@cupwalker24.7 holy shit! 18k!!! That's nuts. The garage I used to work at did an engine job on an 04 and it was less than 10k with cost of a long block included. Had 140k on the new engine
@@jrehberg yeah a new long block is $15,000 , you would never install a new long block without new injectors , basically you need a new cylinder head couple more thousand . Labor , fluids , I'll make a video of my nightmare after it's all done .
I did a lot of research online about it and it’s normal for 5.9CR’s unless it hangs for more than a couple seconds and/or revs downs in steps then it has possible injector issues. Other than the rev hang, my truck runs great and gets decent mpg. Even with 320k+ miles. Lol.
@@jeremyclawges I just got a 06 as my first diesel, never heard the sound when it had a banks exhaust on it but as soon as i straight piped it, it sounds exactly like yours, glad its normal
Try a small muffler man. Mine had a 4in straight pipe now it has a 5in diamond eye with a small muffler and it sounds way better inside and out. It’s still super deep sounding but really no drone.
I pieced it together myself. Under $120 in materials including tip. Deleted the cat with 4” straight pipe, deleted the muffler with a “muffler delete pipe”, kept the stock tailpipe but trimmed it for the 7 inch tip. Since it’s a 04.5 HO, it came with 4 inch factory.
@@BSD_Productions ok I was wondering because I just had mine straight piped yesterday (11/27/2023) and I love the sound of yours so I thought I would ask I’m getting ready to change out the tip come payday
Cheap $30 tip from eBay. Lol. As for drone, it’s not bad at all. You can have a normal conversation with no problem. More than once I’ve caught myself going 90 without realizing it since it isn’t really loud cruising.
High Output. Bigger exhaust, different injectors, tuning, etc. About 20 more HP and 45 more TQ. It was a split year in 2004, so a HO is considered a 2004.5.
man i miss the one my dad let me drive in high school. shit is still music to my ears
Gotta love them Kentucky farm plates nice vid
16 and just straight piped my 2004 ram 3500 turbo diesel. Best decision I've ever made.

Haha True but the 5.9 Cummins isn’t unheard of to go a million miles or more.

Very nice! They’re damn good trucks!
I picked mine up for 15k with 100k miles but mine needs a paint job. Previous owner got a crappy paint job to match his company colors 🤢

Holy fuck!! This sounds mean !
Thanks! I love it, especially in town between buildings. Lol.
Any drone?
Sounds like a real straight piped Cummins in Texas what year is that badboy?
2004 in a half.
Any tune or cold air intake? What year?
No tune in the video. Stock intake with resonator removed and turbo silencer ring removed. 2004.5.
You know 3D tuning used this sound on their game
I did not know that lol
I see your rpms hang too like my 05 does after letting off. I was told its normal on these common rail engines. Rock on🤟
It is. They don’t bleed rail fast enough with no load
ever figure out exactly why your rpm’s hang when you give it a rev over 2 grand? i’m having the same issue, thinking it’s injector related

It is normal and I believe it has to do with a mixture of the heavy crank and something with tuning and fuel.
@@jeremyclawges I just got a 06 as my first diesel, never heard the sound when it had a banks exhaust on it but as soon as i straight piped it, it sounds exactly like yours, glad its normal
Relief valve on the fuel rail isn’t 100%. Isn’t allowing pressure bleed off as fast & the trucks hangs there in the rpms for a second.
I straight piped mine and it is so loud way over the top loud and has bad drone in the cab

What size straight pipe?
4 inch
Where did u buy your exhaust from could u post a link?

just cut the cat and muffler and put some 4in pipe on her. sounds the same. i don't know why people want to shell out $300+ on straight pipe exhaust
What pipe and muffler? Did you use
Bought a 4ft stainless straight 4in pipe, and then bought a muffler delete pipe specifically for the 3rd Gen.
