Midori Ito-Triple Axel!

- Midori Ito became the first female figure skater to land the triple axel at the NHK Trophy 1988. The following year, she became the first female skater to land it at the World Championships. Over the course of her career, the triple axel became her signature move. The height and the distance she carries is yet to be matched.
This slow-mo footage is from her comeback performance at the Japanese Nationals in 1996. It is amazing how she was still able to land it perfectly after a 4-year break.
She is one of the worlds most highest jumpers of all time! i always wanted to see her do the triple axel in slow motion! Thanks for uploading this video!
Still the best ladies jumper of all time!
Not today)) But she always be will in our hearts))
@AndewithanE
funny, I had the same thought lol... if she squeezed her legs together she could def do a quad!!! She def has plenty of height for a quad axel!!!!
She has always been one of my favorite skaters. She was athletic when everyone else was going artsy. And her jumps....WOW...I've never seen a woman get as much height as she does.
When she was performing the triple axel very consistently back in 90s, I did not actually get impressed much because her jump was just my standard. Later on when I see some skaters attempt the same (but not really the same) movement, I just feel I totally missed something very valuable.
her 3A is just simply amazing!!!! luv her
Yukari and Mao, and a lot of men could only DREAM to be able to do a triple axel like that.
Midori was 26 yrs old when this triple axel was filmed. Very recently she announced to return to the ice show and throw the triple axel if her condition permits........
i dont think ive ever seen anyone match the height of her jumps its simply amazing
Tonya's jumps were pretty high as well
She jumped so high! 0_0
amazing.
ohmygod, she gets great height. a friend of mine told me about her triple axels and boy am i impressed.
the height!!!!
thats crazy height! so amazing! the best triple axel done by anyone ever! ( including mens )
The height is just utterly amazing and blows away Yukari Nakano and Mao Asada's 3-Axels.
Tonya Harding attemped a quad loop. There's the Texaco commercial where she presumbly showed it, but coming from Tonya I wouldn't be surprised if she talked big about that as well.
Oh. My. God. Amazing!
WOW! That height!
that was good
im not surprised she can do a triple axel
have u seen her doubles?
i wonder if she could do a quad.........
how does she jump like that??? she could probably land a quad if she clicked those boots together!
absolotly amazing!
みどりちゃんは凄いぞ❕
I think this girl has a really good chance to win the Olympic Gold in High Jump. Amazing height for a tiny lady.
how high do you think that is? it almost looks like 3 feet off the ground
Wow
*the height wow👑*
みどりちゃんは凄い
It's not a quad, remember, it's three and A HALF, not just three, and it enters from the front, to land backward, you have to complete another half rotation. =]
Wow!
it will sound weird but...
this girl has balls.
OMG how does she manage it wiv that position!!!
parece cuadruple!

Amazing height tho
u think midori could've touched rim?
I don't like her left leg position in the air. Otherwise: She has incredible hight!
I thought a quad axel hadn't ever been landed, well in competition anyway?
@EdwardCullenFreak999
LOL! i think roller-skating and figure skating are a bit different. seems to me that roller-skating is much harder.
such a nice H position!
@AndewithanE She's fall because she'd be off-axis. :P
Tonya Harding was.
that looked like a quad. go back and count the rotations. i think that there are 4 and a half, not 3 and a half.
INCREDIBLE height but she popped it
ES un cuádruple...
hahaha :)
It's impressive that a woman has space between her legs? Really???
;)
Tonya landed hers better but Midori may get better height.
hilljayne seriously??? Lol
Tonya lands her more clean.
Tonya is not even in the same league as Midori when it comes to the 3A. Tonya only landed a few 3A in competition in 1991, never after in competition. Midori successfully landed the 3A from 1988 to 1996 in competition. In any ratings of ladies triple axels on the internet, Midori is always rated #1.
