- Empty A380 weighs 277 tons. It is capable of taking off with a mass of 560 tons, and when it comes in for landing, its weight can be up to 387 tons.
In radio conversations with the controller and other aircraft, the crew of the Airbus A380 always refers to itself as "superheavy". This is not pride in its superiority, but a safety requirement: the huge A380 leaves behind a very powerful turbulent flow in flight, which can be dangerous for other aircraft if they do not keep a considerable distance from this flying "behemoth".
