A couple of tips for woodworking • If you are buying green/wet/un-dried wood, try to buy it in quantity. If you only need 4 or 5 board, buy 20, maybe even 50 ! Store them out of the sun/rain. Obviously they need to be stored off the ground but a small stick must to be placed between each layer for air flow as they dry. You need to rotate/re-stack the boards every week or so. The ones on the top should go in the bottom. By doing this it will help preventing "cupping"/warping as the boards dry. • If you are going to glue up multiple boards to make a table top or large flat panels with 2 cm thick boards, use narrower boards, about 5-10 cm across. Much less likely to cup. Tongue and groove is the best, but you need special tools to make that edge. Buy some "dowel alignment pins". You put them in the holes in your first board and then lightly press the second board up against the first. The pins leave a mark showing where to drill the second set of holes ! • If you are going to put a cross piece in the back, install it before the glue dries. You are better off using a small brush to spread the glue. Your finger removes too much glue.
Thank you Jack for this ver helpful message, we really appreciate it. We are doing a roof next and have bought the wood and now its drying. Good tip about turning it! I'll look at this post again when we need to work with it :)
