Like all FRS radios, you need to bring your own contacts with you. Like CB, FRS, and MURS radios are all "Licensed By Rule" (you follow the FCC rules) you can use the radio (USA)

I can verify we tested these at 3km with a elevation/hill between us and forest, it was still just good enough if you had an emergency to be able to communicate. They’re great for what they are.

We are looking for a solution for our property. Its a moderately wooded 20 acres. Cell signal isnt great, so It would be nice to have comms with the house while Im working outside just in case. These seem like a great option. Thanks for the info!

It sounds like you have a great property, and the radios seem like a good option for communication in areas with weak cell signal. 😄

This radio has an output power of less than 1 watt. And like all (USA) FRS radios it will communicate with any other (USA) FRS radio. You don't need to buy another Rocky Talkie.

Lovely review! Is this using internal, non-removable battery? Meaning that after a few years of use and the battery life cycle is, you're good to throw the entire set to the trash? (I know this is more a more common practice with Costner electronics like the Apple AirPods etc.. but as a nature lover, this would be definitely a no-go for the planned obsolescence aspect of the product.) Thanks!

If you take the outside protective cover off you can remove the lithium battery and replace it if needed.

    Are they waterproof?

From their website: “The Rocky Talkie is rated IP56. In practical terms, this means the Rocky Talkie is protected from rain, splashes, and snow. However, it is not fully waterproof, and should not be fully submerged in water. If you do need to use your radio in heavy water conditions, consider stowing it in a dry bag and using the Waterproof Hand Mic along with your radio!”

The new ones are IP67 and GRMS and FRS.

Need 75 Mile longer range and to be 100waterproof and they would be the best.
