- This is part two of two. Today I show off the collected editions of Amazing Spider-man in oversized Hardcovers and Omnibus editions. Collecting material from 2001 to 2018. I do a deep look as to what the content of the books and talk about what the reading order. Focusing purely on OHCs and Omnis, so keep that in mind, but I do mention where some trades fit in. This mainly covers everything up to Red Goblin Saga and I do mention some upcoming omnibuses that have been solicited.

I want the Spider Verse Omnibus, but won't get it because I hate HATE the fact that it's not in reading order. Who the hell designs a book where you have to flip back and forth in the book to read it in the proper order...?
I don't know, maybe some intern in the collections department.
I just put removable post-it flags to number the reading order of the book.
Yeah, it made me quit mad. The fact they gave you a reading order but didn't put the issues in that order made no sense. If they ever rerelease it in proper order, I'll rebuy it.
@Super JLK Update, I did in fact cave and purchase it, but it's organized per series. So it will have all the issues of Amazing Spiderman, then whatever next series and so on.

Really really useful video! I have a lot of these, but have been reluctant to get spiderverse and clone conspiracy because of the reading order issue...and then I heard your idea for taking them apart and re-binding them: I think that'll be my plan! :)
It's a mess and I don't see Marvel collecting the Slott run in omni format for many years.
Can you do an episode explaining the most important arcs and synopsis of the last 10 years of Spider-Man? Like a documentary? You have so much material that would be great to see in a NMC Gaiden episode. Great job as usual hermano!

I'm thinking of keeping my Best of. Because I'm sure The Other will be excluded except for the JMS parts. I'm not sure what they will decide to do with OMD.. It's only four parts, surely all four of will be included.

I've heard of the annoyance with the Spider-verse HC, which had always made me pause on buying it. Instead, I was thinking I'd just custom bind the single issues I have where it would make sense and include everything.

Skipping one more day, brand new day, and gauntlet
Very helpful video Omar. Thanks. I have a feeling that Marvel have undertaken an ASM reissue program spanning from "Brand New Day" to just before "Dying Wish". We've now seen new trades of "New Ways To Live" & "The Gauntlet Volume 1" which (along with the latest "Brand New Day Complete Collection Vols. 1-4" TPB's) have the same red spines as the "Dying Wish" TPB (leading into Superior), I expect there may be new trades to both upgrade also 'condense the book count' .
The Brand New Day trades include all of the HC's to "Died in Your Arms Tonight",
"New Ways..." trade contains the contents of "Red Headed Stranger" & "Return Of Black Cat",
The Gauntlet Vol. 1 includes the first 3 HC volumes. I expect Vol. 2 will include the remaining 2 Gauntlet HC's. That leaves a gap (for me) of the next 3 HC's ("Grim Hunt" "Origin Of The Species" and "One Moment In Time") leading up to "Big Time" (yes Omar, I paused my TV to get a good look at your impressive ASM HC collection 😊).
If it happens I will stop at the volume before "Big Time". Thankfully I'm not THAT OCD with spine colours lol. My collection is covered all the way to Superior & beyond. I just haven't bought the latest stuff by Nick Spencer. Hope this isn't too long winded for you. Just shows that I'm learning every day. 😊

No idea if you’ll see this because it’s an old video(still working on the backlog!) but I just wanted to say 1) I asked you about a Moon Knight Lemire OHC awhile ago, and I finally found one for $45. :) Super stoked! 2) I think you mentioned in your DC livestream that you had an upcoming interview tomorrow so I wanted to wish you luck! If you put even half the effort into your career as you do on here you should be a shoo-in, in my book! Hey, Omar, thanks so much for the videos. You inspired me to start my own Spider-man collection and for the last year and a half I've been collecting most of the material there is in OHCs and then Complete Collections and trades. No omnibus for me except those that aren't collected anywhere else.
I was wondering, do you think I should have hopes for a Worldwide vol 4 OHC happening?
Also, do you think they will collect the stuff that's between JMS and the end of the clone years somehow when they are done with the Epic Collections?
I know it's impossible to know for sure but I could use an educated guess...
I'm glad I did. I think they are done with that OHC series for now. Perhaps an omnibus one day might be hopeful.

Yikes. I really want to read Dan Slott's run, but those books look like they are a mess in the way they are laid out. I imagine we will get omnis eventually, hopefully with everything in the correct order. Great videos though, these were really helpful.
I'm happy to have helped. The actual HCs aren't that bad, it's when you get to the event HCs that they are a mess.
Very helpful! Do you have an order for clone saga into the scarlet spiders? Also do you anticipate that we will ever get a superior Spider-Man complete omnibus?
Jake, part one had the reading order that contains the original clone saga. Superior Spidey omnibus is one of my most wanted omnis, so I'm hoping it comes out sometime.
Would you recommend the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man by J. Michael Straczynski Omnibus for someone who's never read that run? The only thing I know about JMS is Sin's past which from what I've heard, I can go without.
I completely recommend it. It's a great jumping on point for new readers. Seriously, you won't regret it. Sin's Past and OMD are the two that were editorial pushed and were crap, but don't let that take away from the otherwise great run.

I've noticed that in Lucky to be alive the sec volume finishes at 18 do you have to buy the smaller volumes to complete the series or has another volume came out? It's a bit crap to bring out 18 issues in hardback when there were only 20+ in the first place
Yeah some of those are only available in trade.

They are in Spider-man The Next Chapter volumes 1-3 and Revenge of the Green Goblin (2017 edition). See crushing krisis for a (slightly outdated) reading order of spider-man

10:40 that was there i began collecting the Dansih version of the Spider Man issues. xD I keept going for around 3 years before they stop it because of declines in the sale. :( :/

@@NearMintCondition In Denmark they did not collect them in TBP or anything like they to in the US. But one issue was a mix between 2 Amazing Spider Man issues and sometime some stuff from the other Spider series. That can sound pretty weired, but this was due to that here there is not a culture for collecting comics in the same amount and we are a small country. o_O
They did just stop puplishing Spider Man in Denmark back in 2011. :/

We have two smallere comic book shops here in Denmark who get the amarican issues home but physical comis are not that popular here anymore. :/
Clone conspiracy was great, but it's a damn shame that they didn't print clone conspiracy in reading order.
It really is, I've seen other collections that have done this in the past, but this is one of the worst.

I really like Marvel Putting a JMS Omni but if they don't include the whole "The Other" run in the second Omni I'm going to be disappointed. I know JMS didn't write the entire event but it would feel incomplete putting part of a story in a collection. I guess Slotts run doesn't have any kind of collection other than tpb/complete paperbacks? One thing I'm guessing The Gauntlet/Grim Hunt never got any sort of collection? I've looked around and can only find pieces of The Gauntlet. This collection reading order just shows me how much of Spider Man I've yet to catch up with. Normally I just read stuff I want but your reading order makes me want to read it in order!
The Gauntlet and Grim Hunt all got tpb releases and premier HCs.
Anyone out there currently watching this video, and maybe not completely current on continuity or just breaking into comic reading and collection I have great news! You will be exceedingly overjoyed to know that the widely abhorred story arc “Sins Past” has officially been best into submission with a high powered retcon-punch. Norman and Gwen never slept with each other, the twins were not natural and it was all a strange conspiracy crafted by an uploaded copy of Harry’s consciousness. Norman, Gwen, and MJ were all psychically manipulated and implanted with “memories” to believe and remember that Norman and Gwen had an affair and that Gwen’s pregnancy and delivery of the twins actually occurred. Also, the twins were total vat-grown imperfect clones using genetic material from Norman and Gwen.

There is an event called One More Day that reboots some of Peter's life and then we get Brand New Day. By the time Slott takes over he has a new status quo.

They don't have Epic Collections. They start being Complete Collections.

Just bought the 7 white spine OHC’s, already had the Spider-verse and the 3 superiors. Not only the books themselves are a mess, but the whole line also! Wasn’t it for this video I wouldn’t have had a clue which books to buy. Are there any more to get besides these Omar?

Infinity was done so much better it's printed in reading order. I have the same problem with blackest night when it comes to reading order.
That's what happens when the author designs the layout of the book, which is what Hickman has always done. It really also depends on the editor of the collected edition. Cory, the guy behind the X-men books is amazing with his mapping.
Awesome run through. The dumb numbering is why I DESPISE Marvel's constant yearly re-numbering...it was because people would be confused if the book had big numbers, but when you have 5 volumes of 1's,2's,3's etc, that's even WORSE if you are a casual fan just picking up books off the shelf. Anyways, I'm excited for the JMS omni, yet fearful that they will only put HIS stories in the books screwing up the crossovers. Both Marvel and DC are bad about that...I'd rather just a straight plain jane omni, vs a creator specific one if they aren't going to put ALL crossover issues NOT written by the one in it. Guess we'll have to wait and see how they handle it. I actually have a good majority of these and I didn't even realize LOL.
I'm on the fence about the JMS omni. It's one of my favorite runs, but I own the Best of!!!
I hear you....that's pretty much the first omni worth right? If so, I'd skip the omni since you have the OHC"s and just get the 2nd one on (that's what I think I'd do) I don't have the ohc's so I'm all over the first omni...I loved MOST of JMS's run with the exceptions of Sins Past (shame the first omni ends on that crapfes), The Other (just didn't like them trying to movie-fy Peter w/ the organic web shooters: which, if you know me, is one of the reasons I despise the current GotG...can't STAND when the comics choose to follow the movies. SOMETIMES things work but more often than not they done imho) and of course...F One More Day (but i blame Quesada more than JMS for that shitefest)

Hey Omar, I know this is a bit late but I'm thinking of getting the Best of Spider-man Vol1-5. Does the story flow nicely or is it all over the place jumping from one writer to another? Are they worth picking up in your honest opinion?
Better late than never, I say the first volume jumps a little bit, but by the time you get to volume 2 it is a damn smooth ride!

The Other and Civil War is when the JMS run took a turn into the shitter and then One More Day is where I stopped reading. Again.
I did come back for the Spider-Verse book, which I agree, is a mess. I have no idea why they would list the reading order in the book instead of just put the issues in the reading order. -_-

Absolutely, unless you just want the JMS stuff, then maybe the omnis might be a better route. But we don't know what volume 2 will hold.

Sadly it is. But all the JMS stories will be collected in the second JMS omnibus. Not sure how they'll do the Other though.
