@@VicCamach0 You either misunderstood me or know nothing about sound engineering/live performances... The sound engineer clearly made Bea too quiet in the mix compared to the instruments

With its lack of better lyrics. I wasn’t praising him professionals yet appreciating him as someone is disliked the song.
Zippy Lucke you don’t have to be extremely skilled at guitar to make good music that people will listen to. you could be a professional at guitar and barely know how to write your own music. or even make music that a wide audience will like. in all honestly it takes a lot of talent to have millions of listeners with doing the minimum in the eyes of professionals.
Eskimokiss damn you know what? I just realized that’s true. I first noticed it with the apple cider solo. But not with the other ones. I believe that she does write her own songs and comes up with most of it, but that her producer vamps everything up and adds a lot to it.
@Eskimokiss kinda late but i believe she didnt start playing guitar until she was 17; plus in her bedroom session videos you can very clearly see her playing guitar pretty well imo
Difference between tiny desk/audio tree and this performance is there is a audio system hanging above their heads. Sounds like the FOH engineer was fighting feedback the whole show through the system. Unfortunate, but normal for quiet female singers.

Could be a matter of the mixing not doing well with your output. I was seeing a couple of coms complaining about sound quality, but it seems I hear them all nicely. Maybe a bit more grain on the bass would have been nice, because this bassist indeed does play bass, but other than that, vocals are nice and soft, sometimes emerging as punchier, playful. Guitars have their presence, synthetizers there too. Drums banging it out, maybe a little on the gentle side for some reason, I mean the drummer does seem to be banging them hard enough... My own experience here is that this is okay. Enjoyable. Not ultra defined, crystal-clear-cut-perfect, but accessible, audible, and ok.
I don't think it's the mix, it's just that bea is used to slightly different mic settings and so isn't always as close to the mic as she needs to be - notice how towards the end of the song it sounds a lot better cos she realises that the mic isn't picking her voice up
Matty Woodhouse the vocal is pretty quiet on the actual track too. Its probably stylistic, like a lot of shoe-gaze used to do. Matty, that presented the award, often talks about ‘pop songs that sound like their drowning’ as a stylistic decision that he finds interesting. Just a thought.
@@matt23012301 I would imagine it sounds better in person, bear in mind what were hearing is the recording of what's been mixed to sound good in the venue, blasted through an expensive PA system. the sound engineer probably won't care too much how it sounds on UA-cam

They probably recorded straight out of front of house so it's mixed for power amp levels for the crowd and monitors not ideal for a good recording mix they should have ran a separate patch entirely
It's literally just a fender strat with a funky pickguard. Fender sent it to her. Saw it on her insta. Also, only a bridge and neck pickup as well. Other than that, just a funky subgenre of a stratocaster.
notbenny beat me to it haha, it’s actually pretty eye catching but the 2 single coils turn me off, maybe I’ll spring for the lead III because I need something with a humbucker
Ok this performance does NOT do her justice. I’ve seen her live and she’s amazing. Seeing her again next Wednesday.
