Wow. Now I see Dietrich in a different light and also my own life. I always wanted to be famous. Never happened. But my life wasn't too bad. I hope Maria Riva had a better life after the 1990´s.
At about 11:25 when Maria is talking about Marlene and Joan Crawford a lightbulb went on. I remembered watching interviews with Joan and to me she seemed obviously calculating and contrived. Marlene on the other hand appeared natural and even nonchalant about her career in interviews I’ve seen.
Maria Riva is so refreshing. She has that discernment so typical I feel of older Europeans born within that time period of WW2. Rather like my grandparents born in Eastern Europe. Same no nonsense “this is what it is and that’s it” logic.
Dear Lady I grew up with a " noble " irish Family they lost there title and wealth of coarse when the British came in and took it! But not the stigma of the nobility and royalty of the title they got from there parents! They expected me to pick up pieces now, I'm taking care of my folks in there old age..... I've come home with soap poisoning, though I really don't mean, but every so often something from being raised with this stigma of being the spare slips out. I wish you had this opportunity to feel what its like to feel like you were born as an extra person to fill in if something happens to the first 2 but it sucks!. I don't feel it's right but it does help to know that there is someone out there that feels the same way.
I hope that you found peace after your mother died, as i did. Life is difficult with a mother who believes herself to be the Oracle. ❤❤❤❤. Ihave great admiration for you.❤❤❤
Hii viewers! Does anyone who what is that piece of classical music on the background of the ad at 1:32? I could swear I know it, but cant quite place it. Anyone?
So sad that her only child truly had no mother or I should say a mother’s nurturing and love….Dietrich was, in my opinion, a good actor but sadly not a “good” mother.
It's so strange that she changes her story constantly, depending on the audience. She appears to speak English very well, yet claims that she was forced to speak only German. Aber Deutsch spricht sie night so gut. So sad to be so incredibly jealous of her own mother.
My best friend learnt English from TV and dropped the German accent at the same time. Got rid of most of it! It can be done! It doesn't take much time! It's really amazing it's all will power!
Marlene Dietrich looked better at 70 than Maria Diva at 50! Marlene gave a concert at 72 recovering from a broken hip to make money for Riva's children's college fees! She left her 500,000 $ in cash and a 400,000 $ bracelet. Since her death she hasn't stopped dirtying her mother's name!
She doesn't dirtying her mother's name, but she shows all shadows of her difficult personality. And Maria's book make her mother much more interesting and mysterious for anyone.
So she left her money and that made her a good parent??She let an adult rape her daughter is that a good parent or does leaving her money after death make her one.Being an actress in films is not real and being a mother is.She is talking about her mother not an actress.
I love Mrs. Rivas book so much, read it over and over, she know how to tell a good story !
So have I! I have four copies and must have read them at least 15 times.
I read this book it is a great read
I can listen to Maria Riva speak for hours!!! I LOVE HER BRAIN!
Yes i agree.
Austrian brain! Eat it!!!
when you have some time go to emmytvlegends.org she did an in-depth multi-hour interview for them. An absolute delight to listen to.
@@cmcb09 thank you so much, just found it and bookmarking it to watch after work. thanks again! xo
@@cmcb09 saw it and loved it! thanks for the recommendation! i can listen to her speak all day!

She's calling her mother by the last name. Says a lot.
She is differentiating between her mother and the movie star...
@@TheDealvin Ha! Isn't that as clear as a bell? Some people are just so...

I just finished her wonderful biography of her mother
WONDERFUL MARIA RIVA
Way more beautiful than her mother and way MORE CHARACTER! Happy belated birthday, Maria, AUSTRIAN!
@Nora Vega not at all. Marlene was disgusting ...go n worship ur "star", the alcoholic wreck. She was an awful mother. ...
@Wombling free Maria Looks better than Marlene.
Is she ever going to let her talk?

... but lived on Dietrich's money for decades. Who payed for everything? Dietrich.
I think both were disturbed , self centered and full of vengence and money oriented. This one also wanted her 5 min of fame
Dommage qu'il n y est pas de sous titres ou de traduction en français !
marlene was stunning but when she spoke in the films, a bit dull
It's got to be a challenge to be understandable, let alone compelling, when speaking in a second language.

So nice to see and listen to Maria, she has such a class and wit and beauty. Wish her the best ♥️

5:35 what you say bout Edith?!!
Ikr 😐
When she called her ugly, she wasn't talking about her looks.

She wasn’t attractive!! But Maria definitely meant personality. Why do some of us think we know the stars personally? Strange
I find that Marlene Dietrich was not beautiful. So,what was the appeal?
I think it's her self-confidence attracted people
So beauty is the only standard for "appeal"? And you don't understand other people thinking someone is beautiful if you don't?
another Christina etc etc
And who can say that either of them are lying??

the spine of her story always remains the same, as with all humans, as time marches on, you view history through a different lens.
@Robert A. Lofgren Jr. exactly!
@Robert A. Lofgren Jr. What makes you think I didn't meet Frau Dietrich??

Here Maria is 62. Without face lift and layers of make-up. No special light effects.
Lol. And it was all fake. With wigs and tape to stretch her face and harness to create a figure..And u believe the illusion. So naive and silly
So what how shallow

“Aristocracy??” No.. it was..
NARCISSISM!!!!
Marlene was not beautiful, not even pretty. And she could not sing. I've never got this hype about her.
It's her eyes for me and her confidence but yeah hearing her daughter everything my attractions to is at a low now.
Agree, but she became a legend anyway. I think that was because she was a really hardworker
@@user-tc9po4mi7h She was a self-created unlikely but true star
@@user-tc9po4mi7h I think it was more because she slept with everyone she ever met.
Very very striking and that is a characteristic of beauty
