In the 1980 film AIRPLANE!, Leslie Nielsen was one of a handful of serious actors brought in for the comedy. He told them he didn’t think he could do comedy and they advised him to deliver all of his lines as if he were in a serious film. He did … and the results were great. POLICE SQUAD was the next logical step :)
The TV show this was based on ("Police Squad") was cancelled because, and I quote from a TV exec, "It was too funny". You said it, they never miss a chance, it's crammed with jokes. TV execs didn't think a comedy in which the audience HAD to watch it was worth it. They believed people only wanted TV on in the background, and didn't want to pay attention to get the comedy. It's a shame, too, because I loved how they had guest stars on every week. They never got a line, either, they were killed in the intro while being announced.
Leslie Nielson was a dramatic actor prior to "Airplane!". The earliest movie I recall seeing him in is "Forbidden Planet" (1956), a seminal sci-fi work. His role in "Airplane!" is what caused the writers to work with him more, for both "Police Squad!" and "The Naked Gun" series. The sequel is nearly is as great as the first, but the third is only good.
Love The Naked Gun. So many jokes. I love the recurring gags like Frank constantly crashing his car, and the visual gags in the background of nearly every scene. The floating "chalk outline" gets me every time. :) Don't know if you have seen it already, but LOADED WEAPON is worth a watch for its spoofing of buddy cop film/tv genre. Samuel L Jackson doing a Danny Glover impression is gold.
Basically He was cast in Airplane as his serious doctor character from soap operas and this began his second life as the most hilarious bumbling comedic performer of the 80’s into 90’s
I highly recommend checking out "Top Secret!" from the Zucker-Abrahams-Zucker trinity if you haven't. Everyone ranks Airplane as their best, but I think Top Secret is their hidden masterpiece. Val Kilmer's first big role, and he kills it.
The girl student driver was in an all time classic teen movie from the 80s “The Last American Virgin”. She has one of the funniest parts of the whole movie in that one lol. Another one you should check out. Its like “Fast Times At Ridgemont High” or “American Pie” type movie.
The sequels are more of this, but in a good way, not a tired rehash way. It’s a fun time. It should come as no surprise that Weird Al is a longtime fan of Zucker, Abrahams, & Zucker. Of course, he would jump at a chance to be in this, even for just a cameo.
What was so funny about these movies when they came out is that actors like George Kennedy and Leslie Nielsen had also already done a bunch of dramatic work so when they came out with this silly stuff it was just so absurd! And still to this day it's completely absurd! Thanks Jimmy!
I've seen the movie at least a couple dozen times - on cable, my own DVD -- and nowadays I watch the UA-cam reactors watch it. . .and I STILL laugh. Thanks for a great twenty minutes. 😎👍
The sequel is one of the rare sequels that is just as good. You'd love it. The third one, not so much. It's better than a scary movie, but not up to the standard of the first two.
Since you made it to this franchise you should have “Dracula Dead and Loving It” on your list after these. Same deal. Same actor. Same comedy. Just him as a hilarious Dracula lmao.
Omg, someone finally got that they were eating pistachios in the car! Thanks, Jimmy! Lol

I think he hasn't seen Airplane too 😂

The show is excellent.
Personally, I prefer the show!
Sequel is worth it.
O.J. Killed it in this movie....but....that goes with out saying.
Finally someone recognizes Reggie Jackson!
The microscope bit with Frank's closed eye gets me every time even knowing it's coming 😊
Its Enrico Pollazo!!!!

Cheers to you being a fan of Columbo. Great reaction as always.
Airplane is must now !
I’ve seen tons of reactions to this & you’re the only one to not only recognize Reggie, but to call him by his nickname🫡
Tbf he's probably the only baseball fan (Yankees fan at that too) who's reacted to this.
Always a great pleasure to see a reactor laugh so many times at a movie I laugh at, too.
The “extend your middle finger” from the driving instructor never fails to make me laugh
It makes me snicker, but what makes ME laugh is him following up with. "Veeery good".. Positive reinforcement is always the trait of a good teacher.
they truly don't make movies like this anymore hahaha. what a classic. impossible to watch without having a big dumb smile on your face the whole time

I've seen probably 30 reactions to this film. You're the first person to know they were eating pistachios and not be confused by the pile of shells. 😄
That makes him the best imo
1000%!!!! 😂😂😂
Yeah I've noticed that we'll.
@@mt-cd4oy We'll what?! What will we do?! 😃
He’s absolutely right. Nobody remembers pink pistachio nut stains 😂
I love Leslie Nielson.
Dude just plays an idiot so well.
Anna Farris & Chris Evans also.

This!!
That movie is a work of mad genius.

It's never too early.
A Classic from the good ol' days of satire/parody comedies along with Hot Shots and Loaded Weapon. But Leslie Nielsen was always the greatest.
18 minutes is not enough to do justice on this.
Man now I want to see Jimmy's reaction to OJ vs The People, one of the burning questions of our time, did he do it?
I did wanna see that. Looks great
The sequels are more of this, but in a good way, not a tired rehash way. It’s a fun time.

"I'm sorry I can't hear you, don't fire the gun while you're talking...."

After the Succession finale killed me the other day, this had me chuckling again. Love how it's played straight and serious.
When he frisks the pitcher he only finds stuff the pitcher can use to cheat but nothing to kill the queen
One of my favorite movies and after all these years I just got the joke about Drebin's ex joining the male symphony lmao
Priscilla Presley was so naturally pretty back then. “Good Year?”
You need to see the Police Squad tv show (only one season and six episodes 😭 not fair because it was so good) Airplane, Dracula dead and loving it.
I've seen the movie at least a couple dozen times - on cable, my own DVD -- and nowadays I watch the UA-cam reactors watch it. . .and I STILL laugh. Thanks for a great twenty minutes. 😎👍
You get a thumbs up from me for recognizing Reggie Jackson, calling him Mr October and knowing that they were eating pistachios in the car.
Awesome reaction of my favorite The Naked Gun movie!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
Both sequels are hilarious
The sequel is fantastic. And 33 and a 1/3 is also good.
Love these movies
Awesome reaction to The Naked Gun. You and Leslie Nielsen are a match made in heaven.
Hope you react to the other Naked Gun movies.
Probably will.
this is silly fun watching it as a kid but so much more funny watching it as an adult ..
Everyone in this movie, like police squad and airplane before it, were told to act like it’s a serious film and not a comedy
The sequels are worth it. I like the first one the most but there’s some hilarious nonsense in the other two.
Awesome 😂❤

More jokes in the closing credits
Only 2nd person I ever saw to know it was Reggie.
Well done on pistachios joke. U would NOT BELIEVE how many reactors don’t understand what they are and say stupid things. Haha
The sequels are good
not my joke but...at least OJ can rest in peace knowing his wifes killer is dead.
No OJ jokes. You held back on us. 😛
😔
Nah, not too early, OJ deserves zero respect.
Theyre making a reboot w Liam Neeson and Pam Anderson. Makes me sick to my stomach even typing that shit out lol.
😂😂😂
18 minute reaction to a full movie I don't understand... I would enjoy more commentary and your reaction especially your laugh
The other movies are more funny
