The ukulele skills you are associating with Portuguese ukulele players are very different to that of polynesian ukulele players. The playing styles vary enormously because polynesian ukulele skills and playing techniques are purely culturally based, whereas mainstream ukulele players go to music institutions to become globally recognized for their ukulele skills. The tahitian and cook island techniques of playing ukulele are very unique in comparison to the rest of the world, but you would not know because you also aren't familiar with the varying cook island and tahitian ukulele players and their skills. Search up "mahuta cook island ukulele". Hes my uncle and his ukulele skills are extraordinary .

Hawaiian ukulele skills are definitely more simple than that of cook island and tahitian players.
