I'm sure this is irrelevant at this point being that the other parts are already filmed and on their way out, but an explanation of how poison damage is calculated and applied would be really helpful.
I played a pure poison necro but with the benefit of shared stash. So I used poison dagger with Gull until I could equip The Jade Tan Do (cannot be frozen coming in clutch), then Blackbog's Sharp. Can't wait till I eventually snag Bramble and Death's Web to really polish it!
@@dannyk1568 Look at Llama's video for how to gamble in D2R! He specifically targets Gull, and that's exactly how I got mine. Having even a mid level gold find barb to do NM Trav or something will pay for it pretty quickly.
The thing ya'll gotta understand about us D2 vets is that we are *starving* for an ARPG that we can enjoy as much as or more than D2. Unfortunately for the ARPG genre, D2 set the bar stupidly high and, in many well thought opinions, that bar has yet to be passed (certainly not by anything Blizzard has made in the last decade). When they make an ARPG that does more things right than D2, we'll be there to sing its praises. Till then, the hunt for Death's Web continues!
Llama I know it seems like your joke at 1:49:55 fell flat, but I'm here over two months late to tell you that it was actually peak dad humor, and it is greatly appreciated. Slow but meaningful clap, accompanied by a demonstrative nod of the head.
They don't want to improve anything but the MONITIZATION in any of their games. Top-down problem, and not the programmers. Give them a list of 100 ways to improve monetization and they will implement them immediately.
When do you think you can do a walkthrough in D2R for the Summon-Necro? Last Time you Made the guided playthrough in old D2 the hell-Part was missing, right? Love your content, watch it since years, thank you for all!
Hi llama, you mention in this video that you have a whole spreadsheet of ideas how to improve the game. I saw all the d4 videos and I can like your ideas. Would love to see you also make a video where you list down things you think are still not perfect with diablo 2 and also create that spreadsheet with the same level of details. Probably going to be a shorter list and it will be smaller things but would be genuinely interested to get a d2 review (of the current version) from you
Loot filters, improvements to melee items, and a better crafting system are the recurring themes when he talks about improvements to D2. I could take or leave a crafting system but I'm 100% behind the first two!
Seriously loving these playthroughs, llama. Ive played d2 on and off since about 2004. Watched your vids off and on on yt for a decade. Keep doing you. Best of luck with llamarpg.
Think about it, egregious affix pool means more time in-game to sit and try to reroll or farm another item with better affixes. Just another way of padding "engagement" for their metric hard on. They would have made plans to rework it if that wasn't the case.
Exact build I wanted to play with my friend next time we play, but it's only ever discussed as an endgame build and not something to beat the game with. Obvious to see why, but I'm still looking forward to see how this does with budget equipment
The whole situation around D4 reminds me a lot of ESO. I think a lot of people's hatred of the game is coming from disappointment they created for themselves. For the years leading up to ESO's release Zenimax was pretty clear about what they were making, an mmo set in the elder scrolls world. Fans went wild on the internet about how they were making a multiplayer skyrim. Despite that not being the case, fans were furious on launch that it was indeed an mmo and not a multiplayer skyrim. Blizzard were pretty up front with the development of the game over the last few years with their blogs. We knew what we were getting ahead of time, years of quarterly updates, multiple closed and open betas, and yet when it came out people were mad that it wasn't the thing they wanted. It's exactly what I was expecting, it has a lot of fundamental issues but it's still fun for what it is.
I think the biggest disappointments were how much feedback they ignored and how lonely the game is when they really made it seem like a big social world. Definitely people got excited and created their own ideas of what it would be but there were many things it was promised that it just never fulfilled
I always find the comments from chat in these runs so ridiculous. So many people asking why he doesn't level with other skills. When I am reading/watching a guide, the last thing I want to see is "First thing you need to do is play most of the game with a completely different build" Especially in Diablo 2 where the whole point of the game is the playthrough. I don't want to rush to hell with bone spear or summons and farm runes and gear and then swap to poison. At that point you're already done, there isn't anything left to do so what's the point. I remember the first time I was playing Dragon's Dogma, I wanted to play arcane archer because I thought it was cool. I went to look up a guide for how to build it, and literally every guide I read started with "Before you spec into arcane archer the first thing you want to do is level to 99 as a sorcerer. Their magic damage per level is much better than arcane archer" It's the same thing in D2, you wanna play a physical bowazon? First thing you gotta do is play the entire game as a better build, like thanks.
What would your thoughts be on an early-game rune word or item that allows you to pass through mobs. I think in this game it would be so big for making areas like Maggot Lair and A3 in some cases such a nightmare for melee? It might mitigate some of the difficulty though... hmm tough to say
When u refarm an área for xp it would be Nice if u could use shared staff Magic find ítems, i think it's cool when u get low lvl sets or uniques that u can use
Peeps roasted me as well for saying the game looked about 70% complete on that final beta. Now I think it I was pretty spot on. I quit play D4 at level 43 and begrudgingly finished the campaign. I kind of hated it
About what makes D2 fun, the trying new builds and replaying the game with it, I agree fully. PoE is a great game that makes you wanna push for new builds too, but there the campaign just feels like something you HAVE to do, not WANT to do. Grim Dawn is the only other game who has captured the feel of D2 when it comes to playing through campaign to try a new build and just enjoy the ride. D3 and D4 missed that completely..
Y'all crazy AF. Imagine going to someone's channel and demanding they make only the content you prefer. Who raises these ppl?? Smh. Do you, Llama. There's alway a punk forest to navigate. Never mind them haters in the branches.
The problem with D3 and D4 is that the teams that developed those games are not the same teams that developed D2 and the StarCraft game systems. It was Blizz North that developed those early game systems and they were of the opinion that balance and playability was a key aspect. When Blizz South started to take over then a lot of politics started to come into play and less quality was put into the games. Later when Activision bought Blizz all of the key architects, product managers and developers left. So, what you have now is a name and title but not the core of people who had the vision. After seeing D3, and listening to some of the comments about the making of D4 when D2R was in progress, it seemed pretty clear that there was little or no respect for D2R which had a strong following for well over a decade. It was only when they started to play the game in the process of redoing D2R that they realized that the game was decent. Unfortunately, they didn't bring in the quality that was present from the original game. Blizz North was ship quality even if the game was late, that isn't the case with Activision.
Reason why D2 was and is so successful is because the core group that worked on it had a dream that they willed to life with sheer grit and determination. I’ve heard stories of them sleeping where they worked and barely having the game playable during launch, and it was also a huge hurdle because online gaming at the time was virtually nonexistent. The new Diablo series was produced without the original designers, and I’m certain it was more money motivated than a product of passion. So many games nowadays are pay to win (see how they ruined OW2), which makes it too obvious that the majority of developers are driven by generating money over creating something exciting.
I'm a huge D2 fan and i liked early D3 as well. D4 release totally went over my head. i thought they were joking the whole time. i still think they are
The problem with Dark and Darker is Nexon *wanted* make the game but the dude took the idea and basically just took it, quit and poached employees from Nexon to work on it. Nexon is definitely in the right on this one legally, as weird as that feels to say lol. To my understanding, of course.
Luckily with respecs, most characters can have a decent early game. The worst was before respecs having to gimp yourself for all of normal before you can allocate points to your build.
I love playing the weird builds. That's what is fun for me in Diablo 2. Playing the same old characters with one skill maxed out and using that one skill over and over again is boring.
give players a few more skill points and move all aspects into the skill tree, remove legendries make more uniques (uniques dont need amazing aspects just desirable fixed affixes), frim the fat of affixes down to more generic things like spell dmg, and weapon dmg, and make items tradable my thoughts on how D4 could be improved
i love these playthroughs and was excited for the d2 content, and then it was just even more complaining about d4. Its absolutely llamas content and he can make what he wants but i dont watch a d2 playthrough to get the same takes on d4 every video. i watched the videos on d4 and thought they were insightful and appreciated the opinions; some opinions i wholeheartedly agree with, some i dont. The overwhelming negativity kinda took the wind out of my sails on me wanting to watch the video. And to reiterate this is my opinion it is probably wrong and its not my channel nor am i trying to curate content, just express what i like to watch which is strummer having fun playing great old game.
Picked up D2R in the past few weeks and I have been absolutely binging the heck out of these awesome playthroughs while I play.
Good purchase friend! Enjoy playing it forever haha
He’s the master! You must remember to socket a magical 2 socket wand with Io Dol runes
enjoy the game dude!
have fun with the game im playing d4 right now but still like to listen to Mrllama while i play that game
Nice. I think you might find that this game actually gets MORE fun after 30-50 hours as you learn more. At least it did for me.
These playthroughs are great and reinvigorate my love for this game
Diablo 4 feels like a job. Diablo 2 feels like a game.
YES! OMG YES!
Facts
I remember Llama saying he would never do a poison dagger run.... the fact that he did it instead of playing diablo 4 says alot 😂
Would never do a poison dagger run. Or would never do a poison dagger speedrun?
Honestly, having watched your takes on D2 and D4, I’m already very much excited to play your game.
Me too Mr. Llama.
I'm sure this is irrelevant at this point being that the other parts are already filmed and on their way out, but an explanation of how poison damage is calculated and applied would be really helpful.
dude you always make this game look interesting

This is the way.
I want a gull dagger so bad so I can do that haha

We need a Jab and Fend Amazon guided playthrough next!

Yoooo, Poison Necro was my next project on Ladder! And now a Llama playthrough?? Yeeeeeaaaaaah.

"D4 is better than D2, that is great". That is what I love about you MrLLama!! to each their own.
Wicked playthrough and such a painful throne :)
Are you planning to put up a vid of your new levelgen explanation too? That was really awesome.
i remember as a kid having a poison necro and spamming poison nova with super fast cast rate where it was just ridiculous but way fun killing cows
"Bravely run away" Great reference around 3:44:00

Awesome run
Have you ever reached out to Splattercat for maybe some game coverage? He primarily does Indie titles
Poison dagger really should be poison weapon to make it more viable and variation.
I've killed baal for the 2 millionth time. When does end game start?
Never, but somehow we still keep going don't we?

Is he gonna be releasing his game on Steam when it comes out? Llama RPG? I'd be kinda interested in trying it.
He has said before it will be released on Steam and cost ~$10 IIRC.
Wouldn't this have been made considerably easier with a bow merc during Act 1?
I don't get why you are not using Dim Vision and Terror - two extremely useful skills of the mancer.

How is LLAMARPG LLC?
Love this char! DWeb has been my best drop ever but it was anti perfect:((((((
Even tho i have played all builds still love new starts, waiting for new season 👹
probably would need some vitality for melee
u have to have strong melee for dagger, dex, and strength, and bone shield
Intro restart is too funny.
I would start as a summon necro and then respec, much less painful in the beginning.
Do you prefer the remastered graphics to the original? I find myself switching pretty often but i definitely play more with the classic graphics on
Video and sound not sync. I love the content. I did not know you were in too hockey. I love playing hockey. Ty for shearing.
Perfekt Timing !
bruh, no camel during playthroughs with his trolls and laughs hits different after watching some LOD playthroughs
Necromancers only weakness is killing bosses. At least until you get great gear.
Andariel dropped something your act 2 merc could have used D:
I wish d2r would get some endgame and added content and reworks. Soo much room for modding and improvement!
The Gull a decent starting weapon for this?
Sure the huge mqgic find help you find more useful stuff for later
tis amazing how the early game is pure suffering for pretty much any character lol

It's funny how much heat you got for your D4 opinions last year. Here we are a year later aaaannnnd
yo mr llama wazzaappp from philippines
I know you're doing a genuine run but man you don't have to go through this pain with poison dagger.... we all know bone into respec is the way to go
4 hours sounds a bout right for a necro build
llama is more excited to find a blue grand charm that does 1 - 2 cold damage in d2r than finding a legendary item in D4. D4 itemization is TRASH
AL-Go-Rhythm
Diablo 4 itemization is boring, In D2 I still get excited to make a stealth on a fresh character
Poison is fun! If you want a unique experience playing the game! 😂
Tip for video > loot filters D2R 2023?
Part normal, poison necro, 4 hours long. I can only assume you went poison dagger through normal lol.
