- An intimate and poignant view of the termination of the Highway of Heroes procession and repatriation that carries Canada's deceased soldiers home from the war in Afghanistan.
The motorcade destination is the Ontario Coroner's Office near the Bay/College intersection, in downtown Toronto. Personnel from Toronto Police Service, Toronto Fire, and EMS line the road, with neighborhood residents and bystanders among the crowd. It is tradition for the soldiers who accompany their comrades to greet the assembled crowds and walk the line of the service personnel.
Touching scenes of condolences are witnessed in this video, as the Chief of Toronto Police Service, Bill Blair, and former Chief of Canada's Defence Staff, Gen. Rick Hillier, are present for this repatriation.
I'v been on that ride and will always remember it . For my brother trooper Brian Good KIA Afghanistan Jan 7 2009 , and I know the feeling that goes through your heart at every corner at every bridge and thank you all.

Thanks for posting
and god bless
Thank you for taking the time to mark this moment, at the end of a fallen soldiers repatriation procession. The media often overlook this very intimate and emotional moment, for everyone involved. I am one of the Toronto Police Supervisors who coordinate this honour guard on Grenville Street. I have witnessed the return of far too many fallen soldiers, but I am honoured to have been a part of the repatriation of each of them on their return home.
No words can adequately describe the emotions stirred by watching this video!
Thank you.
Wow. Thank you. I saw them at the overpass near my house and was never overcome with such emotion. This does the same.
Unbelievable. The perspective and emotion shown here are not what we usually see when a fallen soldier returns.
Canadians are used to seeing highway overpasses and access ramps blocked with ambulances, fire trucks, police cruisers and ordinary citizens paying their respects. This is something different, and must be seen to be appreciated.
We will always remember your sacrifice.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
...Lest we forget.
@TrandomnesstwO and the route they take once they are off the 401 is called the "Route of Heroes" (it's the DVP, bloor street and bay street)
thank u for posting this vid....tragedy may they all R.I.P. and thank u for ur service
With heavy hearts we say goodbye ....
Correct -- for the section between Trenton and Toronto, it's still the '401' but additional signage at the side of the highway reminds people of its commemorative name.
So the 401 is now officially 'The Highway of Heroes'?
IMO, the construction work should have stopped as the the procession passed by.
