The crisis of the 7th century and 8th you can argue were far more closer to destroying the Roman Empire than the 3rd century

The Third Century crisis wasn't about Rome falling, it was about the collapse of Imperial authority, civil wars, breakaway of provinces. In the 7th century Rome nearly collapsed totally. So agreed!

I would argue that this was the end of the “Roman Empire” in its classical, Mediterranean-spanning form. In 600, it was still recognizable as the Late Roman Empire. But the Byzantine state that emerged from this by 700 was radically different.

@@jeffreypopper9719100% no doubt because by the end of this period, the Arab world stretches from Spain to central Asia, and the Muslim armies would fight both a Frankish AND Chinese army within a span of 20 years in the mid 8th century. The Romans had a crazy run, from Hannibal to Umar, but after 800ish years of empire, it was over as soon as Al-As took Egypt and cut off the Romans Asian holdings from their African holdings.

As a history teacher, the history of the eastern Roman Empire following the fall of the western half has always been a little bit of a grey area for me when discussing the Roman Era with my students. Pure reading didn't allow me to visualize the happenings very well. Thank you for your detailed explanations and accompanying visuals of this period. It corroborates with the books I have of the era. Well done!

Out of all parts in this video, the Second Siege of Constantinople by the Arabs in 717-718 is my most favorite part here. Speaking of such an event, should someone make a movie out of it?
Fun Fact: Imperatrix Maria, wife of Imperator Leo III, also given birth to his son and future Imperator Constantine V, while the capital of Constantinople was being besieged by the Umayyad Caliphate.

The active rejection of Monothelytism by the Miaphysite Armenians makes one wonder to what extent the Dya v Miaphysite controversy played a role in losing Egypt and Syria. It seems conceivable that the Coptic and Aramaic speakers preferred the Arabs to Greek rule. Perhaps at this time Islam was not yet clearly defined and appeared like a potentially close set of beliefs, acceptable to the miaphysites.

Copts preferring the caliphate is a myth, yeah they had grievances with Chalcedonian rule but they did not prefer Muslim rule over it. The Coptic sources are quite clear on that and Egypt unlike Syria did see local resistance and a hard fought campaign to take the region.

The Armenian church united for a while with chalcedonianism under Catholicos ezra and nerses iii at the council of theodosiopolis, until John of odzun convened the council of manzikert in the 700s and condemned chalcedonianism again.

Theophanes the Confessor was a prominent Byzantine Greek Scholar and Chronicler. His monumental work “Chronographia” (Χρονογραφία), covers the events from the accession of Diocletian in 284 AD (which is the point where the Chronicle of George Syncellus ends), to the downfall of Emperor Michael I in 813 AD.
This part of the Chronicle is valuable for having preserved the accounts of lost authorities on Byzantine Greek history for the seventh and eighth centuries that would otherwise have been lost.
Truly, a historical and academic treasure.

The Byzantine Empire faced a significant threat from the rise of Islam and Arab invasions, which began in the 600s:
    Arab conquest
The Arab Caliphate forced the Byzantine Empire out of the Levant in the 630s. The Muslim navy nearly destroyed the Byzantine fleet in the 655 Battle of the Masts, ending the empire's control of the Mediterranean

They're not Arab armies but Muslim armies of various ethnicities!! Even most of these conquests in the holy book the Quran are referred to as Islamic "Fateh" or Muslim openings or victories not an Arab one.. Because believe it or not, the army During the Conquest of Mecca and the early expansion of Islam were made up of 90% Arabs, but since the fall of the Sasanian empire and the conquest of north Africa the army who fought the Romans and conquest Iberia were from the different ethnicities united by Islam, Berbers Persians Anatolians Turks and more..

What civilization have Arabs created? They took math from the Indians, art from the Persians and Egyptians, thought from the Greeks and Romans, religion from Jews and Christians. Then their "islamic golden age" barely lasted a few centuries. Since then it has been unchecked bloodshed and barbarism in the Muslim world ever since. That's why Muslim countries now are rotting corrupt disintegrating abominations that have to copy Western ways of doing things.
