, started just try it out on LoD and at lvl ~78 doing pit runs with poison nova i got a 2 2 47 eth d'web xD
Does Poison stack? Like say it says it does 50000 damage over 2 seconds, then you hit the mob a second time in that 2 second stage, does that just reset the timer or does it do 10000 damage in the remaining time the first hit has?
Does CS runs on nm are worth it? I always try to get asap to hell for some runs but never tried to go for CS nm runs. If yes which low budget/gear char/build would rock it there? Single player ...
as much as the original design of D2 is great, I don't know what their panties were in a bunch over with balance. Make it so all choices in the game are at least viable options. the D2R team just tweaking it a little here and there has been welcome.

In casual playtest poison nova necro is the slowest starter build out of any in orig D2, it gains momentum around level 45.

why not put strength or something in a dagger and use poison dagger for bosses?

I Like white in a wand with +2-3 lower resist as a starter if I get lucky and find it.
This shows how slow AF I play. I got through act 3 normal on a pally while listening to this.

Why you cast first Nova than Lower resist , you lose 1 secon its half time of nova dmg!!!??!!!
on lvl 40 i create nekr poison nova with lower ressist + fire golem 5 skill + merc 3 act + corpse explosion 5 skill its wit out any + skill

Using CE is pretty much necessary for a Necro. Poison build doesn't mean you can ONLY use poison, ya know
