The basic MLC mini can be configured to control any combination of 6 switches or sensors and any number of RGB LEDs, if all the existing LEDs are replaced by a string of addressble RGB LEDs.
Addressable RGB LEDs are simply a more advanced version of traditional RGB LEDs.Traditional RGB LEDS require 3 pins, an addressable string of LEDs require only only one pin and give much better control over individual LEDs, including color, brightness and pattern. They come in a variety of formats ranging in sizes from 1mm, 3mm, 5mm diameter, strips, circles or matrix. Any number can be wired in series and use 1 pin for control, releasing pins D2,3,4,and 5 for motors or sensors. Addressable LEDs are called using position in the string and RGB values 0 to 255. Brightness is adjustable using lower values for RGB.
Use Platformio libaries Adafruit NeoPixel or fastLED

It boggles me that Lego quit building electrically controlled servos and signals like you had with the 12 volt system. They should come with a new system with those power up hubs and stuff instead of forcing people to buy from third party companies. Nothing against that if there's no other option, but Lego had a good working system, so let's bring that back!
