Between this and that Creator/Pirates set's alternate build, this has been a good year for giant brick-built skulls.
Yes 2020 has been an amazing year so far in LEGO perspective, especially for non-licensed stuff (Ninjago, Monkey kid and Pirates specifically).
And another bad year for Chinese fans of brick built skulls.

The only thing that sucks is they cancelled the Lego Modular series... Although since the Diner those sets began to go downhill... Was hoping for another Ninjago City build though...

How lego wants you to play it is pretty bland, but I kind of agree with you on that.

They did a similar thing in the Ninjago City set :)

They used that same technique in Ninjago City at the crab restaurant.
They dont put pieces to stress, and they fit nicely, so, I'd say it's always been legal ahah

The official game is a lot like Dungeons & Dragons. The rules are somewhere in LEGO.com, but I think that the box or instructions have a QR code for the rules

My thought exactly. It’s going to be a difficult call whether I can squeeze this set in my budget.
Watching this just after your Mario starter set review really highlights the differences in target audiences. The Mario sets and these Ninjago sets have a similar idea of moving a figure from space to space but the Mario sets are clearly aimed at a younger audience. Considering the building techniques, the piece diversity, the display-ability and the complexity of gameplay you can really tell that the Mario sets are aimed at younger kids whilst Ninjago is more towards the teen bracket.
Even if the show isn’t. Although, the official game, which I think is somewhere on LEGO.com, is a d&d type roleplaying game.

Every ninjago season uses the same recycled plot- I still watch them though and the LEGO sets are amazing

This wave of ninjago is the closest thing to Castle theme since a while. I really love all those rock paths through the lava!

Just bought this set as my first ever ninjago set. I didn't use the happy sticker or the game stickers but the set is excellent. I'm using it to create an evil corner to my lego world. Genuinely gutted I missed the modular ninjago sets as they would go well to create an Eastern district.

This looks like an awesome “secret villains lair” set, for Batman, Marvel or heck, even Mega Bloks He-Man.
This season is just epic, and We get Cole's bagstory too.

Great Set! Glad LEGO put in more minifigures with alternative faces and adding more detail!
This is truly impressive in all senses. Great design of the set, awesome play/interactive function, seems to have interesting building techniques, good versatile pieces and colors, great selection of minifigs... As much as i love hiddenside and creepy/monster themes, it becomes SO HARD to justify buying the Mystery Castle over this one. Im just in love with this.
And lowkey thinking on adapting it to work with the Super Mario course system
Ninjago in my opinion is the best Theme Lego has ever made because they first started by a single season with 2 episodes and sets that started off such a great theme. Building a story for such a great theme today.

I adore the fact that it’s a board game, but that function doesn’t obstruct the fact that is can just be played with normally. I am getting this set, the skull dragon, Zanes mino and the journey to the skull dungeons in like 11 days. Can. Not. Wait
I got this for Christmas and this is my favorite ninjago set I have. Maybe even my favorite set.
To anyone interested in this set. Get it! Especially if you have the other expansions. It gets HUGE. It merely fits on my shelf. And I only have this for show. I don't even use it for play but it just looks so dang awesome.

The door mechanism is from Elves Ragana's Castle. It's a good design and I'm glad they kept it after all these years.

Obviously haven't watched the video yet, but I honestly can't tell if the title of the video is a compliment or insult to the set.

This set impresses me in so many ways. The amount of detail in the build is really great and we don't see structures and landscapes as good as this that often. I love how the geared mechanism spans a lot of the build and how it's not obtrusive at all (Looking at you helicarrier!). The board game aspect is cool too and yet it's still a great set if you don't want to play the board game.

Based on J2G's review of another set, the game plays just like Heroica, with the way characters move and attack monsters. If Lego had made Heroica like this, I think the sets might have sold better. Great review as always Jang!
It's cool that if you get this and 71721, you get all 6 main ninjas, the main villains and both special swords... Of course, they're the most expensive of the wave, but if you get them, you have them all!
So is this a bit like a board game then?
It is. The sets can all be connected together and you get a simple playmat with each to expand the play area is you want as well. JANG showed it in his first review of a set from this series I believe. Journey to the Skull Dungeon I believe the set was called.

I really like how this set looks! The ninjas look a little weird, but the sets in this wave have generally been very good in my opinion. The boardgame approach was a fresh idea, and i like it!
This is a really good structure set. So many features and mechanism and it doesn’t cause the look to be bad.
Unlike the recent avenger helicarrier this set mechanism is well integrated.
With all these special pieces, advanced mechanisms, and great detailing, I almost want to get it and I don’t even watch Ninjago

Lego mustifar:plain, side desk build with an ok play feature, for da kids with 2 minifigs
Lego Ninjago: huge build not plain, lots of minifigs, for all ages, great play features.

You Should Do A Complete Wave Review for this Ninjago Wave
If you collect all 6 sets, each Ninja will have their own personal stand, that’s why they don’t give every Ninja a stand in every set.
Oh, that's interesting. I still agree that they should have a base for each character though. Most people won't get all the sets so being able to play with all the ninjas if you only got one set just makes sense. Also, with extra bases you could make your own character to play with. Which is both very LEGO and and very D&D.
About the cell cage. I would invert the katanas postion so the prisoner cant push hi way out without cuting himself
I got this set it’s great but on the right side of the skull u need the journey to the skull scorcerers set which I have to make it loook fully complete
