This showed up in my recommended videos, and I had to click. I haven't been to Adventureland in over 10 years, probably closer to 15. It's crazy to see how much has changed, but comforting to see just as much staying the same. I might have to find my way out there again some time. It really has been too long.
Born and raised here. Adventureland was the best as a kid. It did have its issues a few years ago and was bought by a company a couple years ago but they have made some great improvements! Glad to see it looking good again.
Bernie was the original mascots. He was a hound dog. They used to have people dress up in costumes and walk around the entrance area and by the carousel. Bernie was THE Adventureland figure .
The Underground was the first “coaster” I ever rode as a kid, followed by the Outlaw. I’ve been going to A-land since I was four years old, but it’s been several years now. Hope you had a great time!
Crazy how many of my favorite rides are gone now. Silly silo, the dragon, log ride, raging river, probably more. I’ll have to go back, it’s probably been 10 years since I’ve been
I dont usually comment on youtube but I do have to shout out my fellow haunt friends at the Slaughterhouse Haunted House in Des Moines who were the ones in charge of reprogramming the Underground. Im so proud of them being recognized for their programming skills in general!
Nice, I've been riding the Underground for like 25 years now (I even remember the dolphins), and I've been to multiple Slaughterhouse attractions. They're pretty good!
Love love loooooove what they did with the Underground! The intro was fantastic, and my favorite was the lanterns added throughout the ride. It's a nice little added touch of detail that goes a long way
AWESOME AMUSEMENT PARK ! LOVE the UNDERGROUND ride, that was different and Cool ! I can see why KenneyWood bought it. KenneyWood is another Cool Old Park. Enjoyed this, Thank You, Carpetbagger ! 😊
The underground is actually built over the pools where the dolphin shows used to be. After the dolphin shows left they had a high dive show for a few years.
I’ve been at Adventureland from the time frame 2009-2018 and honestly it’s kind of sad to see all the rides I’ve been on as a kid end up being replaced or removed. Like the splash over, inverter, log ride(replaced with a better ride) and the raging river being iconic for the longest wait time at the park. Nostalgia really hits here
I went to adventureland last year and I was so EXCITED to hop on my favorite ride the underground ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT IT WAS CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION!!! I was so disappointed but what can you do! I am so happy that it is renewed and restored and back up and running! None of my friends like the ride because they thought it was slow and scary. I actually hate dark rides so I don't know why I love this ride SO MUCH!
Hey Jacob. I first saw you on Adam Woo's channel. And I must say I love the small tiny little parks that you do! I've never seen such an in-depth review of some tiny little parks
So close to 500k!!! That's amazing Jacob. You had around 1k when I first subbed. Your content continues to be fun and enjoyable! I challenge anyone to go back and watch some of the older videos. They are a lot of fun too!
Bets on Carperbagger at Lost Island tomorrow. Much more thrill rides there. Palace Entertainment filled Adventureland with kiddie rides when they took over.
Nice video. Bernie is a St. Bernard so therefore Bernie. Too bad you missed the longest running magic show at a theme park. Ben Ulin's Comedy and Magic Show at Sam Adams Saloon, this is the 36th season for Ben.. Sooooo good. Also, the pit in Underground is the old diving pool and dolphin show pool from back in the day, the Underground is built over the old concrete audience seating, that's why it slopes down. This park also has a full waterpark, entrance by the Outlaw Roller Coaster. Looks like it was a fun filled day.🙂
I remember back in the day when it was raining, we went on the water rides. I figured if you were going to get wet anyway, you might as well do it with style. Just a thought.
Thanks for visiting Adventureland again. I hope you enjoyed my home park! Dragon Slayer isn't at intense on the body as it looks. My son and I actually enjoy it when we spin A LOT! And yes, Potato Patch fries are amazing!
Hell yeah man! I wish I could’ve seen you, I’m goin there next week. I’ve grown up in Iowa, and the underground has always been my favorite ride there as a kid, I had been wondering what the renovation was gonna look like. I really appreciate you showing the internet something only niche groups of people find interesting lol
This brings back lots of memories! When the Underground first opened when I was a kid, it was pretty intricate! Unfortunately, the upkeep must've really cost a lot because the animatronics and effects downgraded over time. I remember thundering rocks that would shake overhead as you passed under them (I think it was reduced to just the sound effects of rocks rumbling). There was a full skeleton animatronic that would swing around to laugh at passing carts. (It got downgraded to a stationary skeleton with varying outfits at some point). I haven't been there in some time, but so glad you had the chance to check it out to review!
Haven't been to Adventureland in almost 20 years, I forgot just how similar they made the entrance look to Disneyland hahaha. My main memories of it involve getting really sick after the mom and daughter that my mom and I were seated with spun the Tilt-A-Whirl super fast, as well as being so skinny (I was like 5) that my mom was scared that I was going to go flying out of the car on The Tornado
The "Dragon Slayer" ride is named so because it REPLACED the ride known as "The Dragon". This trivia brought to you from someone who can see the Ferris wheel most nights from my home!! Hope you enjoyed your time in Iowa!
I remember working the pig a few years ago. The reason they closed it was because it was the most miserable experience anyone could have. They sold bad food (water, popcorn and very chewy bacon) and nobody every went to buy anything. The inside was insulated, so during the summer it was so hot in there I honestly was surprised I didn’t get heat exhaustion. There was no AC and when I worked in it, it was painted black (which attracted more heat). The worst part was that everyone would hit the head of pig walking by which caused it to vibrate inside and make a loud noise….. I can safely say these were some of the reasons it is no longer a stand, it was just not popular and it is too small to reliably sell anything since when you add too many cooking devices, it heats the insides up and makes it too hot.
The monster is actually gravity and they had to take out gliders because they were in way of the monster air space. The were there when the water plume used to be there (cars used as the planters) *I am a born and raised Iowan that lives south of Altoona 🥰😇
Are you stopping at the John Wayne museum? It’s inside of one of John Wayne’s old family homes. It’s in Winterset Iowa. There’s also the Villisca Axe Murder house. It’s in Villisca Iowa. Omg! Squirrel Jail in Council Bluffs Iowa. The story is kinda dark and creepy. It’s one of the first one man guarded jails. It had a rotating jail cell system with one guard in the middle controlling it. It was shut down because back in the day there was no way to tell if an inmate had limbs sticking out when it was turning. Many inmates lost limbs and even died due to the setup of the jail. Now it’s a museum. My facts may not be 100% on the history. But I’ve never been and it’s been awhile since I researched it. Shrine of the Grotto Redemption. In West Bend Iowa. It’s so beautiful and amazing. It was built by a single priest, who then recruited one other priest at the end of his lifespan to make sure the grotto was finished. It has 9 rooms. There’s also a cute mom and pop hotel right across the street ran by the sweetest older couple.
I love Adventureland! I haven't been there in quite a few years. Lost Island is now closer for me to go. I might have to get there before the end of the summer.
Carpetbagger! I love you! My name is Chad. I commented a while back and you responded to my message about how positive it was. Well…I’ve been watching you from the start and I enjoy you, your personality, and care to making some of the best content on the internet. When you switched to this new camera, it really brought the picture and sound to a new level. It is awesome. I hear you and the atmosphere in my 5.1 digital surround system and actually changes speakers and hear everything I’m perfect sound and the picture is outstanding. This one video is great and I wanted to comment on the pov spots that you have the picture pointed at the attraction and listening to the atmosphere and ride….the still camera no talking shots. It is incredible. I really felt like I could walk through the television and be right there. That park is so clean! I also enjoy you and your narrating. You crack me up when you do a photo op and you do the multiple poses and the soft shoe dance..I laugh so hard! You are hilarious. It reminds me of Benny hill for some reason…..thank you Carpetbagger…keep going! You are awesome!
Love the new intro. Its cool that they leaned into the creepiness of the old animatronic that was broken half the time. Also, the smell of the wooden structure in the line for this ride is iconic.
Omg 2022...me and my brother take off on a 4 park tour...Adventureland was the first...that day...100 degree...probably 120 in the park...lol the paratrooper was a giant fan we didn't mind waiting in line for..mand the dole whip...wow! Heading there this fall for phantom
thanks for the video. this is amusement park i have been to the most. only live couple hours away just havent been since 2016 definitely need to plan another trip. last time we went monster had just opened.
18:35 Really cool spooky 👻 effects inside “UNDERGROUND” dark ride at Adventureland! (Have not been here in years. I’m originally from Iowa. It would be nice to return someday.) 👍
I also thought of A-Train/Prince Albert from WWE. Lol It was nice seeing everybody happy on the carousel. : ) Shakin' Bacon is an adorable name for a ride. I hope Jenn can ride The Underground with you one day! ♥
It’s technically a safety hazard for a rider to have a phone in their hand/hands while on the Underground or any major coaster. Adventureland has a zero policy on this. I never knew there was an Altoona, Iowa 🤔 Underground reminds me of Black Diamond at Knoebels. It seems so strange they have that splash ride by that steel coaster. Seems like having all that water would cause issues with the coaster 🤷🏻♀️ Have a great 4th Jacob, I assume Jen will fly up to meet you at your mom’s. Hopefully she can be in a few videos. Safe travels to you all! Looking forward to your 3rd Amusement Park footage tomorrow. 😊

They did remove a lot of rides though.
Ik like they removed the river rapids it was one of my favorite rides
Last time I went was 7 years ago, wife and I are gonna head back again in 2 weeks.
"Come on over to Adventureland! You're gonna have a fun filled day!" - The jingle on the commercial years ago...
I was just sing that too😂
I have seen a couple commercials on TV still but they are not like what they used to be...
It still is the jingle? Unless I completely missed it and I’m having a Mandela effect moment
I always heard fun dam day 😂😂😂😂
😂 they still play it on the radio every once in awhile 😂

Loved the underground ride so great.!!! Love the old skool retro feel thumbs up !!!!! All the best my friend XXXX Marie
My fiance and I saw you while we were on the train! I wanted to actually meet you so bad, but we missed you. Big fan of your work!
Very nice park, liked your narration of the park-provided footage.
AWESOME AMUSEMENT PARK ! LOVE the UNDERGROUND ride, that was different and Cool ! I can see why KenneyWood bought it. KenneyWood is another Cool Old Park. Enjoyed this, Thank You, Carpetbagger ! 😊
This seems a lovely park! Clean, nicely designed, and that Underground ride is a real draw! Thanks for the video.
The underground is actually built over the pools where the dolphin shows used to be. After the dolphin shows left they had a high dive show for a few years.
Wait, when did they have a dolphin show? I was born in ‘00 and never remember hearing about them.
Yea that is true they use to be that’s what my dad oews told me
@TheRunningLeopard the dolphins were there in 1977-1979 and again from 1988 to 1989 according to the Des Moines Register.
My home amusement park! So many memories from the beginning! The Tornado roller coaster was the best in the 70's!
I’ve been at Adventureland from the time frame 2009-2018 and honestly it’s kind of sad to see all the rides I’ve been on as a kid end up being replaced or removed. I miss the Galleon, I only rode it a few times but it had such a cool presence.

Morning Jacob 🤓📸 dark rides are the best, I can hear you screaming lol through the whole thing. Thanks for sharing this. Stay safe and have fun.👍

That looks like a great themepark!
I am so amazed at how far you travel everyday!!
Bets on Carperbagger at Lost Island tomorrow. Much more thrill rides there. Palace Entertainment filled Adventureland with kiddie rides when they took over.
Great video. I love the pig. Take care, Jacob, and as always, safe travels, my friend .
So much has changed since I’ve last been to Adventureland. I definitely need to get back there soon.
i loved underground when i was a kid i rode it over and over
The underground description reminds me of the old Chaos at Opryland, but it was steel, but still a dark ride.
Haven’t been to Adventureland in years and was sad to hear the silly silo is gone.
As an iowan it's pretty cool to see the carpet bagger came to my state.
Have a great time at the park you're in today, Jacob.❤
Aww sucks that the sky bucket ride is gone. I remember going to Adventureland as a kid and thinking it was so cool and adorable. 😢
Happy 4th of July, Jacob and Jenn.
Fun fact about Adventureland. Former Disney Imagineers designed the park.
One of the few parks where you can find old-school Skee Ball.
For now...
And it’s great and completely janky 😂
That shakin bacon ride is so cute and funny ... very different too
Jen would love the Underground ride.

I worked there for 10 years in the rides department . Through high school, college, & afterwards. Lots of great memories.
I was just there last weekend. I have seen a great improvement over the last few years since the new owners took over.
This is my home park. No love for the Outlaw or Tornado? The Monster is fun, but it killed the sky way and the silly silo.
I continue to miss the silly solo to this day. 😢
I miss the Himalayan(think thats what it was called), the Outlaw is my jam!
