I like how the General slowly figures out who these guys are and has to hold himself from laughing.
He thanked the Colonel as he left too, he was like "This is done and dusted" knowing that the Colonel practically lost.
Very instructive.
He was thinking if I stay they will capture me to.
@@mrnegatively5125 I've always thought that.
He seemed to catch on pretty fast to me.
This was a very good scene in a very good movie. The general realizing that the colonel has been outwitted and wisely leaves as not to witness his embarrassment is classic.
When Ernest speaks, you better listen.
Lol That was HILARIOUS!!!!
He left so as to not be captured along with the colonel and his staff. It would be highly embarrassing for a general officer to be outwitted like that. The giveaway is when Charles Bronson looks over at the general's stars in the scene before this when Colonel Breed asks him for his orders and "What he was doing on that road." Bronson focuses on the stars, the camera zooms in and he has to gather himself to answer the colonels question after Breed repeats himself.
I've just noticed Frankos face and his laugh when Major Armbruster gets knocked off the ambulance its priceless x
Great cast of actors in this movie, Jim Brown still had the moves with his run.
Greatest cast ever assembled. sir.
It was around this time that he retired from pro football, so he was still in shape
Ernest Charles Jim George Robert telly and lee just to name a few actors in this classic movie.writing this in May 2022 stay safe people cause the covid is going back up again.
Jim Brown got stuck in England while filming, the idiot owner of the Browns (Art Modell) told the press that Jim would be fined like any other player. Jim Brown told the press that he would not be paying a fine, he would retire!
@@crhend512 Art Modell is on record as saying it was the biggest mistake he ever made.
Ernest Borgnine and Robert Ryan were in a COUPLE of the best movies ever made together.
The Dirty Dozen
Bad Day at Black Rock
The Wild Bunch
Lee Marvin was in "Black Rock" as well.
Greatest War Movie Ever!! I like the look of surprise and shock on Colonel Breed's (Robert Ryan) face, when the "Dirty Dozen" capture his headquarters!!
You know Robert Ryan was a Marine Corps Drill Instructor and also help fight Racial Discrimination.
Both him and Lee Marvin were in the Marine Corps during World War II.
Not only Ryan & Marvin, another US soldiers before start the career as actor like Charles Bronson, Ernest Borgnine & Audie Murphy
Kudos to him for the Marine Corp part.
@@azimisyauqieabdulwahab9401 I think Bronson was a tail gunner in the Army Air Corps.
@@azimisyauqieabdulwahab9401 That's MoH Audie Murphy.
One of the greatest movies in the history of cinema!
Long live the names Charles Bronson and George Kennedy and All the actors who are in this scene
I just realised someone says "hey wladislaw dry shave him " The reference to Breed telling his men to dry shave Franco 😁😝
Kennedy's grin as he salutes the general from the ambulance. 😄
Definitely ❤Kennedys character is a Mr Nice Guy all through the film He likes Reismann but has his orders❤
Such a great movie full of star actors. A Much watch; the book is a lot darker and the ending leaves a bit unanswered.
This was the best part of the entire film.
Surprisingly Maggot did pretty good.
Yes, he managed not to melt down, murder a woman or display religious hysteria.
@@stevekaczynski3793 boy he did later!!!!
Love how Gen. Worden notices but doesn't spill the beans as an observer should. 🤓😎✌🏻
There are certain older movies with an amazing ensemble of iconic actors... this in one of them... another is the Magnificent Seven ( the original that is!)
An old pal of mine, who has now passed, Tom Busby was one of the dozen. He gets shot in the middle of the forehead as they are leaving the Chateau. Gotta say, the scar healed up magnificently over the years!
Notice how maggot is nowhere even happy at the accomplished mission but is happy at any other inconvenience. This is how you create a antagonist subtly.
Great scene from a great movie!!!
The Dirty Dozen was a chance for Lee Marvin to have allot of his acting buddies to make a fun War movie. Allot of difference when they were acting in movies like “A Bad Day At Black Rock”.
Have a great day!
classic, love this movie
ALL TIME GREATEST

What I don't understand is George Kennedy laughing along with the Dozens after they pushed him out of the truck.
I don’t think he noticed, he was just slapped on the hand, then lost his grip and fell.
Because Reisman at the meeting with the generals said that the Dozen would capture Colonel Breeden and his entire staff at the games. When they did they laughed and Kennedy did too!
He is laughing because the Dirty Dozen tricked the hell out of those fools. LOL
It just goes to show how much everyone hated Colonel Breed!
He is Reismanns friend and probably doesn't like Breed ❤❤
I love the carry on type music when he falls off the ambulance 😂🤣😅😷🤪🇬🇧🏴 Apr twenty four
Just a fantastic film a total classic
Ein Film der Extraklasse. 👍👍👍👍🇩🇪
I still haven't figured out what those things were that Bronson gave to the others who put them in a bag.
Detonators. Basically they planted a charge do that even if they were "caught" the place would still be counted as taken out.
Me either. I have seen this movie a dozen times and I can't figure it out either
@@soondead007 OK, thanks for the update, I'll watch it again to see 👍👍
@@55Quirll AHH ok Thanks i get it now
More accurately "British time pencils."
They use an acid solution as a timing mechanism.
I guess the idea was that they would leave a sachel charge in Breed's headquarters if the ambulance didn't show up in time.
My favorite part of the movie
Mine too !
And mine too
I have got two movie DVDS of

I am dedicating these movie DVDS

Always great how George Kennedy limps as fast as he can so as not to miss the surprise HAHAHAHAHA
Saw this in the late 60s. All star cast! Good movie.
MAD Magazine; Dirtier By The Dozen. Lol.
General so so surprised. Like : what's this??
He all most gave it away
How could he not recognize them. He was literally staring at the lineup of the dozen when he broke into the camp, just days prior. Anyway, great movie though.
The only 2 he got a good look at were Pinkley and Franco.
General’s review hundreds of men if not thousands. Doubt he’d remember.
Damn good movie with Hollywood's best
That wasn't a war movie. That was a fun movie.
Excellent. ♡ T.E.N.
Ryan’s character would have been busted after he raided their camp. That aside still a great movie and what a cast!
The unofficial name was "The Filthy 13", even when there was up to 18 men on a mission. Led by Private First Class(E-2 then)Jake "McNasty" McNiece.
That's how Reisman dealt with West Point BUMS lol
Love this movie
Cleanest vehicles I've ever seen. Better than the battalion and brigade commanders' humvees.
Robert Ryan and Ernest Borgnine were in Bad Day at Black Rock
I know that this film was somewhat "anti-establishment" when it came out, but I seriously don't get why they ditched George Kennedy. He was the observer/judge/umpire, who could legitimately call their move as fair. Should the US Army really be sending convicted felons, some of whom who have been diagnosed with psychological problems, on such a mission when they can't even tell who is on their side?
I imagine it would be because it would have given the game away as it would have made it obvious they were active participants rather than an actual ambulance.
One simple reason....
Col. Breed was familiar with the Major (George Kennedy). They couldn't risk anyone ruining the plan.
But the odds were unlikely due to the fact Col. Breed didn't really recognize ANY of the Dirty Dozen at all.
The germans did in 500 ss parachute battalion to attack

Good Movie❤
And then we invented paintball warfare.
Posey pretending to be hurt 😂 I can't believe they fell for it, the colonel deserved the embarrasment
Ernie probably had fun ! Not much as doing mc hales navy lol
It's perhaps interesting to know that EB won an Academy Award for Best Actor in 1955 for the movie 'MARTY'; he's had film work since then, notably in 'ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK' & 'RED', among others... I suspect 'McHales's Navy' was just to pay the mortgage...
@@redcaddiedaddie so true my friend he was a great guy ! I saw a clip with him stopping his camper @ a truck stop! He spoke with everyone and signed autographs!!! He was old school along with tim conway both will be sadly missed!!!!!

Does anyone know what was the stuff they stashed in the bag at the beginning?
Can anyone tell me what Bronson says to Breed after the capture of hq?
I believe he said "Major Reissman's compliments, Sir".
@@nicolasdefranco7179 Indeed he does! Thank you!
@@moboutmen My pleasure.

As funny and effective as that was... it does count as a war crime if I’m not mistaken.
it was a war game in a movie so its ok. however of all the horrible things that are war crimes this does not really rank very high.
No, Capturing an enemy headquarters through an act of subterfuge is not a war crime.

@@adamsmyth1156 Definitely not a war crime indeed It is wargames 😊😊😊

the major
and the whole operation was kept on the downlow, and the colonel was close to having it shut down completely!
they've might have gone overboard with things, but EVERYTHING had to be real - or the whole plan would've failed!

Gee wiz what a neato war crime movie.

What were those silver looking things? I have seen this movie a dozen times, but never knew what those damn hypo-looking things were. SOMEBODY HELP ME UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY WERE>>>>PLEASE !!!!
Detentioners for a bag of explosives
Firing pins
Explosives detonators.
One of the movie greats of all time but technically the use of soldiers who has been convicted of felony crimes by the military for a military operation I don`t think has ever been done or will be. I call it "Hollywood`s addition to the truth"!
South Korea attempted it in 1968 for a mission to assassinate Kim Il Sung. The men chosen ended up on standby for 3 years due to relatively improved relations between North and South Korea. In 1971, they mutinied over the extreme nature of their training and massacred 17 guards on their island base. Rather than attempt escape, they sought vengeance for the torturous training regimen they endured and hijacked a bus on the mainland in an attempt to reach and kill South Korean president Park. When cornered by police, several committed suicide with grenades.
Germany used criminals in 500 ss parachute battalion to attack tito
In Yugoslavia!
Germany WW2 Doppleganger (maybe misspelled) battalion
Both the German's and Soviet's had Penal Battalions where soldier's could redeem themselves with blood. They included not just criminals. But soldier's who went AWOL or ran away in battle. Even Officer's who failed could end up there.
Wagner group
Isn't This Winters Unit ?
no 😂 they are just one of the many airborne units of ww2.
0:36 what are those?
Detonators
Officially, time pencils. They contained a blasting cap, and a spring plunger restrained by a bit of copper wire. When activated, acid would burn though the copper wire, and set off a booster charge.
A British invention. The bomb used by von Stauffenberg to try and kill Hitler used one. I suppose they wanted to blame the Brits for killing Hitler.
@@Jonascord thank you so much! I've been wondering about that for years.
