Yesterday, I bought a bottle of Stellum Perseus Brl Prf SiB Store Pick 115.1P. Got it for $20 on a Black Friday sale. The mash bills are listed on their website for the SiB releases. Never heard of Stellum until I saw that bottle discounted yestarday, so bought it & started researching later. They sold out within an hour, but there were a Lot of other Brl Prf SiB Store Picks from $20-30
Luxardo is a brand of maraschino cherry. They're called maraschino cherries because they're supposed to be soaked in maraschino liqueur. The cherries themselves are "Marasca." The atomic red cherries are sweet cherries that are bleached and then dyed with Red 40... the mullets of cherries.
OMG!!! MULLETS BACKWARDS!!! Now I'll never get that out of my head! Thanks for reviewing these, been eyeing them both and wasn't sure which one to try first.
There is a name on the bottle and small letters and a number on the top of the lable that will tell you the mash bill when you google "stellum bourbon has a name and small letters and a number"
Was looking for something new in the liquor store the other day and an employee asked "have you tried Stellum? It's a blend of Indians Kentucky and Tennessee bourbons". And I thought, Indiana - hmm love MGP. Kentucky - is it Barton, is it Four Roses, something else? Regardless it's probably good. Tennessee - ugh, Dickel. 'Sorry, going to pass on it and go with the store pick of the Backbone Uncut because I know I'll like Cask Strength MGP...'
Got one of these a while back (Bourbon), it's fine but your observations are spot on. It makes for a decent second pour of the evening for me, never first.
Hehe Sorry Chad, but thank you both for keeping that in there. We have ALL been there with a whiskey. Take a sip, and try to take a breath and coughing hits. Especially higher proof. Glad you are okay!
The MULLETS thing can’t be a coincidence, can it!? Great video guys. Being big Barrell fans, we’re on the lookout for both of these to pop up locally. Until then we’ll keep cracking up at Sara’s reaction to Chad’s near death experience. 😂
Your review got me all choked up. 😎 Seriously, good review, thanks for posting it. I didn’t hear anything to suggest this brand is exceptional, so maybe I’ll try to find it at a bar for one pour…
I have this on the shelf but just picked up the new Stellum Lyra, which for me fixes some of the downside the two of you talk about here. Worth a shot, or a glass, and only a couple of dollars more.
Never seen these bottles. I do love what Barrell is doing though and want to try more stuff from them. I love their concept of basically open sourcing in their barrell line so I would love to see what these taste like since its not that way. Great stuff as always yall! Cheers.
Stellum Bourbon is fantastic. I don’t get any Dickel or bitterness you are getting from it 😂. It is a super super good well rounded bourbon. It’s almost as if you have a different liquid in there. But then again I think the Dickel blue label is a great bourbon, and the trend of downgrading a whiskey any time someone smells Dickel is super annoying. For some of y’all UA-camrs, “Dickel” is almost like a cuss word. I find it strange. But either way, I don’t taste Dickel, at least in any negative way. Maybe I am biased?
Have the bourbon coming soon. I don’t mind Dickel nearly as much as you two do, so I’m very curious. Will be shocked if it can hang with OF 1920 though, my favorite in this price/proof bracket.
@@phychmasher Completely agree. The Stellum has gotten better with air, but it still has a bitter off note. Not in the same league as 1920 and not on my buy again list tbh.
I like most Barrell offerings, but the new Stellum didn’t do it for me. I did just get one of the Four Gate Bourbon Private Cask bottles and just ordered the bourbon night Rye! Should be here next week, can’t wait. Cheers everyone.
It must finally be summertime in KY cause Sara is wearing a short sleeve t-shirt. Thanks for the video guys good info, definitely not into the "bad" peanut finish. The rye is not alot more in proof or price than Pikesville, which state great and is hard to beat. I hate it when that "coughing fit" comes out of nowhere.. Great video guys!
After half a bourbon bottle down I can say that it tastes like a 3/4 almost there Barrel Dovetail. It has the same mouthfeel as a bunch of the latest barrel releases but is still no where near as good or wow as barrel releases are. I won’t buy it again for another 2-3 years and just pony up the extra dough for Dovetail or the other barrel releases. I have used this bourbon for blending experiments as a base and it definitely does the job in that department. I like blending it with Pure Kentucky XO and Rare breed at the moment. I may try Knob Creek single barrel next. Cheers. I subscribed to give y’all more coin.
I got wintermint and cherry in the rye also. It was a drying mouth feel. It is a drinking experience and changes. Got a spice bite with both the bourbon and rye. I preferred the rye also. My palate must be improving. 😊 Great video as always, Chad & Sara. I also say find them at a bar & try them side by side as I did.
I bought the bourbon and it was like fire in my mouth. I'm thinking that I should have tried the rye but I didn't c it where I went. I'll have 2 give it another chance. Sara killed me when she laughed the whole time Chad was dying!!! I almost drowned in a 14 ft pool when I was younger and my Mum jumped in to save me but......laughed the whole time!😳! I jumped right back in to spite her! LOL
I keep reading reviews that say Dickel is very understated, and they are wrong. Dickel is there. If TN whiskey is in the blend, I will skip a blind buy.
This stuff is garbage. It tastes like flavored vodka. Do not buy this stuff, or better for me, go hog wild on this stuff and leave the actual value bourbon on the shelves for me.

wow... ive learned a LOT from you two.. your tasting breakdown is very good... love the onscreen chem.. :)
Thanks so much!!
“Buy our water glasses so you can choke on your water just like me!” Lmao 😂 j/k, definitely been there myself haha
OMG!!! MULLETS BACKWARDS!!! Now I'll never get that out of my head! Thanks for reviewing these, been eyeing them both and wasn't sure which one to try first.
"Perseus" -SBC7
is 75% corn,21% rye and 4% barley malt
I was trying to properly describe that weird aftertaste but Chad's description nailed it.
Lol!! I’ve had whiskey down the wrong pipe more than once. Painful, yet somehow I think it kills anything in the trachea, almost like medicine...lol 😉
There is a name on the bottle and small letters and a number on the top of the lable that will tell you the mash bill when you google "stellum bourbon has a name and small letters and a number"
Damn, Chad! We almost lost ya, man! I like Stellum, but it never hit me like that.
Chad, I'm glad you're still with us after that scary episode. Sara, way to be ready to save a life. Cheers from 🇨🇦🥃
What happened?
Well done! OF 100 is Tussin!
The bourbon grew on me...

The bourbon bottle changes a lot after the neck pour
As a scientist I can confirm we don't wear hats
Sara's laugh was HILARIOUS, glad you're still here Chad

Have a store pick of the bourbon and its fantastic
Original Recipe - *cough, almost dies*
Extra crispy - “my plan is working”

The rye sounds interesting. Will buy if I see it.

Sara is looking spectacular lately!!
Lately?
@@PhatTrumpet2 more than her already looking fabulous!!

Breathe Chad, Breathe ;-) Cheers to the weekend Chad & Sara !!

Hahahaha Sara’s face during “always the center of attention” :) I was curious about this one, so the timing is appropriate. Cheers!
I really like the Stellum Rye. I need to blind it with WT Rare Breed Rye, Pikesville and Woodinville Cask Strength Rye. The Bourbon was good as well.
The Dickel profile is very apparent. I'm not a fan of it myself. I'll slowly finish off the 1 bottle of the bourbon I have.
How does it compare to rare breed
There is no other pain like that of inhaling a few drops of cask strength whisk(e)y down one’s trachea

@@phychmasher Completely agree. The Stellum has gotten better with air, but it still has a bitter off note. Not in the same league as 1920 and not on my buy again list tbh.
Any notes on your four gate rye on sealbachs? Cheers 🥃
Stellum spelled backwards is Mullets. Coincidence, I think not.
Mullets backward? Would they be the Joe Dirt of whiskey? 114 Proof is tempting!

That's it - strikes #1 and #2 for me was Dickel and Robitussin. But almost killing Chad?? Strike #3 - I'll sit this one out!
Hope this comes to VA. Cheers Sara and Chad!
Just scored my first bottle of Stellum bourbon, but Chad's near-death experience has scared me.
I really want to get a bottle of each. Hopefully they’ll get to my state eventually
can buy them online via their website if you'd like to pay for shipping, recommend buying both to even that out.
Wooo
According to the rep from Stellum, the age ranges from 5-16 years old bourbon.
I bought the bourbon and it was like fire in my mouth. I'm thinking that I should have tried the rye but I didn't c it where I went. I'll have 2 give it another chance. WHISKEY CHEERS
So they do the same thing that Johnny Walker does with scotch.
Try to mention original recipe Chad and extra crispy Chad in the first 2 mins. of every video. That should help.boost subscribed numbers. Team Sara!

🤦🏼♂️
As I’m drinking Stellum bourbon watching this, I regret every dollar I spent on it.
