Reginald was one of my favorite characters in American Dad. It’s such a shame that he just vanished and disappeared from the show after only 6 seasons 😢
This show has so many side characters, many of them we don’t see much from again. They have brought back Reginald but for brief jokes or Francine casually talking about him.
Sure, Regi and Klaus kind of have the same background being animals with a human mind, but they went into completely different directions with both characters so I personally believe it wasn't borig and that they could've given him more attention. Didn't really feel repetitive at all, also because of their different personalities
I think if they kept him as a CIA talking animal outside of the family dynamic could have worked. Like the What are you doing. That Stan bit in the helicopter was my character highlight for him. With the chaos of the CIA. I am sure keeping him around wouldn't feel to obscure
Yes, Koala Reginald was really a cool character, he was bright, stand-out and unpredictable, like Brian Lewis, Roger or Klaus Heissler. I think he deserves more screen time than he was actually given.
Ironically, it seems like they gave principle Lewis his unpredictable crazy qualities and pushed him to more of a foreground character after they pushed Reggie into the background it seems.
I understand Hayley and Jeff were kinda destined to be together since the pilot (especially since the real Jeff Fisher is good friends with Seth MacFarlane), but I really did like Hayley with Reggie. Their interactions were cute, and Reggie was pretty real compared to most other characters in the show, despite the fact he was a koala with the brain of a human.
Maybe they could've transitioned them from being in a weird dating/not dating thing to a totally platonic friendship. Hayley doesn't really have many friends. Ignoring the romantic and sexual undertones, their banter seemed like they genuinely enjoyed each other's company. It'd allow them to reuse a fan-favorite character more often, too.
I'd say that the problem was that the character clearly was meant as a one off gag, explaining a character who was just there for some reason with a backstory theme song. It feels like they weren't going to bring him back initially, but did. Even then, it feels like a byproduct of the writers wanting to distance themselves from the Jeff and Haley relationship before ultimately going back to it. And I think he would have made a good counterpoint to Klaus, being the hop and lovable animal dude to Klaus's either cynical former Nazi or the (funnier) uncool Dudebro loser he became. Compared to more current episodes, at least since the TBS seasons, Reggie just doesn't feel weird enough for the writers. Certainly they love writing for Rogu and Billy and I can't blame them, but I'd LOVE to see Reggie interact with either of them.
Tbf, klaus apparently is a mostly apparently considered an uncool dudebro loser to the family, as he has “his boys” and has often been portrayed as a lady’s man when they touch upon his life outside of the family on occasion. It’s kind of weird that he (much like Reggie now that I think about it) can casually interact with the public with no issue though, tbh.
@@forsociopoliticalstuff2629 Seems most of the outside world finds Klaus unappealing as well. When he brainwashed the entire town to like him, Francine snapped them out of it by playing his podcast to show everyone what a loser he is. Though I did like "The Pleasanting" where Klaus and Jeff were close friends enjoying pleasant afternoons. I also think Tuttle would hit it off with Klaus.
This show has a good grasp on creating interesting sevcondary characters. Removing Reginald when he could've been there for Hayley during Jeff's abduction would've been great.
I’m probably going to be the only one to say the lack of side characters make the world feel less lived in than in previous seasons. Like what happened to Francine’s friend Linda? She doesn’t even has a friendship with Greg anymore ever since Terry left. Steve’s friends (with the exception of Snot) disappeared and the show is making him a complete outcast. That milk episode, y’all know the one. There’s more townspeople with heavy lure in the show but they aren’t the same characters but just comes off as who can be used as a background character in a scene. The show could benefit from a time skip and reintroduction to people giving it a fresh start.
@@leejtam0914 okay so American dad is pulling a Family guy and taking people out off screen. Half of the people from the Cleveland show are dead in family guy.
Linda is dead, she wasn't very interesting. I do miss Terry and Reginald though. Buckle is also always funny. We do get more from Al Tuttle and Dr. Weitzman, who are usually funny.
@@sethwick8348 truth be told I was never a Tuttle fan. The only episode with him that I like is the tv episode and it’s simply because he bounces off of Stan well. Same with Buckle, great introduction then just became another own member, outside of Lore Buckle and Principle Lewis are pretty interchangeable. This show has a habit of doing that. I feel like the show could’ve explored Linda’s crush on Francine since it was mentioned in 2 out of 3 of her episodes even though we did find out later Francine doesn’t like women in that way when she tried with female Stan. Guess it was inevitable. But if they can take someone one note like Jeff and build him up to main character status then they should do it again.
This show has many hilarious side characters but sadly at some point writers just forgot about them and stopped exploring them. Now they only have Roger and his personas as a milkcow of the show
American Dad already stood on it's own! It's ana amazing show with entertaining plots. There are flaws of course with inconsistency and sometimes a bit randomish with the humor

I could see Reggie being the occasional Artie Ziff, threatening the Haley & Jeff marriage. There's still more stories they could get out of him. He could kind of be the series Sideshow Bob - once every season or two coming back for some banger episode. But at the same time, as someone who has never seen most of his episodes, I still have loved the show and don't exactly feel like anything is missing - Roger fills all the larger than life room in the show, and then some. But also, I like the idea of the show having more black characters (at least in consciousness), its pretty bare in that department besides Principal Lewis.
I love the dichotomy he brings to the table with Klaus. Klaus was a famous skier who devolved into the butt of a joke, but Reginald went from the pits of homelessness to being a well functioning member of society (and what seems to be a great CIA agent) with pure charisma. He honestly seems to be everything Klaus wishes he was.
Y'know, you're totally right, and an episode focusing on Klaus feeling like he's his rival would work great- I could see it playing out like Reginald just being all effortlessly cool and chill and down to earth around him and Klaus being a hilarious desperate vengeful loser, that could be a ton of fun! Also makes all the more sense, since Reginald's entire introduction is basically a punchline at Klaus's expense- that's why they're such similar characters in the first place. It just makes sense!
They cut out Reginald cause they dont want a second talking animal and cant think of what to write for him, but they'll gladly make us suffer with Rogu.
Nah, Rogu's fun. They don't overuse him, he's either an occasional throwaway gag or has a one-off episode here and there, he's not even really a full main character, they still keep him pretty secondary and out of the way of everyone else other than his focus episodes.
Thank you Lydia, for giving Reggie some love!❤ I dunno why American Dad dropped him so hard...especially when Jeff was in Space and Hailey was available!!!!
I find it odd that Roger didn't wear a disguise in front of Reginald's first appearance (the pool scene). I thought the Smith family would be executed if the CIA knew they were harbouring an alien? 😅😮

Not really? American Dad characters get so much character development and keep hold of more changes to the status quo than basically any other adult animated sitcom aside from maybe Rick and Morty? I liked Reggie and Hayley more than Hayley and Jeff. I know why they got them back together and officially made Jeff a main character. But Reggie does have so much chemistry with Hayley.
I'll assume the stuffed Reginald is the original body that was about to die, probably from an illness, and they switched him to a new body, still a Koala
I agree. The idea of one of Stan's mishandling of CIA tech ruining a mans life, causing him to be homeless, and then later FURTHER ruining/saving his life by "randomly" selecting some homeless guy to be the CIA's "guinea-Koala" not realizing he ruined the mans life. Then Reginald coming to terms with that and still helping Stan on a mission cus he needs the help and Reginald is the only one in the position of being able to help him but he does cus of haley or some shit.. It would be a fantastic tie in for the "Yeah, Stan is a jerk - but boiled down he's not a horrible person. Which is one of the premises of the show. (in his day-to day relations. I'm not touching the fact that working for the CIA automatically puts you a moral grey zone at best.) I think it would be a phenomenal episode. Lot of rambling sentences in there.
Well, Reggie did make a cameo when Roger became The Grinch. Plus, we don't see much of the other American Dad supporting cast like Sharri, Debbie, the Smith's Pakistan neighbors, and so on, as they pop up in non speaking cameos. I would like to see Reggie pop up on Family Guy either to become a guest star, a recuring character, or just a one off cameo joke. I can see the Griffins having Reggie as a "new" character, until he becomes the show's Scrappy Doo.
I get the feeling they realized that he was a more fun talking animal than all of the other talking animals, which didn't hurt American Dad but hurt the other shows. Don't forget, they are all basically from the same universe and by the same creator. I'm just surprised they never went the route of saying that Brian was someone who escaped from a CIA experiment where they put a human into a dog to explain why he doesn't act like any other dog for the longest time. Also if they didn't want him and Haley getting together, it would have been a second talking animal wanting to be with someone else's wife, unless the Cleveland show came out before Jeff and Haley got back together which would make it the third.
I think a big problem is that nowadays most people seem to only watch either show in clip format on UA-cam, which works for Family Guy because it’s all cutaway humor, but American dad doesn’t rely on cutaways and all the jokes are plot driven so it doesn’t work as well in clip format so less people watch that show or consider it to be as good as it is (i.e. Better than Family Guy. )
It would be great to have another Tearjerker episode where Stan and Reginald team up to defeat the evil clone of Tearjerker (which in this case would be Rogu).

I miss this little guy. He was so cute, and hilarious. One of my favorite characters from American Dad.
It took me way too long to realise that this is the same person behind the Simpsons Theory channel
I get that alot 😂
I'll assume the stuffed Reginald is the original body that was about to die, probably from an illness, and they switched him to a new body, still a Koala
The ears are obviously not the same. That was never him.
He’s the scrappy doo of American Dad
4:23 why does Reggie look like he’s dressed like the Nostalgia Critic? Lol
"Cheap weed and applesauce!"
Damn i loved him lol
Seth: “yeah no talking animals funnier than Brian, so no talking animals besides Claus” 😂
"Did we really need a koala bear whose mind was also swapped by the CIA?"
***YES***
I miss Reginald he cracked me up everytime😢
I still don't understand why Tuttle, a completely forgettable side character, was put in the center of an entire season. Like what was up with that?
Ofc i remember Reginald
Hes cute as a button!
Ah nah nah weh ah nah nah weh nah nah is my favorite Reginald line, had me laughing so hard I kept rewinding it the first time I watched it
Well, Reggie did make a cameo when Roger became The Grinch.
The Pakistani family died
@@KvngLeroy1 When did this happen?
@@PatrickMoore-yw6lu mentioned offhand in the new season
Hey Lydia, when do you plan on making the Arthur video?
that chlamydia joke goes to the point of Hayley thinking out loud "can fish get chlamydia?" in the episode where she give Klaus a haircut
Now that you mentioned him. Yeah, I do miss him. :')
I love your videos so much keep up the good work woman
Lydia, is there any chance you could do a video Terry?? I've always been so curious as to why he left the show
One of the original show runners of the show left and all his characters got retired. He voiced Terry.
Thank God I see this video , after fasting
Damn, that old voice and new voice are two different characters.
I can see from the comments it's an unpopular opinion but I didn't find Reginald very funny. Not suprised to hear they don't really use him anymore
I was beginning to think I was the only one who felt this way. 🤷🏾♂
The mind-swapping makes complete sense but a Koala having an _American_ accent I cannot.
Better than Family Guy. )
It would be great to have another Tearjerker episode where Stan and Reginald team up to defeat the evil clone of Tearjerker (which in this case would be Rogu).
debbie and reginald are the best "lets tease the return"
