omg thank you so much for this! I couldn't clone the drive using Chimploader and tried everything to make it work and nothing, so nulling the key and rebuilding was the way to go and worked!!! thanks again!!!
You won't need any tool to null the eeprom, just rocky5's softmod, In the video I show how you can use xboxhdm to build a new hard drive and lock it with a nulled eeprom. I did make a video on xboxhdm if that is what you need: ua-cam.com/video/y_n8kEQfgdE/v-deo.html
I'm with you up until 3:12, where you boot to a Linux, and then run a terminal program. I'm working on installing a larger hard drive, so I believe I need to do this step next? However, I dont know how to get the terminal program you ran, and I cant seem to figure out how you got it? Could it be any linux distro? Could I use a Raspberry Pi 3, with a usb/ide adapter? (Running raspbian) Thanks
You don't need to do that part, I was just demonstrating how to rebuild a hard disk with a null eeprom. If you have an issue with the hard disk you can watch part 17 on xboxhdm. The files are in the description of that video. ua-cam.com/video/y_n8kEQfgdE/v-deo.html
Hey Tech, is there a video you do about FTP setup? I noticed that it looks like at about the 2:35 mark you go do something re: FTP'ing but is this necessary? I ask because it seems like I missed a step somewhere. Thanks again!
I don't think I made anything for FTP yet, you don't need to back it up since the eeprom has been nulled and the hdd key is all zeroes. But it isn't a bad idea to have it if something does happen. Thanks.
Thank you for your brilliant work. I want to know how you transferred the backup files using Filezilla and can I use IDE to usb adapter to connect the old HDD because my computer has only sata ports.
I always just connect my xbox to ethernet and in unleashx it will tell you the ip address. Then download Filezilla and install it on your pc. Type the ip address and username/password are both xbox. Then you can drag and drop to and from your xbox. You can also use a usb to ide adapter and xplorer360 but I wouldn't recommend it. You would need to unlock and relock the disk and the software isn't the greatest to work with. Seems to crash a bit on modern windows.
Let’s say I have a hard drive all setup the way I like it and want to copy the hard drive and put it into another Xbox how would I do that? Copy hard drive how? Then would I have to null ?
I do this with every xbox, null or uno the eeprom, then unlock the hdd that you want to copy, say you have a 2TB drive you built up perfectly. Now this hdd is unlocked, plug it into a PC and then what I do is plug in an external 10TB also, use the program HDD Raw Copy to save a copy of the perfect 2TB image, it saves it as an image file on your external hdd. Get a new 2TB hdd, plug it into the pc and restore that 2TB image. Its best to use the same exact hdd model if possible but found it isn't necessary as long as the partitions on the drive aren't 100% full, try to keep at least 3 gbs free on the last partition. After its done, lock the hdd with xboxhdm and the nulled eeprom. Plug it into your new xbox and you are done. I actually don't even bother with softmodding anymore. I get a new xbox, I use a serial to eeprom cable, extract the eeprom, change the eeproms xbox hdd key, flash the eeprom back, and then its good to go. I also unlock the old disk and back up its data but this is so much quicker for getting xboxes up and running.
@@techhoarder3010 just sound complex to me. I would love to do this. I was one time a hoarder of xboxes. I have since stopped buying as i have so many now. I had a plan to mod and try and make a few $ but that plan never happened. Now I got at least 20 maybe more. I do have one xbox that was chipped and has a 2tb hard drive setup in it. I'm going to be retiring in a year or so and maybe have more time. I'm not sure if I should try and mod the xboxes or piece meal them out for people who need parts. You mention about serial to eeprom cable, ive seen those before. I'm still confused as to how to do it. ( I get a new xbox, I use a serial to eeprom cable, extract the eeprom, change the eeproms xbox hdd key, flash the eeprom back, and then its good to go. I also unlock the old disk and back up its data but this is so much quicker for getting xboxes up and running.) would love to do this !! LOL, did you do a video on this? would love to see it... thanks for the videos. Very clean and very easy to understand. Thanks for your time making them. Oh I might retire to the Philippines and maybe take some over there, I would probably donate many of them as its a poor country. Many have never seen xbox before....thanks again for your knowledge and sharing.
Thanks for the comment, Yes you can just use a serial eeprom cable. I'm considering making such a video using a modern computer and a serial to usb cable. I think I make it happen but currently just using an older XP machine with a COM header on board. Once you have one hard drive you can unlock it and clone it to either a network share or external drive, then plug your new drive in and clone it. Lock the drive and its all ready to go into your xbox. Thanks
Correct, nulling has changed to being all ones now. This was done for insignia compatibility. If you really want to null you can use config magic to null your eeprom, my new recommendation is to set it to all ones. Thanks.
why does nk patcher set my hdd key to 32 1's instead of 0's. I'm getting really tired of trying since theres so little information on the internet, i hope you reply cos your my only hope p.s: I'm running v1.1.8 and my drive is a stock 8gb seagate also my console is v1.1
I'm having same thing. it has "change hdd key" instead of "null key" so it's all 1's but my understanding is as long as that new drive has same key as working locked drive it it should work right?
I need help haha. I have my EEPROM saved to my PC fortunately. I went through the steps of unlocking my HDD with Configmagic. Thought I nulled the key but upon restart I'm greeted with Error 05 Service required. I realize my mistake but I need help rebuilding my HDD with my backed up EEPROM. Pretty sure my xbox still has the stock bios somehow.
Ok, I have a video on xboxhdm. Watch that and pick one of the methods in the video. You should be able to just relock your hdd with the eeprom you backed up. Good luck.

Definetly looking forward to the videos on extracting eeprom from an xbox with a bad harddrive :D
Did you see this one on how to do it with a Raspberry Pi? ua-cam.com/video/FSe89adGfR0/v-deo.html
Any footage of the actual tool connected to the computer and the Xbox in this???

Thank you! I watched your video & another one & figured out what you were doing so I did back it up 😄. And I got the ftp up & running. Cheers!!

I use pony prog for instant eprom extraction i can extract several OG xbox eproms at a time, very easy.
Yes, same here. Super easy to extract eeproms even when the dvd drive or hard drive are broken. 👍
