- This week I'm looking at some of the things we learned and the questions raised from the Dutch GP. Have we seen the last of Logan Sargeant in F1? Can McLaren AND Lando Norris take both titles away from Red Bull and Max Verstappen?

To be fair to Piastri, the poor start wasn’t his fault, he got stuck behind Norris and had no space to move.
Still think he should have passed Leclerc and Russel though.
Honestly I love that the teams are struggling to understand why their cars performance is varying track to track. When was the last time F1 had 7 winners in a season? The lack of predictably has been fantastic.
Yeah agree its actually been, dare I say it, interesting at times for a change.
The last time was 2012, where there were 7 unique winners in the first 7 races. In total though, there were 8 winners, with Kimi Raikkonen taking a win in Abu Dhabi.

Mick replace Logan? Do we not remember how Mick broke a car in half? He crashed at least if not more than Logan. Liam Lawson is the correct choice as is seed stream!! Great App!!

Mick wasnt exactly crash free during his time at Haas. More sensible thing would be to bring in Antonelli from Monza and let him get dialled in for the rest of the season before moving him to Mercedes for 2025.
Mick Schumacher was running up quite a hefty repair bill at Haas though as I recall?
Replacing a driver(Sargent) who wrecks car for another driver(Schumacher) who wrecks car would be a dumb idea.

Something not to ignore either is the fact norris has still to get his last engine alocation this season and max has already had his full alocation.
Max already took that penalty and now has one more engine int he pool, theoretically that's now a disadvantage for Norris

Do you really think Max can go 11 full races on his current 5th engine when he was averaging around 3 races per engine the 1st half of the season?
I think Max is worried dehind closed doors.
@@Craft-oh7uvYeah for sure. I suspect he eased off in the Dutch GP to nurse that engine as much as anything. Let Norris make an unforced error and don’t risk a DNF or penalty from taking another engine.
If that’s not the case then he’s lost pace as Checo was only 0.25 sec per lap behind him over race distance.
He won't do 11 races on one engine, he has 5 to spread across that period. Lando only has 4.

Maybe Adrian Newy's departure mid season has had a greater effect on RB performance than anticipated. The other machinations within the team are likely part of the problem too.

As a Max fan, I still kind of want to see McLaren take both championships. That would be one hell of a comeback story
You have a very short memory, as mick suchmacer was responsible for very many expensive crashes which saw him out.Stoffel Van dorne is the obvious choice as he is able to put in development experience into the car immediately. Micks days of F1 are over and Williams does not need more crashes.... Experience is the game here.
The only notable story of the whole Dutch weekend was broken by Kym llman who reported on the change of direction by the FIA of Getting all companies within F1 agreeing to a 5% quota for employing severely disabled people in the organization following a crack-down by the EU. This manifested itself by allowing severely disabled and dying patients to visit the paddock on Thursday, to enormous support from the fans.
I think his Uncle Ralph is getting into a lot of rear end shunts these days.....😳

Because of Perez's form I am quite certain that McLaren will win the constructor. As for driver champsionship, it is quite close but I still think Max will win that. It is not impossible for Lando to win it but it is a bit unlikely.
Got a feeling that 7 points dropped for giving place back to team mate might come back to be the difference. They always say nice guys don’t win prizes

Still think the title is a step too far for Norris. Far too much needs to go his way for him to win or even take it to the very end. Having said that if Mclaren bring another upgrade that works & Redbull continue the current state of upgrade uncertainty..who knows? Especially if Ferrari/Merc/Piastri start taking points off Max.
mick will smash that Williams up just the same as Logan.. it has to be Lawson.

McLaren taking the trophy seems the likely outcome as they're only 30 points behind Red Bull currently. But Norris is 70 points behind Verstappen with only 9 races to go, which means that - on average - he would have to score at least 8 points more than Verstappen each race. That's a lot of things that has to flip his way. One bad race and the opportunity is likely lost.
Sprint races can help too + Red Bull’s engines have been a bit iffy this year?
@@JMO77UK I had happily forgotten about those. There are three left, but with the limited points at play there I doubt it'll make much of a difference.
One DNF from Max and Norris might have him.
Completely different set of circumstaces, but the DC situation reminds me of Braun's championship.
Easily the fastest car at start of the year but others caught up and passed them. It was just damage limitation and nailbiting for them for the second half of the season.

This is anotheexcellent video. McClaren is doing an excellent job. With all the work they do on simulators you wou ld think Oscar and Landon would practicing their starts very much like drag racers do. With the recent addition to the rules about brakes and the falling behind of Red Bull, it makes me wonder if they were the ones using the illegal braking system.
Zach might have cardiac arrest if they get either title this year.

Antonelli would be a waaay better substitute for Williams than Mick.

McLaren should act as if Lando does have a shot at the WDC, even if by a long-shot.
No ill-will meant towards Oscar at-all, but I do think the team does need the practice in making the correct decisions and the winning moves.

I don't understand the struggle with tire temperatures and degradation. Does this years C3 tire, fore example, have the same characteristics as a C3 in years past? Haven't they been using the same tires and running on the same tracks for years? What am I missing?

What makes a race exciting for you?
I think it was pretty good, there were several overtakes on a track where "it is impossible to overtake", even one for the lead.
What more do you like to see? Crashes? Mechanical failure? Safety cars?
I wasn't terrible, but certainly not a classic...IMO

It is possible for Lando to win a championship. But Lando is dealing with a very consistent Max Verstappen. Can you imagine Lando coming 5 or less points short at the end of the season.
Pretty sure Oscar was quicker than Max too, he just got stuck behind other cars so couldn't take points off him this week.

@@F1Elvis It doesn't matter if Oscar was faster than Max if he couldn't finish ahead of him, Max got the maximum points and thats why we are saying Lando stands no chance unless Max misses a race or two.
@@F1Elvis yes, both McLaren could have beaten max. But McLaren still tends to make strategy mistakes. 1 thing is for sure max is not giving any presents to Lando. McLaren and Lando needs to get their heads together cause 1 win in the last 5 races is not good enough. It’s 70 points in 9 races and 3 sprints.
I think the Red Bull drop off in pace is for a much simpler reason. Adrian Newey has stopped using ‘the force’ to make the car faster. 😎

Lando has a chance, albeit a small one of catching Max. Oscar, for all intents and purposes, has no chance. McLaren and Oscar should now get behind him and maximise that chance. Oscar’s chances will come, right now he needs to support his team mate.
Putting Kimi in Sargeant's car might be less of a financial risk than letting him finish this year in the Williams.
Putting Kimi in an F1 seat ahead of drivers who are outperforming him, or who have won F2 titles in recent years, will shine a poor light on the sport. Even within Mercedes there is Vesti who deserves a shot before Kimi.
@@LittleBigMediaCo I agree with you. I think Mercedes are taking a risk putting Kimi in the works car. Kimi should go to Williams and Carlos should drive the Merc.
@@AndyFromBeaverton I think Mercedes days of dictating to Williams are over, but Sainz has definitely earned a place in a top 4 team .. Kimi hasn't even earned a place in F1. It's the same with Bearman though ... he's got an F1 contract on the basis of 1 drive in favourable conditions for him ... whereas past F2 champions have put in consistent season long results but are outside looking in. Just look at Pouchaire & Drugovich.
These manufacturer academies are making a mockery of the natural talent progression that F2 is meant to provide.
Can't see Perez getting replaced until after the Mexico City GP if at all, especially if his relative improvement this weekend is sustained. The prospect of taking Toto's teaboy on must already be sending shivers through that side of the garage and the Williams finance department. Sargeant is an amateur when it comes to destroying F1 cars compared to Mick. I'd go with Lawson, more recent F1 experience and already has a good relationship with Albon from when they were teammates in DTM.
I'm sure they'd prefer Lawson, just not sure Red Bull are ready to give him up until the end of the season.
I no its a big what if , but , two DNF's for Max with Nozza winning them , it would look very interesting.

Meh, I don't think Oscar had the pace to keep up with, much less challenge, Max. Lando, in the same car, had an almost identical start, and yet, he didn't get stuck behind Max and passed for the lead no problem.
Keep in mind this is Landos 6th year, it's only Oscars 2nd. 2025 will be very interesting

Beating the other driver in the same car is task #1 for everyone in Formula 1.

Who will take Sargeant's place? Being from the USA, I wish he could have done better - you can be slowish but you can't be slow and crash - do those two things and you will be understandably fired.

In the last race, you knew that Max was given an upgraded floor to qualify & race with.
At the start of the race, Max was clearly faster than Lando, then they discovered that the car's setup was effecting tire degradation.
During the race, the Red Bull team decided to let Max manage the race to extend engine life, after Lando passed him, while Lando & Piastri pushed their car to the limits during the race.
This week end:
1) The McLaren team will be fighting the mid field pack as they are much faster than them!!!
2) While the Red Bull team will cruise to an easy P1 & P2 race day finish. 😊😊
Despite the weather seriously interfering with F1 race results, over the last 6 races, the Red Bull team still have the best car 'on track'.

Yes, everyone does that to a very prescribed procedure ahead of the race start.
Spinning tires for a very short time/ distance yes, otherwise spinning tires means lack of grip and slowing forward motion.
The Red Bull rot starts at the top (CH).
Norris may be a champion but he needs to toughen up. It has been said Albon is to nice and happy go lucky. Lando is the same you have to be a tiger of a person to be champion. You need to demand the best from team and car. As they say "Nice Guys finish last" The best athletes in the world have a ignorance and stubbornness about them. It helps them deal with team and the Press. You worked for Ron Dennis and he was tough (Not mean or cruel) and that is how you get things done.
I agree, but I definitely think Lando has that in him.
American here, as much as I wanted Logan to succeed, he's just not at the level he needs to be. He's done 36 races, Jim Clark only did 72 races, sadly Logan is never going to find more speed. I'd love to see Mick come back and have 9 races in a car capable of scoring points as his Haas was absolutely awful both seasons.

Lando must be hoping Oscar pulls his finger out and starts beating max too. The pit wall made him give a win to Oscar because they messed up then used emotional blackmail, think of the rest of the season etc etc yet Oscar doesn't seem to have lands pace. Lando stuck with mclaren through the really bad days but they don't seem to be rewarding him for it at all. I can't wrap my head around this woke attitude at Mclaren one bit!!

Ive heard over the years complaints regarding pirelli tyres. Are they incompetent or is it really that hard to make tyres for F1? Maybe they should have given another manufacturer a chance to try, but my guess is “someone” is profiting some big money from this and thats why that hasnt happened.
Mick (crash most races) Schumacher would surely be a pointless move by Williams, main reason Haas got rid of him, KMag came back after a year away, and blew him out !!! He just didn’t have what it takes.

I find it very difficult to understand that people like Toto keep pushing Mick who has nothing to show from his period at Haas..... except a ginormous repair bill....
Lando and Max had identical reaction times at the start, maybe to much right foot, unless like so many other things that’s computer controlled 🙁
Given that Max is still finishing 2nd & there's 70 points gap, right now it's a bit too optimistic for anybody to be think Lando can win the drivers championship, the math doesn't add up. But as for constructors champion it sure looks to be going to McLaren unless Checo can perform some miracle. And if McLaren keeps having the best car it'd be criminal to count out Piastri from winning some races.
Not sure Max will be able to consistently hold on to second places for much longer...
@F1Elvis Perhaps but Piastri is surely going to win some races if McLaren remains this strong throughout the season, the guy is a phenomenal driver, its just the bad pitstops that keeps ruining his races. And Max's biggest strength is consistency & so 70 pts still seems too much even for Lando. Nevertheless it's going to be an exciting watch to find out the final outcome.
F1 is at its best when max is throwing a tantrum and losing to his best friend should help 😂
This season is more defined by failure than success.
McLaren and Ferrari scooping up wins when the other fails. Red Bull losing Constructors due to Checko, and their failure to retain Newey. Merc just failing since 21.
A re-write of the breaking Regs and Redbull drop off in performance. As any NCIS fan will tell you Rule 39.
Yeah in my opinion RB, are not the team at the top now that independent breaking system has been discontinued.

Jos isn't Max's manager ... why he's still around and allowed in the Red Bull box is confusing to me. My dad doesn't come to work with me, and definitely doesn't discuss what happens with the staff or media.

Things will start to get dirty just watch how they bring Perez into play he’s going to be Redbulls blocker and will take Norris out if ordered, as it stands McLaren have the upper hand but they need to start getting both their guys on the podium and Mercedes and Ferrari ain’t to far behind so they could also come into play.

Unfortunately 80 % car, 20 % driver. Even midfielders lile Albon, Alonso, 0con, Tsunoda, Hulkenberg and even Bottas can win in that McClaren.

Max drove smart, he could be closer to lando at the end,but why should be as he wouldn't beat lando anyway. It's the same amount of points for second place if your gap is 22 seconds or 3 seconds at the end. But why overloading the engine as you will stay where you are anyway, why risking engine faliure and 10 place grid penalty at next races because of this?

Lando becoming champion is a long bow to draw. A couple of decent races does not a champion make…

@@F1Elvis I understand that but mathematically, Lando would have to win every race till the end of the season and Max would need a couple of real stinkers! I doubt that will happen. Next year might be different however.
Don’t the struggles of even the top top teams, indicate that the current regs are just too bloody complicated? It seems to make the races a forgone conclusion if any team has the less than perfect setup. If even these guys don’t understand what is happening, SURELY there needs to be something done.

lando wont win the title because mclaren told him to give the place back to Piastri. 7 points gone. I feel Lando needs Max to DNF in one of the next 3 races, whilst winning most races until end of season.
Max is in his last engine. This may come to play
