The impeller that you made was very big as compared to motor it will decrease the efficiency .
IF your motor is of low speed and high power large impeller will work but if motor is of high speed and low power small impeller will be perfect.
I made a pump to pump water from well to tank , it pumps water to 2nd floor. When i first made that pump, i also made a big impeller but it was not able to pump water more than 10 feet then i reduced the size of impeller and it's power increased so much like a magic. I used a high speed sewing machine motor but you also made a nice pump keep it up...

You can get it from mixers, blenders and from every kitchen gadget what has moving parts but the motors can be diffrent and they maybe need a bit more juice than others :D
