Rotary Switch Info.
Be reminded that slow speed point motors rely on a constant current feed to hold the blades in position once the spring are removed from the points. At its simplest, each motor (motor 1 on the outer switch blades and motor 2 on the inner switch blades as per the diagram) could be controlled by separate polarity change-over switches if the operator is prepared to tolerate that the outer blades may trap the inner blades until the operator controls motor 1 to release the trap.
An improvement is to inhibit the feed to motor 2 when the blades are trapped by using a change-over-switch built into motor 1. However, this does not solve the case when setting route 3 where both blades simultaneously need to be set to the left as simultaneous operation can never be achieved elegantly with two separate switches.
Hence in diagram the independent switches are replaced by a 4 pole, 3 way rotary switch wired so that position 1 selects route 1, position 2 selects route 2, and position 3 selects route 3. If (say) motor 2 is physically reversed to better fit under the baseboard, remember feeds M1 and M2 need to be reversed.

Hello Charlie. That is something else. "Wallpapering your hall way through your letter box" ! I can't stop laughing either. What an expression. I will quit the video now, and come back when I can breathe properly again.
I’m so pleased that it put a smile on your face, RT. Regards, Charlie.
I also burst out laughing. Good thing didn't have a mouthful of tea
That would make an entertaining vid, though wouldn't it?
I have made an appointment with Charlie, at the Davis Hall, for his upcoming seminar on "How to wallpaper a hallway through the letter box". I had invited Charlie, on an all expenses paid visit to my home, to demonstrate the technique. Unfortunately for me, and fortunate for Charlie, he declined my generous offer due to prior commitments; not least of which was his ongoing task of producing more eminent and informative videos for us all to learn from.
I can’t stop laughing at “it’s like wallpapering your hallway through the letterbox” 🤣 made my day.
I’m so pleased that it made you smile. Stay safe, regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Its a medical joke - I won't go into details.... ;)
You just need arms like an orangutan
@@chrishopper340 rest assured, you don’t need to!
We had a chap move into his new house just up the road. My wife said he was a gynaecologist. How do you know that I asked her, and she said “ I saw him papering the hallway through the letterbox”.
"Wallpapering your hallway through your letterbox": Pure Chadwick Gold!
I know you were not keen on the 3-way points, but they do look great from above.
But only time will tell on their reliability. Regards, Charlie.
Lol!@ “two out of two; this’ll never last!” Is exactly what I was thinking!
Clearly, we were both surprised, RW. Regards, Charlie.
Everybody is correct .... "the humorous 'line of the week'"..... a very personal thank you for the good-natured humor .... something (the light moments) dreadfully needed these days.
You're a 'Class Act' and a fine person.
Thanks Kevin, that’s very kind of you to say so mate. Regards, Charlie.
The safety aspects are really important when dealing with materials used in modeling. I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer, not related to any materials or the like, but I will say use a mask when you do any cutting and the like. You don't want to take the risk. Cancer treatment is not a pleasant thing to go through.
On a more positive note, it's lovely to see how this section has come along and to see it all up and running. The whole layout is really coming together well
Thanks EA, for some sound advice. Regards, Charlie.
Nothing like having everything work while the cameras are on great video again.
It’s rare, but it does happen!
Regards Charlie
16:45 - As my old accounting teacher used to say many, many years ago “Boys, boys, don’t be so surprised! It’s a balance sheet, it’s SUPPOSED to balance!” Well done!
Thanks Ray, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie, Another thoroughly enjoyable video, good to see the freight yard taking shape. It was a pleasure to meet you on Sunday at Model World Live, it was a great show which showcased different types of modelling, Regards, David.
Thanks David, it’s always a pleasure to meet like-minded people. Good luck with your project, regards Charlie.
Just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and effort on these videos Charlie. I was at MWL myself but didn't see you to say so in person but your work is an amazing resource for someone getting back into modelling like myself. 👌👏
Thanks, Ben, perhaps we can meet up at the next one. Regards, Charlie.
Wonderful progress. Wiring can be tedious (and difficult) and I appreciate you not showing us most of it, but it's definitely acknowledged. It's like wiring a house. It's expensive, difficult and takes forever, and when done properly, you'll never have to mess with it again. Great video - thanks!
Thanks, MMS, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Love the idea of automation uncoupling! Thanks for walking us through it!!!
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards, Charlie.
A bit of everything in this one. Education and entertainment with added one liners, brilliant Charlie.
Thanks mate, I’m so pleased that you found it entertaining. Regards, Charlie.
Subscription checked. I'm still here ❤❤
That’s great news, buddy. Regards, Charlie.
Good progress on the Layout, my son and I are keenly following the build. We were at the NEC on Sunday, but sadly didn't spot you, but my son Daniel (4), spotted the helix demostration, and said "That's like Charlie's One", I was taken a back at first and wasn't sure what he meant, then I realised he was referring to yours. We had a lovely day at the NEC, Daniel particularly enjoyed the RC Lorries. Keep up the good work.
I’m so sorry that I missed you and Daniel. I do hope that you both enjoyed the show, perhaps we’ll meet up next time. Regards Charlie.
I admire the workmanship and attention to detail.
Thanks, Rob, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards, Charlie.
I have to say Charlie a massive thank you for all you videos... I've been watching you for a few months and I'm now building a heated room in my workshop for a layout... 3m x 4.5m ... once its finished I'll start designing my layout based on all your videos.... wish me luck.... Darren
Thanks Darren, that’s very kind of you to say so. Good luck with your project, regards Charlie.
Charlie, your wiring is a credit to you.
Thanks, Tom, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Well flipping heck! I’ve been in Canada 5 years and started building my layout a year ago. No wonder I can’t find MDF! I had no idea that it was banned. I’ve been stuck with hardboard of various shades. You learn something g new every day! Cheers Charlie.
Yes, I was rather shocked to learn that as well.
Regards, Charlie
Why has MDF been banned??

Another fantastic video update on your layout. I look forward to your next video. Enjoy your weekend ahead
Thanks Mark, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.

Have so much joy watching these videos Charlie. Thanks so much for another inspiring video.
Thanks acpw, that’s most kind.

Super job Charley, the standard of your wiring really is top draw.
Thanks Paul, that’s most kind.
Regards Charlie.
Well done Charlie in getting those uncouplers to work - love seeing the trains run!
Thanks G 99, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Thanks Charlie. I, too, have been thinking about tidying up the front of the layout with some kind of facia. I was thinking of screwing it on but that idea of hinges and magnetic catches looks spot-on.
Thanks Mike, I’m pleased that you liked my option. Regards Charlie
Another great video Charlie. The freight yard is coming along really nicely. Thanks for sharing. Roy.
Thanks Roy, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Top video again Charlie. Well explained and engaging. Thanks for being able to say hello on Sunday at the NEC i hope you manage to get your locomotive sorted
Thanks Peter, it’s great to meet up with like-minded people. I’m sure the loco will come good. Regards, Charlie.
Excellent Charlie it's all coming together, huge amount of wiring but it's done. all the best.
Yes, four Oaks, this one has been a struggle. Regards, Charlie.
Charlie, In a word FANTASTIC.....Cheers Greg
Thanks Greg, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie. Absolutely fascinating and instructional. Just going to go back to my push along wooden train set! Wouldn’t miss your channel for the world.
That’s very kind of you to say so Philip. Stay safe, regards Charlie.
Great Charlie, i do smile when you have various degrees of success like the uncoupling you sound surprised that its working. Your marvellous Charlie if i had a hat I'd take it off to you. Take care my friend, Eddy xx
Thanks Eddy, sometimes I even surprise myself! Regards Charlie
Hi Charlie, Thanks for doing that.
You’re very welcome. Regards Charlie.
Great Video Charlie lots of good progress on the freight yard
Thanks LT, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.

Amazing update Charlie!!! Many thanks for sharing! Cheers Onno.
Thanks, Onno. I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards, Charlie.
That wiring is amazing on that part of the layout. Yet again, a fascinating video, Charlie👍
Thanks JJ, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Thanks for the reminder about triplets. Really clear explanations as you go. Brilliant! James at DCC Train Automation will be delighted that you have managed to perfect automatic uncoupling.
Many thanks, John. You’re too kind. Regards, Charlie.
Another top educational and informative video Charlie. I completely understand the wiring spaghetti as things grow from a previous life a decade or so ago as a hi-fi and AV buff where things got added and taken away, ultimately a rewire of the whole caboodle needs doing but I've still yet to work on a modular concept so all this helps. Anyway that's off topic. Many thanks for sharing another great video.
Thanks Anthony, we both share the same historical stress injury! Regards Charlie
Brilliant video, and a thing with coupling up to a train , I was taught with the class 10 shunter I used to get to drive was I would get to about 6 foot from the train then stop the loco then move very slowly to ' buffer up ' and with a passenger train very important as you don't want to make the punters in the buffet coach spill their beer or teas ! 😂
Yes, Ian, that’s exactly right. Regards, Charlie.
Fantasic update Charlie, love the details you disclose. There are many out of this world layouts on UA-cam but admire the details you share both good and bad. So may dont do this and some people maybe put off the hobby as their efforts dont come out first time thinking that others do. Love the journey your taking us on. Look forward to the next trip to theatre takes place. Well done. 😁
Thanks QC, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Thank you for this Charlie. It is fascinating to think about the logistics of a freight depot. You are obviously planning this very carefully.
Thanks librarian, yes it does take a little thought. Regards, Charlie.
Congratulations it's a real milestone you've reached almost all your track works are complete, you must feel chuffed, it's been an amazing journey to share with you over the last few years, thank you, now onto ballasting and scenics 🌈
Yes, Leslie, it’s mos satisfying to complete the track work. Regards, Charlie.
Gday charlie , video 198 helped me with the lighting on the refueling shed i purchased from an english hobby shop which when comparing the english pound to our australian dollar can be quite expensive but a lot of british infrastructure can translate to our railway hobby. I also bought the lights from west hill wagon works and they are a great product but my ham fisted approach in handling these resulted in a few broken attempts but as you say we live and learn. I just want to say thanks for the very informative videos you put out charlie i look forward to every one of them and they are a source of inspiration. Cheers from Graeme
Thanks Graeme, that’s very kind of you to say so.
Stay safe mate, regards Charlie
Thanks for another great video, I love seeing the progress you’re making.
Hope you have a great time at the NEC
Thanks Stephen, and the show at the NEC was a great success. Regards, Charlie.
just to say if your Kadee uncoupler switch is the RS online item, then the green halo can be arranged to only light up when it is pressed and so long as the timer is running, so its normally off and shows when the uncoupler is live.
Yes, Chris, I understand your point of view however, once you pressed it, you don’t look at the switch, you’re just looking at the couplings. Regards, Charlie.
Sounds like the work schedule is mounting up. Well done Charlie
Thanks David, I’ll try and keep on top of it! Regards Charlie
Well done on completion of the yard trackwork mate. Arthur
Thanks, Arthur, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
morning Charlie , another unbelievable video shipmate . Loved the dark humour regarding letter boxes . Amazing freight yard , knowledge bomb !!!
Thanks Adrian, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Your right about MDF in Canada. Since January 7, 2023, CANFER prohibits anyone from importing, selling, or offering for sale a composite wood product containing formaldehyde unless they comply with its requirements.
Composite wood products that exceed emission limits cannot be sold or imported. I did not know this until yoy mentioned it i your video. Thanks Charlie
Many thanks for the clarification MS, much appreciated. Regards, Charlie.
Following your Accurascale Class 37 video, after I finished putting together my DCC Train Automation helix, I carefully ran the 37 up and down to see if it derailed. It looks like I may have avoided your issue, as it doesn't derail - but thanks to you, I was forewarned, so many thanks! I was intending to use flex track, but again following your advice, I gritted the teeth and ponied up for a full set of settrack. So glad I did - made life much easier. I'd like to say I managed a perfect job but it wasn't; I can't drill a straight hole to save my life and I found that the holes for the metal rods where a little off. Assuming that the laser cut curves are good (they are), I had to cut back the wooden plates that go over the rods and cover the ends of the section pieces to allow the curves/track to follow good circles despite the rods not being in exactly the right place. Not pretty but I may have got away with it. Also used your super handy excel helix spreadsheet. You're a star!
I'm visiting the NEC show on Sunday. Might see you around. All the best, Ed
That’s great news Ed, I’ll look forward to shaking your hand. Regards Charlie
@@ChadwickModelRailwayI’ve just remembered one thing about my helix which you might find useful. I had one joint between pieces of track, at a baseplate, where there appeared to be a slight vertical kink. I used a couple of bits of a super elevation kit from Westhill Wagon Works to smooth it out.
Good morning I got a fleeting glimpse of you at the Birmingham show on Saturday I think you were rushing off to the Hornby stand.I enjoyed the show a lot to see, friendly people ready to explain their product One or two faces from UA-cam all in all a good day out.
Thanks, Michael, sorry we didn’t have a chance to chat. Regards, Charlie.
Whoops, serves me right for posting a comment before watching the complete video. You are right about the high-end decoders, I put an ESU Locosound into my Class 08 (Farish) shunter and the shunt function alone for me justified the cost.
I couldn’t agree more Paul. However, understandably some folks just cannot justify the extra outlay. Regards Charlie
Hi again Charlie
Love it.
Never thought shunting could be that much fun.
Your wiring and soldering are magic.
Can't imagine you losing your mojo.!
Do you occasionally go out the backyard and Just go "Aaaaaahhhhh" and
Then restart? I do.
Thanks again.
Best value Nine dollars ever.
Howard, that’s very kind of you to say so, and your support is very much appreciated. Regards, Charlie.
As always a great video, very informative even though I don't have anything like as complexed as your wonderful layout. Two loops of track 2nd and 3rd radius, and a couple of sidings.... DC/DCC.... DC for test/running in of new locos, and for older locos that don't have a DCC socket.... ... but it keeps me happy!
The fact that it brings you joy Mike, is all that really matters.
Regards, Charlie
Great fact filled issue this one Charlie thank you
Thanks John, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards, Charlie.
Great video .Your knowledge of electronics is amazing .Way beyond my skill set. looking forward to seeing progress on the branch line .
Thanks David, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Nice work. Looking forward to what scenery 🌲🌳🛣is in store.
Thanks, Andrew, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it. Regards, Charlie.
Charlie, great progress on the freight yard. I really like the idea of the hinged facia board, it makes access so much easier, but I feel for you with the limited space under the track, that is tight. The next series on the Brach station, and surrounds should be very interesting, and I am looking forward to watching progress, and what new tricks and tips you will share.
I am not sure what it is about getting older, but Supper, or dinner, just after 5pm appears to be a thing, I get really cranky if dinner is late, when I was younger, any time was fine.
Thank you for sharing, I really appreciate the videos, cheers, and stay safe, Michael
Thanks Michael, so pleased that you found interesting. Dinner has become supper as time has gone by!
Regards Charlie.
When I see all that wiring and control systems, I'm very glad I just wanted to model a simple Highland Station with a passing loop and a few sidings. If I tried something as complex as your freight yard, I would probably end up blowing not only the fuses in the house, but in the street as well.😫
Thanks John, but I do appreciate that sometimes simply layouts can be more interesting. Regards, Charlie.
I doubt BR/Network Rail do such a professional job as you! Great video...
That’s very kind of you to say so Kieth. Regards, Charlie.
If your experience is anything like mine, I get lots of ‘suggestions’ which sometimes sound like orders. On thing I find myself saying to you, however, is that if you mount all your boards and terminal strips on your facia it sure is a lot easier to do the wiring. You can then just sit in a comfortable chair and wire away. I started out trying to hide all that stuff, but eventually came to the conclusion it is actually an interesting part of the railway. Just a thought, Charley
Thanks, FH, you make a valid point. Regards, Charlie.
Modelling at an entirely different level, but enjoyable to watch and the progress is amazing.
Thanks, Alex, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
a number of those books under your goods yard are sitting on my bookshelf just to my right... good video Charlie!
That’s reassuring, Kev, perhaps we are kids are the same decade. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie wow all coming along nicely, i have changed all my rolling sock except carriages to magnetic ones another brand not hunt coupling. so it will have to be the hand of god { i should say hand of Tone } uncoupling my wagons.though must say Charlie your uncoupling method is brilliant at really adds to the realism well done. I enjoyed the video very much thank you.
Thanks, Tony. That’s most kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
As usual first class video. When tracklaying try using thin double sided tape instead of those pesky screws . Easily lifted if you need to before gluing down, and so much quicker
Thanks, Paul, but as my track laying comes to an end, it’s all rather late! Regards Charlie
Another interesting and entertaining video, Charlie. Thanks. Looking forward to see some train testing.
Thanks Rob, so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards, Charlie.
Great railroad Charlie!
Thanks, HW, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
I've got to find ways to use that phrase "like wallpapering through a letter box" fantastic! 😂
You’re right,Giggy, it’s an epic.
What I liked most was your surprise that everything went so well 🤣😂Then of course you set things straight by parking the Hymek on the blades stopping the points switching and the universe was back in balance! 😉
I see what you mean about the wallpapering through a letter box analogy, but at least you can access that circuit board easily and the slide in fastener is a great solution 👍 The facia boards will top the job off nicely and I like the simplicity of the design, and I hope you saw the irony in that the design you had does actually resemble a letterbox! 🤓
Didn’t see you at Brum sadly but hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. It was a long day out from East Essex but well worth it all the same. Cheers Charlie 👍🍻🍀
Thanks Tim, and I’m so sorry that our paths never crossed. Perhaps next time. 🤞
Another great episode - I love to see a bit of shunting. Thanks for all the tips about Kadees, too. I'm still early in my build and so I'm on the look out for coupling solutions beyond a bit of bent wire!
I hope you don't mind my asking, but which do you prefer - building the layout, or operating? I have a bad feeling that I'm spending years building something which when finished will just gather dust - but in the meantime I'll love all the building work. :)
That’s a great question RC, I do enjoy both. But running the layout is always something to share. Regards, Charlie.
Awesome job, Charlie. It's all looking good 👍 great work.
Thanks Gaz, that’s very kind of you to say so. Regards, Charlie.
Another fine missive Charlie, thankyou.
I find Velcro very good for facial panels and various board attachments. Some might find the idea useful!
Although, there are some instances ( your panel for example) where hinges are a more robust method.😊
Thanks Peter, that’s an idea that I hadn’t thought of. Regards, Charlie.
Another fantastic video. You've must have been a teacher in a previous life😊
No sorry, but a little bit of instructing in the Navy. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie
Be careful buddy that wallpaper paste did narff make a mess when I wallpapered through my letter.
box.
Brilliant bit of planning Charlie. Lot of electrical things to sort out, once that's done best part starts with the scenics.
Thanks Charlie, great vlog as usual.
....Pete....
Thanks Pete, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video.
Regards, Charlie
Looking forward to seeing it ballasted and some scenics done
No pressure then! Regards, Charlie
Another great video Charlie. It's been interesting and very helpful over the last few weeks with laying those slips and three ways. Track laying over the board joins seems novel to me as all the layouts I've come across have the rails cut with the board join. So you've got me thinking as the layout I'm starting will be as permanent as yours, so maybe I won't complicate it with track cut at baseboard joints.
Cheers, Phil B
I’m so pleased that you found it interesting, Phil. If I have ever had to move house, I would simply cut the tracks across the board joints. Regards, Charlie.
Great work Charlie. I will be using the ‘triplets’ concept on my layout but as it’s a smaller facility I may go with ‘twins’. I am also going to try and emulate your neat wiring but probably won’t be quite as tidy 🙄
Now that’s what I call sensible planning David. Good luck with your project, regards Charlie.
Great progress Charlie 👍.
(Since buying a multitool I find I hardly use my jigsaw & saves drilling a hole to start)
That’s something I shall have to look into Ian. Regards, Charlie.
Great progress Charlie ! 👏
Thanks Lee, I’m so pleased that you enjoyed it.

Thanks Charlie, another excellent video. The only thing missing was “what could possibly go wrong” and then nothing did! What is the world coming to? Enjoy, the show at the NEC, new shows should be encouraged but unfortunately I’m on holiday in Norfolk so off to support the North Norfolk heritage line instead and of course the local model shop Smiths.
Thanks, Kevin, we all like a good model railway show. Regards, Charlie.
MDF is still available in Canada, haven't heard anything about it being banned here. All the major reno stores carry it. I agree though, the dust is nasty. Cheers

I do not envy you doing wiring in that very confined space. The painted rails look very nice.
Call me anything you want but don't call me late for dinner !
Thanks, Dave, a man and his supper should not be separated. Regards, Charlie.
Amazing stuff Charlie. 👍

My oldest Brother who has lived in the USA since 1968 sent me over a lot of model railway items including a “KADEE” uncoupler. Not sure if all of the parts are there but will experiment with this as I can see from your experience they have great potential 😇
Give it a go David, you have nothing to lose. Regards Charlie
Well said sir
Thanks Peter, that’s most kind. Regards, Charlie.
Great video as usual, the statement that MDF is banned in Canada is incorrect. Though you are correct, that PPE (face masks) need to be worn because it is made of wood flour, not good for the lungs. In Canada they have severely restricted the levels of formaldehyde (used in the resins to bond the wood flower together) emission from the product. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogenic chemical. It is found in small amounts in all woods so it can not be completely eliminated. You should check the specs in your plywood because formaldehyde has been know to be used in the resins used to glue the plys together.
ThanksGeoffrey, that’s most helpful. Regards, Charlie.
Nice job Charlie. You might not think so but your writing skills excellent, all well thought out and executed. Could you rewire my brain when you get some spare time!
Thanks, Kym, I think it’s the technical challenge that keeps my mind ticking over. Regards, Charlie.
Didn’t see you today Charlie at the NEC, although did see Donegal Dad, Jen, Rob from Little Wicket, Richard from Accurascale and of course Pete Waterman,
Sorry, I did not cross Jason, I also didn’t see Rob. Regards, Charlie.
Thanks for another great video. I too have a helix and an Accurascale class 37 and a derailment issue. To solve that (as often works - by walking away and thinking about it as I am sure you do too) what I did was to put 1mm of cant across the width of the helix. What I did was to monitor the 37 as it climbed and then found the offending area. The design of my helix is slightly different to your's as the distance between each level is maintained by a fixed length spacer. I therefore just put a 1mm packer beneath each outer leg and voila - problem solved. I guess you could just undo the location nuts and raise the top and bottom nut by 1mm and retighten in the offending area (you might then have to do that round the outside of all the levels and I appreciatedthat might by a pain with threaded bar. Anyway, just sharing a thought in case it helps.
Great Charlie! It's so much fun to see this come to life. I'm not a huge fan of the magnets, or at least I haven't been, but it's really great to see them do their thing. I'm probably too stuck on the old skewer sticks that I see people use in other videos. Maybe more of an American thing? I wonder if it would make N scale switching less fiddly, but then I'd need to make sure all the couplers work that way.
Thanks, Andrew, they can be a little challenging at times. Regards, Charlie.
Still here in NZ lol. Great videos Charlie. Regards Bernie
Thanks Bernie, I’m so pleased that you found it interesting. Regards, Charlie.
Charlie: Yet another informative video! Did I notice clips that allow you to remove the whole yard section?
Yes, can you did, I thought that would be the best semi permanent method. Regards Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway Charlie: I usually figure such out after I have had to disassemble something because I did not make provision for being able to remove an inaccessible piece. That is a very busy location with lots of stuff going on. Again thanks for sharing with us mere mortals.
Happy to buy you a Coffee on Sunday, see you tomorrow.
I do hope that you enjoyed the show TS. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway I did Charlie and a few people pointed out the area they last saw you, but never managed to track you down, shame, till next time.
Charlie, my head is spinning. Wow. What you're doing is amazing and what I would aspire to achieve. Would you mind telling me how big you layout is in terms of feet in a rectangle please. Why I'm asking is that I'm just about to start from scratch. I retired at Christmas so now have time but am hoping to put a new building at the back of my property in the form of a train station to house my project so at the moment I have no constraints. Thanks Rod
Hi Roger, it’s 5 m wide by 5.3 m long. Regards, Charlie.
@@ChadwickModelRailway thanks. Your layout looks spectacular and I cant wait to get started on my own
Hi Charli . Another great video . I use Kadee couplers on the end of passenger and goods rakes . Very interested in the solenoid uncoupler units you can fit to locos. Are they part of the kadee range ? Not seen them in my local model shop here in Western Australia. I use the kadee between tracks uncoupler magnets but of course you are limited to only being able to uncouple over where these magnets are fitted . Having a device fitted to a loco presumably means you could uncouple anywhere on the layout? Where did you get them from? Love your layout and following the progress you are making . Andy Bashford
Hi Andy, no they are completely separate item.
Please check out Mckinley Railway video number 31 for details.
Regards, Charlie
Hi Charlie your layout wiring is amazing again good video l have done a lot of wallpapering through a letterbox on my layout over the years because of no forward
I should have found you channel before l started my layout.
Small point when you/we turn on our controllers you/we become the signalman therefore we regulate the layout not play trains 😊👨✈️cheers Stu
Thanks James, I’m so pleased that you find the videos useful. Regards, Charlie.
Thanks
Thanks Stephen, that’s most generous and I appreciate it enormously. Regards, Charlie.
Hi Charlie, in video 104 you mentioned ground signals. Are you planning to add any in the freight yard?
No Stephen, only signals to access and leave the yard. All the points would be operated manually in reality.
Regards Charlie
Could i suggest putting a string or small chain from the vertical 4x2 to drop down panel to save wiring if a hige should loosen or too much weight is acciedntly applied to panel when open
Yes, that is a good point. Regards, Charlie.
