Waited about a year for mine to come in (logistics/supply issues after COVID). The thing is amazing! Wireless is #2 feature for me, it is great! My number one feature without a doubt is the UI and easy for older guy like me to follow LOL. Over the last several years decided first layout would jump into DCC from the go. At least here in the US, majority use NCE or Digitrax. There are definitely two pronounced 'camps' on which to get and why between those two. Most of it in my opinion, comes down to what folks were comfortable with, had used before, in their clubs, etc. I didn't mind straying outside that beaten path. I just find those two popular brands very old school. Limited UI (I understand both are in various stages of upgrading). Need to memorize a bunch of key codes, function keys, etc, not my thing. I have test track setup programming/testing DCC locos. It is just intuitive, granted a *LOT* of features/icons to learn, but found it easy to pick up. So far no regrets, no issues, etc. Peace out!
I've been using the CabControl for a couple years. I too wanted the wifi, so that's why I chose it. I run all my Circuitrons off it too, using NCE Switch8s. My next project is to figure out how to do multiple switches to set a route using the Cab/throttle. BTW, you can toggle the auto reverse when you change directions. Nice for switching maneuvers. Enjoy the new toy!!
Nice overview. I also really like the wifi. Tip: the top right button is also programmable to any function along with the other side buttons. The track power can be turned on/off by just touching the 'STOP II'. The location is touch sensitive.
This is my favorite throttle/controller. I use it with the Ecos command station, works well. The only cons are battery capacity and micro USB. Battery capacity is low and after about 6-7 hours it has to be charged up. It can still be used while charging with micro USB, would be nice to have USB C.
I've just ordered one, ( to be shipped to the UK ) I have been using Signa trak with four handheld controllers, but the main drawback was only 4 functions on the hand controllers. This should sort that out for me.
I returned my ESU system and abandoned my plans to use it. I was unhappy with it for four reasons. 1. Short battery life of the controller. 2. Programming a decoder/locomotive was difficult using this system/controller. 3. I experienced a lot of difficulty simply turning the system on and getting it to initialize with my existing layout. 4. The on-screen icons were simply too small for my fingers. A stylus would be very helpful. I sold my ESU system and returned to NCE. While much more basic, the overall simplicity of the NCE system was right for me.
Thank you for demonstrating its use. Good to see the advancement in technology for our hobby.
