Update! Hi guys and gals. Bit of an update with this one. I was still not happy with how it was running. Tonight, I discovered the motor brush spring was too hard, simply squeezing it together reduced the current drawn from 400mA to 170mA off load, the loco now runs ever better ready for her starring role soon :)
Great service/repair video. It's always good to see these given a new lease of life. I find this is one of the really satisfying aspects of this hobby. Cheers Paul.
Thanks for sharing this repair & maintenance video Mike. Most interesting and enjoyable. As your father was a fine craftsman making that beautiful locomotive it's clear the apple didn't fall far from the tree ! Success and greetings, Filip
Hi Mike I love your maintenance videos and i think the one you posted some time ago on the old lima motors is one of the most useful videos that i have ever found on youtube keep up the great work old boy all the best tony
Lovely restoration work. I think it's worth asking... With the price of these motors being driven up to about the £30 mark, largely because of videos like this. Would you use these in a build today or use a more modern motor?
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited Oh I absolutely agree! These motors, the X04 and the hybrid combinations are fantastic. I was just curious how you would go about it yourself nowadays with more modern options on the market. I changed my user name BTW, formally Fnp90rd. The L1 is at the painting stage now :)
At least your dad's model of the O2 tank engine is way better than the EFE Rails model Mike. The EFE Rails model of the O2 tank engine is just awful because of how light and it is difficult to dismantle it if you want to service it.

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited - A year already? It seems like last month!
Nice little service video Mike. Those are 5 pole motors aren’t they and can be a drop in replacement to the X03/4 but are hard to come by nowadays.
Hi, yes 5 pole. Great motors

Many thanks. We'll I'd probably use a big beefy coreless motor and fly wheel. But these old motors are great if looked after

Thanks Bryan, so I understand glad I never bothered with one lol
@@ModelRailwaysUnlimitedyeah. If I ever have that model, I would smashed it into pieces and throw it away.
Frustrating indeed, I have one of their 1361 tanks and have it running 90% ok now, took some effort however
