Who's here for Donald Sutherlands passing? Thank you legend 🙏
Me, He was an amazing actor
I’m here
My first thoughts.
Best line in the film.
Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves 😉 Time to watch Kelly's heroes again!
Me... Woof woof
*Plough* 🎉
I just read Donald Sutherland died; this scene was the first thing that came to mind. An unforgettable and hilarious scene. RIP, Pinkley!
Same here
The original snow
I know right?! 😂
Same, I'm so glad people remember this classic. Incredible actor.
🇨🇦🇨🇦
Same same, must watch again asap. RIP Donald, great actor.
"never heard of it"...I'm 62...I use that line often. rest in peace Don!
"I'd rather be a civilian, sir" - Colossal actor and cinema masterpiece.
When I heard he passed I immediately wanted to find a clip from this movie. It was one of my all-time favorites. Lee Marvin was a great actor too.
Same
Same!
Me too! One of my favorite movies. This classic film is filled with outstanding actors. RIP
"Just walk slow, look dumb and act stupid" LOL!! My life's motto. Words to live by.
Me at work It's stops people asking questions
One of my favourite films
"Where ya from son?"
"Madison City Missouri Sir!"
"Never heard of it."
As of today, June 20, 2024, only two of the Dirty Dozen are left: Lever (#5) and Sawyer (#7).
RIP Donald Sutherland.
I could watch this clip a thousand times and still laugh at Donald Sutherland. Brilliant acting - one of the funniest movie scenes I have ever seen.
John Cassavettis as “11” was gut splitting
It's a pity most of them did not get out alive; that would be one hell of a story to tell the grandkids. Ok, it is a movie.
One of the best movies ever made 😅😅
Same, same.
RIP. Thanks for the laughs
He was brilliant here, glad people remember this movie. RIP to the king!
"Very pretty, very pretty Col, but can they fight?"
I laughed when I heard that line as a civilian, I cried with laughter once I had joined the military and rewatched it
It's the sort of question a general would ask a platoons commander.
I can imagine President Snow saying that to the Tributes in HUNGER GAMES😂😂
“I hope so…”
Sutherland can do so many different roles, from evil sociopath to bodyguard to total goofball. Unique actor.
You forgot "college professor" ("Animal House").
Yes he pleasured Karen Allen too.
And commercial schill.
More like total "Oddball"
Not to mention a character in the film of a Jane Austen novel ('Pride and Prejudice').
In less than 2 minutes a star is born. And oh the places he took us.
For a dramatic actor, Donald Sutherland had great comic timing, as evidenced by this classic scene. RIP Mr. Sutherland. You were a true artist.
...2:07 - ..."never heard of it";
classic line!!
R.I.P. "General"...
This whole scene tore me apart, that delivery and acting was perfect.
@@thepoleontheroad total class acting!
"Where you from, son?"
"Madison City, Missouri, sir!"
"Never heard of it."
My favorite Donald Sutherland clip.
Rest in peace . donald Sutherland .one of the best of his generation.
Unforgetable scene for a clasic movie. We never forget you Donald.
My grandfather was the guy that played the guard at the gate in an earlier scene to this
When I was in the military I was AMAZED at how, the higher in rank someone goes, the dumber they get.
Me too! They always seem to forget where they came from UNLESS they were ROTC or OCS because those Officers never knew what it was like to be a real Soldier!!
I often wonder
The same goes in industry. Over the years I've concluded that the higher the pay, the less work is done.
@@thewolfdoctor761music and architecture too
its also because there is an information bubble at a higher level. The higher you are the more expansive your responsibilities and the more reliant you are on others for information to be directed to you and the more you also need to delegate responsibilities in obtaining said information.
take someone who is in the middle of the chain of command a major or LTC may block access to certain information because they are afraid if the higher up hears it things could be bad for them while others are playing their own political games to sabotage the advancement of another officer or aid in the furtherance of theirs . while sometimes other matters take priority as they pop up they go unresolved and communication break down and the flow of information weakens or becomes outdated.
That is why in some instances a general or an admiral even a corporate CEO may look stupid.
not defending or generalizing but highlighting why senior ranking intelligent educated people can appear dumb. But then again people sometimes are just dumb and lucky.
Sutherland is the last surviving cast member .... a posthumous medal for the entire Dirty Dozen!
RIP Donald Sutherland. A true legend. 😢
Most of the dirty dozen have passed away. Recently, Donald Sutherland has passed away and this movie stuck in my mind. RIP. What a Great War movie.
"Never heard of it" - four perfectly delivered words that launched an amazing movie career. RIP, Donald, from a Canadian film fan.
RIP.... I use that line almost everyday... still gets laughs... RIP Pinkley!
Donald Sutherland is one of my favourite actors in the 60s/70s. Loved these old ww2 films cheesy deaths but still more enjoyable. His son is also an amazing actor
Great actor in the Eagle has Landed as well. Cool as a cucumber.
His son was the lead on 24
Keifer's mother, Shirley Douglas, was the daughter of the father of Canada's National Medical.
1960's/1970's
Rest in peace,Donald Sutherland...❤
Donald Sutherland said this is the scene that got him the part in MASH.
Don Sutherland is one of the under-rated actors of the 20th Century. He is amazing with his wide acting skills, in all films. Kelly's Heroe's anyone? Some wine, a little cheese?
Oddball ! He's a freak !
@@alexman8800 Why don't you knock it off with them negative waves!?
What about the movie "Eye of the Needle ".
Kelly's Heros, one of the Best!....
The best beginning of any film ever including 007movies!
Never heard of it. Absolute gold😂
When John Cassavetes started cracking up when Lee Marvin picked Pinkley for the general…. I busted out laughing 🤣 😂
R.I.P Donald
Thank you for the memories
Sutherland looked so young and meek in here.
Yeah you can definitely see Keifer’s resemblance
@@nickirmen6671 either his son Kiefer wasn't born, or just born when Donald filmed this.
@@BrotherDerrick3X Yeah this was filmed during the summer of 1966, while Kiefer wasn't born until December that year.
@@BrotherDerrick3X Keifer had to b round 1 or 2 years of age when the DIRTY DOZEN was shown. I saw this flick in '68 when I was 5 at the REGAL THEATER. Chicago, with VALLEY OF THE DOLLS.
@@RICHBLACKCOCK it was released in 1967
Sutherland was brilliant in this film, and even better in Kellys Heroes.
I though that was Oddball
@@bustedcogitator8954 He is Pinkley in Dirty Dozen and Oddball in Kelley's Heroes.
And he got even better in 'Start The Revolution Without Me'.
Oddball is a true American hero
"Nobody said nothin' about no Tigers!"
Iconic scene! RIP General
RIP Donald Sutherland.
An iconic oddball never to be repeated. That talent doesn't and never will exist again. The world just got poorer. ❤
amazing scene in film history, made him a star
Even my mother loved this movie when we saw it in the theatre. Still one of my favourites- rest easy, Donald!
This was one of my fathers favorite movies, rip 🙏 daddyo
RIP legend
"I'd rather be a civilian, sir."
Now he's one...in Heaven. God Speed, Donald Sutherland. 😇
The bandleader with the toothy smile...priceless...
He is a brilliant actor. He was so young here. Handsome too.
Had to come after hearing about Donald Sutherland’s passing. Great sense of humor. RIP
Epic movie classic, on the viewing schedule tonight. Donald, This one's for You! RIP, man... Keifer, I am so sorry for your family's loss. My husband and I, along with countless others, have enjoyed your father's talents on screen for decades. He will be
missed by millions
Worldwide. God Bless you, and your family.
Peace ✌️ always...
Donald Sutherland made us vets laugh hard with this one. God Bless him. At the ending scene Charles Bronson says "killing Generals could get to be a habit with me". This entire movie never gets old.
RIP Donald Sutherland (1935-2024)
Descansa en Paz gran Donald Sutherland y siempre sera mejor ser UN CIVIL y no un milico.
Loved this movie as a kid, never noticed donald sutherland till now lmao amazing
"Walk slow, look dumb, and act stupid."
Now I know what I'm watching tonight.
RIP GENERAL PINKLEY ❤❤
Rest In Peace Mr Donald Sutherland 🕊️
This scene alone should've gotten Sutherland an Oscar. Brilliant.
Edit: Goodbye, you amazing actor. Your legacy is an exceptional one that will probably never be topped.
Perfect scene. RIP, Sir, I salute you! 🥀
He really gets into being a general by the end. Love how he dismisses the brass over his shoulder without breaking stride. “All right, Major, let’s go, we’ve got work to do. Thank you, Colonel.”
My sincere condolences to your family and friends 😢. Rest in peace Donald Sutherland 🙏 💔.
R.I.P. Donald Sutherland (1935 - 2024)
Kiefer Sutherland is a damn good actor.. but his father.. That man is a god!
RIP . The facial expression at 1:08 is freaking hillarious!
✌️Donald Sutherland. Brilliance personified. Legend. 🔥🔥🔥
“I bet you are a big Lee Marvin fan.”
Reservoir dogs?
RIP brother rip pinkley!! I salute you 💯💯💯💯
Once the Band Master was unleashed, nothing could rein him in no more. The man was on a roll !! 😂😂
Absolute Classic
I've never heard of Madison City Missouri either....and I'm from Missouri
Maybe it's made up for the film 🤔😛
@@mikeowen7526 Madison in Missouri really exist but its rather small village than city.
Madison MO is on hwy 24 in between Moberly & Monroe City Mo. Kinda NE of Columbia Mo
There's a "Madison" over by Moberly but no Madison City.
Rest in peace Sutherland
DS owned this role! He was seriously funny.😍🤣
Amazing that in 1967 i saw the set while they were filming at MGM Elstree studios. The farmers in the local pub were very annoyed as the castle set was blown up by mistake plus all the gun fire thru the nights stopped the cows giving milk & the hens laying. Still have some 8mm film of the sets then . A young 19 year old Aussie in Britain for 2 years in a working holiday. Great memories🇦🇺🪃🦘
I remember watching this movie as a kid in Nigeria in 2001. We had TCM for free on cable and i just randomly stumbked on it. I don't know why but i was hooked! Maybe cause my parents and I woukd watch WW2 documentaries and i also liked Sound of Music. So the film actually appealed to me. I enjoyed it so much
Descanse En Paz Gran Actor Donald Sutherland. Vivirá Inmortal en sus Películas. Entrevistas. Extraordinario Actor.
you know, im not from this era, this was way before my time, but why are movies so much better back then? this one scene is so much better than anything out now
Oh there’s plenty of movies from that era worse than anything we make now. They’re just all forgotten to history or released as cheap B-movies for MST3K value.
R.I.P. Pinkley,
RIP Donald Sutherland. No negative waves in heaven.
I just found out actor Donald Sutherland has died at age 88. Rest In Peace to Donald Sutherland, 1935-2024.
una pieza maestra ... del 100 % de los actores de esta escena. DEP , Don , por los magníficos ratos que nos hiciste pasar.
you've seen a general, just walk slow, look dumb and act stupid.
Never heard of it.
😔
Rest in Peace, General Pinkley, a.k.a, Gen. #2!
When movies ruled 💯💯💯💯
Franko’s reaction 0:07 always cracks me up. 😄
According to the man himself, the character of Pinkley was supposed to be just one of the background troops (Or as he puts it, one of the six), but the actor chosen to do it was against the idea due to his native American descent (Something like that). So the director just pointed at Donald Sutherland and said "He'll do it", and that's how he got his start. It had something to do with his eyes, which is why he was picked :)
Rest in peace last of the dirty dozen 😢
Typed in Madison City, Missouri in Google Maps.
Google Maps: Never heard of it!
This is brilliant
We’ll miss you, Mr. Sutherland. Thanks for the legacy.
One of the best scenes in the movie. My First Donald Sutherland movie as a kid age 8. The best. RIP. I really liked him in this because you felt a little empathy for him. They were being abused as prisoners, and so you could connect with the fact that they were going to die even if accused of being criminals, you could see the good in some of them.
>walk slow act dumb and look stupid
Captures it perfectly
Peliculón!! Me encantaba verlo de chico cuando la pasaban por la tele, sin duda el cine de los 60s no tiene nada que envidiarle al de hoy en día.
This scene in particular from "The Dirty Dozen" and Oddball from "Kelly's Heroes" are my 2 favorite Donald Sutherland bits.
Donald sutherland rip 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
The last one ! Rest in peace
Before the dirty dozen, the was another war film with the same idea of prisoners on a suicide mission, 1964s the Secret Invasion with an all star cast of character actors. Very well done war film needs to be rediscovered.
I was thinking of The Devil's Brigade starring William Holden. Great war flick with an all-star cast and based on a true story.
The Secret Invasion was the movie. It had an international yet odd cast of Stewart Granger Mickey Rooney Edd Byrnes Henry Silva Raf Vallone. Actually was way more violently bloody and graphic than the Dirty Dozen. I found it on premium movie channels
@@jmysterio100 I was lucky enough to see this overlooked film in 1964 . Trying to find it on DVD to add it to my collection .
Yes, it had Jim Brown too, commandos into Yugoslavia
Apparently Sutherland was hired as a walk-on, a non-speaking role, for this movie. But the actor who was suppose to play the fake general didn't feel he was right for it. So the director looked around and said "You with the ears! You're playing a general". And thus we were gifted one of the finest actors of all time.
He got few more lines in other scenes as well, so this might have been filmed earlier.
Gen. Pinkley. One of Donald Sutherland's most memorable roles.
Sargeant Oddball was definitely the most memorable out of the bunch xD
Donald Sutherland was a brilliant actor❤
Still is at the time of this reply.
