My Pioneer SX-1980 has 22k or 24,000uF filter caps(beer cans) x 4 surrounding the 40lb toroidal transformer, the unit weighs 100lbs +/-. Yeah, I can see the need to discharge caps for sure😉 Nice job Joe..
Beautiful unit.. I have one of these, I have carefully remade the wooden case, (mine had SAME flaking dark woodgrain vinyl on particleboard) reusing the metal part.. and it's mahogany.. super pretty! love love looking at it as much as hearing it. Any maint. you give it pays off in clean perfomance. Nice job Joe as always.
The customer may be getting distortion at half volume rotation because they are running a source like a cd player. As you know, cdp's have a higher output than a tape deck or turntable. I realize Joe that you know this. Possibly the customer does not. Happy Holidays to you and your family. 🎉
Good point! I'm not sure but the own stated after I serviced it, it didn't do it again...maybe something wasn't hook up properly at home or perhaps DC voltage needed tune down alot... I know I didn't find anything major wrong with it.
Weird looking heat sink. 87wpc doesn't seem like much above it's rated 80wpc am I wrong or missing something? I'm not anything more than a hifi enthusiast so not very technical.

A nice Pioneer Amp. I see my old SX-780 on the rack in the back. The shop setup looks great. Great job as usual.
Yeah...lots of cool old gear back there. But that's not your sx780...that's gone to Boston

Sounds like you did a great job on your case!

You are right about the source being a possible culprit!
Hello Joe, I always follow and enjoy your videos. Could it be possible the speakers owner is using has a role that cause this clipping?

Very well explained.
Glad you found it helpful!
